Contralateral solitary testis metastasis antedating renal cell carcinoma: a case-report and review.

A 56-year-old Caucasian smoker male patient underwent right orchiectomy and spermatic cord resection for intrascrotal transilluminating mass. Histology findings suggested diagnosis of metastasis from Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC). After positive CT-scan for primary neoplasm, total left nephrectomy was accomplished. Patient referred to our institution and started interferon immunotherapy; nowadays, after 21 months is disease free and in good health. We have reviewed and summarized the international literature regarding testicular metastasis from renal cell carcinoma; this is the first case of hist

Primary Mucinous Borderline Tumor of the Testis: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Testicular mucinous borderline tumor is a rare primary testicular neoplasm with a generally favorable prognosis. Herein, we report a case diagnosed after high orchiectomy, with a brief literature review. CASE PRESENTATION: A 77-year-old man presented with discomfort in the left scrotum. Computed tomography revealed enlargement and calcification of the left testis and indicated a testicular tumor. High orchiectomy was performed, and pathological examination revealed a mucinous borderline tumor. Postoperative upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy showed no abnormal findings,

Ultrastructure of feminizing testicular Leydig cell tumors.

The ultrastructure of a feminizing testicular Leydig cell tumor was analytically compared with that of the five reported feminizing neoplasms and with that of the eight published masculinizing or hormonally inactive tumors. Certain observations were noteworthy but of uncertain significance. In the current case, nuclear outlines tended to be irregular, nuclear pores were relatively few, chromatin was often uniformly dispersed, and nucleoli were frequently multiple. Membranous whorls and "myelin figures" were common. Collectively, the nuclear aberrations were noted only in the two feminizing neo

Sonoelastography for Testicular Tumor Identification: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Diagnostic Test Accuracy.

The objective of this review was to summarize the applications of sonoelastography in testicular tumor identification and inquire about their test performances. Two authors independently searched English journal articles and full conference papers from CINAHL, Embase, IEEE Xplore®, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception and organized them into a PIRO (patient, index test, reference test, outcome) framework. Eleven studies (n = 11) were eligible for data synthesis, nine of which (n = 9) utilized strain elastography and two (n = 2) employed shear-wave elastography. Meta-analyses were

Primary testicular neuroendocrine tumor: Diagnostic challenges and WHO 2022 classification insights.

Primary testicular neuroendocrine tumors are exceedingly rare, comprising less than 1% of testicular neoplasms. Their nonspecific presentation and overlap with other testicular tumors make diagnosis challenging. We report the case of a 21-year-old male with a painless left testicular mass. Imaging revealed a hypervascular lesion with calcifications, while serum markers (alpha-fetoprotein, beta-human chorionic gonadotropin, and lactate dehydrogenase) were normal. Radical orchiectomy demonstrated a 3-cm well-circumscribed tumor composed of monotonous cells with "salt-and-pepper" chromatin and lo

Myoid gonadal stromal tumor of the testis-the novel subtype of testicular gonadal stromal tumors: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Sex cord gonadal stromal tumors compose less than 10% of all testicular neoplasms and consist of a variety of histological subtypes. In 2016, the World Health Organization introduced a novel subtype, the myoid gonadal stromal tumor, that consists of spindle-shaped cells with immunohistologic features of muscle cells. Only few cases have been reported to date. Due to its rarity and owing to its only recent introduction, the current knowledge about myoid gonadal stromal tumor is limited, and particularly, appropriate clinical management is still ill-defined. CASE PRESENTATION: A 47-

Epidemiology of testicular cancer: an overview.

Testicular cancer is a rare disease, accounting for 1.1% of all malignant neoplasms in Canadian males. Despite the low overall incidence of testicular cancer, it is the most common malignancy among young men. The incidence rate of testicular cancer has been increasing since the middle of the 20th century in many western countries. However, the etiology of testicular cancer is not well understood. A search of the peer-reviewed literature was conducted to identify important articles for review and inclusion in this overview of the epidemiology of testicular cancer. Most of the established risk f

Two Cases of Primary Testicular Lymphoma Presenting with Direct Spread along the Spermatic Cord and Gonadal Vessels.

