OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of "double-phase" technetium-99m-sestamibi scanning in the localization of abnormal parathyroid tissue in patients with hyperparathyroidism.
METHODS: We present a prospective review of patients with hyperparathyroidism seen at a university teaching hospital between June 1994 and May 1997. Twenty-four patients entered into the study underwent preoperative localization with double-phase technetium-99m-sestamibi. The nuclear medicine results were compared with the operative findings.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The authors present preliminary findings on the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension with technetium-99m-ethylenedicysteine (99mTc-EC).
METHODS: Thirty-nine patients referred to the nuclear medicine department with clinical evidence of renovascular hypertension were included in the study. Baseline and captopril scintigraphies were done on separate days after the injection of 185 MBq of 99mTc-EC. All patients had angiographic correlation and 9 patients were shown to have renal artery stenosis.
RESULTS: Quantitative analysis of the data showed no significant changes

The purpose of this study was to assess the value of parathyroid Thallium 201-Technetium 99m scintigraphy in 45 patients with hyperplasia or parathyroid adenomas with or without associated thyroid abnormalities. Technetium complexes of several hydroxycarboxylic acids are used for medical imaging. To determine the oxidation state of technetium in these agents, we studied the reduction of pertechnetate (Tc-99) in 0.1 M solutions of four hydroxycarboxylic acids, using polarography and amperometric titration with Sn(II). Tannic acid is a polyphenolic compound that could be labeled with technetium-99m. To produce about 90% yield of (99m)Tc-tannic acid in acidic media (pH), the conditions required were 150 μg tin chloride, 30 min reaction time, and 200 μg of the substrate. (99m)Tc-tannic was stable for 6 h. Oral biodistribution of (99m)Tc-tannic showed that it concentrated in the stomach ulcer to reach about 50% of the total injected dose at 1 h after orall administration. This concentration of (99m)Tc-tannic in stomach ulcer may be sufficient to radio-image the presence of ulcer in the stomach.
