The author is unaware of any studies that combine central slip tenotomy with a distal repair, using small transverse incisions at the proximal interphalangeal and distal interphalangeal joints, respectively, to repair chronic mallet fingers whose deformities exceed 36°. This article describes the technique in detail, as well as its indications, postoperative management, and complications. An illustrative review of a case series follows.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Lengthening of Achille's tendon is part of surgical program for ankle stiffness in equinus deformity. Usually this lengthening is done by opened surgery with all the well-knowned advantages in term of adjustment. We used a percutaneous method for Achille lengthening with a two stages tenotomy. The purpose of this study is to evaluate advantages, inconvenients and efficiency of the subcutaneous method versus the open method.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present a retrospective study of a 80 percutaneous lengthening of Achille's tendon in 78 patients done between August 85 an

BACKGROUND: Partial or incomplete osteotomy (IO) of the phalanx is recently described in the literature. However, the clinical outcome and the rate of complications when applied to lesser toe deformities (LTD) have been never addressed. This study aims to find out if the association of tenotomies to incomplete or partial phalanx osteotomies has a significant impact on the clinical outcomes, the occurrence of complications, and the recovery time after surgery.
METHODS: A retrospective review of two cohorts of cases operated in our institution for hallux abductus valgus (HAV) and associated LTD

Background. This study was designed to evaluate the function of the foot undergoing the procedure of percutaneous Achilles tenotomy (PAT) in case of clubfoot management in terms of gait analysis. Methods. Nineteen patients with unilateral clubfeet were retrospectively reviewed from our database from July 2012 to June 2016. The result in all the cases was rated as excellent according to the scale of International Clubfoot Study Group (ICSG). The affected sides were taken as Group CF and the contralateral sides as Group CL. Three-dimensional gait analysis was applied for the functional evaluatio

BACKGROUND: The superiority of tenotomy vs. tenodesis for surgery on lesions of the long head of the biceps brachii tendon is still under debate. Indeed, high-quality evidence is lacking, mainly because of methodological problems, such as retrospective design, population sample size or lack of patient randomization.
METHODS/DESIGN: The study will be a two-center, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial to compare patients treated with biceps tenotomy or tenodesis for lesions of the long head of the biceps brachii tendon over a 2-year follow-up period. The study participants will be 128 adu

We aimed to study the regeneration potential of tendo-achilles after percutaneous tenotomy in 34 clubfeet treated by Ponseti's technique. Clinical and MRI evaluation was done after 6 weeks and 6 months of tenotomy to assess the regeneration of the tendon. At the follow-up, Achilles tendon was palpated like a cord in all the feet. MRI study revealed continuity of the tendon in all cases at the end of 6 weeks and 6 months of the tenotomy. Thus, it could be concluded that tendo-achilles does regenerate following percutaneous tenotomy, used in the correction of clubfoot using Ponseti's technique.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic tendinosis of the common extensor tendon of the lateral elbow can be a difficult problem to treat. We report our experience with sonographically guided percutaneous needle tenotomy to relieve pain and improve function in patients with this condition.
METHODS: We performed sonographically guided percutaneous needle tenotomy on 58 consecutive patients who had persistent pain and disability resulting from common extensor tendinosis. Under a local anesthetic and sonographic guidance, a needle was advanced into the common extensor tendon, and the tip of the needle was used to re

From August 1989 to January 1995 we performed multiple percutaneous longitudinal tenotomies under local anesthetic on 52 middle- and long-distance runners with unilateral Achilles tendinitis or peritendinitis that had failed conservative treatment. Forty-eight patients were reviewed at an average of 22.1 months (SD, 6.5) after surgery. Results were rated as excellent in 25 patients, good in 12, fair in 7, and poor in 4. Four patients developed subcutaneous hematomas. One patient developed a superficial infection at one of the incision sites, which was managed by oral antibiotics with full reco

BACKGROUD: Lesions of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) are one of the most common pathologies in patients with a rotator cuff tear. Although various procedures have been shown to be effective for treating LHBT lesions during rotator cuff repair, no consensus has been reached regarding the most effective treatment. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of tenotomy vs subpectoral tenodesis of the LHBT in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
METHODS: The records of 135 patients who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with biceps tenotomy or subpectoral tenodesis for

BACKGROUND: The Ponseti method for treating congenital clubfoot requires Achilles tenotomy to be performed toward the end of serial casting. However, it remains unclear if Achilles tenotomy has a negative effect on clubfoot-associated calf-muscle atrophy. We therefore investigated this issue by ultrasonographic examination.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We studied 36 patients with congenital clubfoot who were treated with the Ponseti method and underwent Achilles tenotomy. Only unilateral cases were evaluated to enable comparison of the severity of atrophy and its changes over time between affected

BACKGROUND: Most patients with idiopathic clubfeet require a percutaneous tendoachilles tenotomy to correct residual equinus deformity. This procedure is typically performed with the child awake in an outpatient setting. Percutaneous tendoachilles tenotomy under general anesthesia offers the potential advantages of better pain control, the ability to perform the procedure in a more controlled manner, and the possibility of lessening the pain response of the infant. Potential disadvantages include concerns regarding the safety of general anesthesia in infants. The purpose of this study is to re

BACKGROUND: It is unknown whether subscapularis management technique has an influence on the outcomes and complications of stemless total shoulder arthroplasty. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to compare outcomes and complications between subscapularis tenotomy, peel, and lesser tuberosity osteotomy used during stemless shoulder arthroplasty.
METHODS: We reviewed 188 stemless anatomic total shoulder arthroplasties and compared clinical and functional outcomes between those performed through a subscapularis tenotomy (n = 68), subscapularis peel (n = 65), or lesser tuberosity osteotom

BACKGROUND: Optimal treatment of the diseased long head of the biceps (LHB) tendon during rotator cuff repair remains a topic of debate: tenotomy or tenodesis. A recent meta analysis revealed no difference in strength or functional outcome between treatments. The included studies varied in methodological quality, and only two were randomized controlled trials (RCTs). As strong evidence in favor of either tenotomy or tenodesis is still lacking, we designed this randomized controlled trial to compare functional outcomes after tenotomy and tenodesis when performed in adjunct to arthroscopic rotat
