Thrombocytopenia absent radius (TAR) syndrome is a rare form of hereditary thrombocytopenia associated with a bilateral radial aplasia. TAR syndrome is genetically defined by the combination of a microdeletion on chromosome 1 which includes the gene RBM8A, and a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the second RBM8A allele. INTRODUCTION: Thrombocytopenia with absent radii is a rare congenital defect with hypomegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia and bilateral radial aplasia that may have additional anomalies. We report the case of a girl baby with thrombocytopenia and absent radii syndrome and bilateral congenital cataract. This anomaly has not been previously reported in the children of a non- consanguineous marriage.

In California, black tar heroin (BTH) use among injection drug users (IDUs) has resulted in an increased number of cases of wound botulism due to Clostridium botulinum, tetanus due to Clostridium tetani, and necrotizing soft-tissue infections due to a variety of clostridia. Fifty patients having psoriasis were studied with a view to assess the efficacy of 'puvasol' (Oral psoralen with sun-rays exposure) alone and in combination with topical tar therapy and were placed in 2 groups, each group being consisted of 25 patients. The initial stimulation of DNA-synthesis after application of dithranol as single agent is completely inhibited by addition of tar. The autoradiographic analyse indicates that the good clinical effect of the new antipsoriatic therapy with TCSV may be due to suppression of dithranol-caused irritation by tar. Thrombocytopenia with absent radii (TAR) syndrome is a rare genetic condition causing absent radial bones and thrombocytopenia. Management is generally supportive although there may be a role for platelet-stimulating agents such as romiplostim.
