Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, nucleated red blood cells and erythrocyte abnormalities in canine systemic inflammatory response syndrome.

Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is the manifestation of the systemic response to an infectious or non-infectious disease. We evaluated the association between erythrocyte parameters, including nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs) and leukocyte ratios (NLR, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio; BLR, band neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio; BLNR, band neutrophil-to-neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio). A review of the medical records was conducted searching SIRS dogs among those admitted to our intensive care unit and a SIRS grading was obtained based on how many criteria were fulfilled. The Acute

[Systemic inflammatory response syndrome triggered by necrotizing cholecystitis after treatment of underlying low titer cold agglutinin disease].

In April 1996, a 77-year-old man initially presented with fever, rash and polyarthralgia, and was diagnosed as having low titer cold agglutinin disease with acute hemolytic anemia. The patient's condition and laboratory findings improved after administration of corticosteroid (prednisolone 60 mg). In June 1996, however, he developed acute cholecystitis and died due to sepsis, disseminated intravascular coagulation and multiple organ failure. During the course, the levels of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6 were correlated with the pathology, and the disease was diagnosed as sy

Stress caused by minimally invasive cardiac surgery versus conventional cardiac surgery: incidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the degree of stress in patients induced by minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) in comparison with that caused by conventional cardiac surgery. We did this by assessing the incidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). A total of 48 adult patients who underwent surgery for single valve disease were included in this study, 27 of whom underwent conventional surgery and 21 MICS. We evaluated the stress inflicted on the patients in these two groups by analyzing the duration and degree of SIRS and the level of C-reactive protein (CRP)

Zegocractin for acute pancreatitis with systemic inflammatory response syndrome: a randomized, controlled, dose-ranging, phase 2b trial.

BACKGROUND: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is without specific drug therapy. We conducted a phase 2b trial of the calcium release-activated calcium channel inhibitor zegocractin, previously found to accelerate recovery of food intake in AP, to determine dose-response, target population, endpoints, safety and tolerability in AP with systemic inflammatory response syndrome. METHODS: This double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, phase 2b trial enrolled adults (aged ≥18 years) with AP and systemic inflammatory response syndrome at 37 centres in the US and India. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1

Alterations of the host-lung microbiome metasystem in systemic inflammatory response syndrome is associated with secondary pneumonia.

Host-respiratory microbiome interplay is vital to lung homeostasis. Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is an intense alteration in host status that necessitates rapid microbiome adaptation to avoid respiratory complications. Using longitudinal multi-omic data from patients with SIRS, we confirm that the respiratory microbiome, blood metabolome, and immune cells form a dynamic metasystem and define a metacluster with distinct T/B cell trafficking, anaerobic bacteria, high tyrosine metabolism, and low fatty acid biosynthesis. This metacluster status can serve to classify the severity

The Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and Predictors of Infection and Mortality in 1068 Critically Ill Newborn Foals.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis has been defined in humans as the concurrent proven or suspected presence of microbial infection and the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Sepsis is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in neonatal foals. The clinical utility of using SIRS or its individual components to predict infection and mortality in critically ill foals is currently unknown. OBJECTIVES: Assess the ability of history and signalment, clinical findings, laboratory results, and SIRS-related indices to predict infection and mortality in critically ill foals. Incidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and patient outcome following transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair.

OBJECTIVES: Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is a common finding after cardiovascular interventions. Data on the incidence of SIRS and its impact on outcome in patients undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (MV-TEER) for mitral regurgitation (MR) is lacking. METHODS: From January 2013 to December 2020, 373 patients with moderate or severe MR undergoing MV-TEER were included. SIRS was defined as at least two of the following criteria within 48 h after the procedure: leucocyte count > 12.0 or < 4.0 × 109/l, respiratory rate > 20 breaths per minute or PaCO2 ≤ 4.

Severe mesenteric traction syndrome is associated with increased systemic inflammatory response, endothelial dysfunction, and major postoperative morbidity.

UNLABELLED: This study aimed to determine if mesenteric traction syndrome (MTS) triggers increased systemic inflammation and endothelial cell dysfunction. Patients developing severe MTS had pronounced early IL6 elevations followed by endothelial cell damage. Furthermore, these processes were associated with increased postoperative morbidity. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether mesenteric traction syndrome (MTS) leads to increased systemic inflammation and dysfunction of the glycocalyx and endothelial cell and whether this correlates with the degree of postoperative morbidity. INTRODUCTION: Sever

Intestinal barrier damage, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, and acute lung injury: A troublesome trio for acute pancreatitis.

Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), a serious inflammatory disease of the pancreas, can easily lead to systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndromes (MODS). Acute lung injury (ALI) is one of the most serious complications of SAP. However, the specific pathogenesis of SAP-associated ALI is not fully understood. Crosstalk and multi-mechanisms involving pancreatic necrosis, bacteremia, intestinal barrier failure, activation of inflammatory cascades and diffuse alveolar damage is the main reason for the unclear pathological mechanism of SAP-associated ALI. Systemic inflammatory response elicited by superantigen destabilizes T regulatory cells, rendering them ineffective during toxic shock syndrome.

Life-threatening infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, particularly the community-acquired methicillin-resistant strains of S. aureus, continue to pose serious problems. Greater virulence and increased pathogenicity of certain S. aureus strains are attributed to higher prevalence of exotoxins. Of these exotoxins, the superantigens (SAg) are likely most pathogenic because of their ability to rapidly and robustly activate the T cells even in extremely small quantities. Therefore, countering SAg-mediated T cell activation using T regulatory cells (Tregs) might be beneficial in diseases such