Primary testicular lymphoma is a rare testicular neoplasm that mainly affects elderly patients, with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) being a known risk factor in the younger population. Approximately 20% of patients will have disseminated disease with extra-nodal involvement at clinical presentation. Rarely, direct spread along the spermatic cord and gonadal vessels can occur and has been described in the literature. We present two cases of this phenomenon where the primary testicular tumour has spread along the gonadal vein to its origin at the inferior vena cava.

Retroperitoneal metastatic germ cell tumor presenting as a psoas abscess: a diagnostic pitfall.

Most testicular neoplasms are germ cell tumors, the vast majority of which represent seminomas. Most seminomas present localized to the testis, whereas nonseminomatous germ cell tumors more often present with lymph node metastases. Psoas abscesses generally arise from a contiguous intra-abdominal or pelvic infectious process, an adjacent focus of osteomyelitis or septic emboli from distant infectious foci. In this study, the case of a 24-year-old man who presented with a right psoas mass presumptively diagnosed as an abscess secondary to fever and leukocytosis is presented. The patient had a h

Splenogonadal fusion in adults: presentation of three cases and review of the literature.

Splenogonadal fusion (SGF) is a rare congenital anomaly in boys and girls. It commonly presents as a testicular mass treated with an unnecessary orchiectomy. We present 3 cases of SGF diagnosed in adulthood and discuss the published literature focusing on several aspects of this rarity. These cases of SGF of both types presented with the usual complaints. In our first case, orchiectomy was performed since the left testis was hypoplastic and testicular neoplasm could not be ruled out. The testicles could be preserved in the latter 2 cases. The second case is the continuous-type SGF associated w

Nonseminomatous germ cell tumor arising in splenogonadal fusion.

Splenogonadal fusion is a rare congenital malformation in which the spleen is abnormally connected to the gonads or to the mesonephric derivatives. A few more than 150 cases have been described in the world literature. We report an additional case of splenogonadal fusion. A nonseminomatous germ cell tumor was found in the testicle involved in this splenogonadal fusion. To our knowledge, this is the third reported case of a testicular neoplasm associated with splenogonadal fusion and the first reported case of intra-abdominal nonseminomatous germ cell testicular tumor arising in this rare anoma

A Rare Case of Ipsilateral Scrotal Recurrence of Testicular Cancer After Radical Orchidectomy.

A lump in the testicle, painful or painless, could represent testicular cancer. Testicular cancer can be subdivided into germ-cell testicular cancer and sex cord-stromal tumors. A majority of testicular neoplasms are germ cell tumors (GCTs). GCTs are broadly divided into seminomatous and non-seminomatous germ cell tumors (NSGCTs) due to differences in natural history and treatment. Removal of the testis, also known as a radical orchidectomy, is often offered as part of the treatment for testicular cancer, which may be followed by additional medical treatment. It is not very common to have a re

Incidence and Survival of Testicular Cancers in a Province in Northern Italy and Their Association with Second Tumors.

This study investigated the incidence, mortality, and 5-year survival rates of testicular cancers diagnosed in a northern Italian province, which were eventually associated with previous or subsequent extratesticular neoplasms. Cases from 1996 to 2020 were examined by age and histotype (seminoma vs. non-seminoma). The standardized incidence rate was calculated using the European population, and the annual percent change (APC) was reported. The five-year relative survival was estimated using the Pohar Perme method. The association with the second neoplasm was also evaluated. In our study, 385 p

A deep learning framework for histopathological classification of canine testicular tumours.

Testicular neoplasms are common in dogs, and their histopathological classification may be challenging in selected cases, particularly when morphological patterns overlap, with potential implications for diagnostic consistency and case management. In this study, we propose an artificial intelligence (AI)-based computational pathology approach for the automatic classification of the three main canine testicular neoplasms (Seminoma, Leydig cell tumour, and Sertoli cell tumour) from digitised haematoxylin and eosin-stained Whole-Slide Images (WSIs). To this end, 200 histological WSIs from 200 mal

Organ-sparing surgery for large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumour in a patient with Carney complex.

Carney complex is a rare genetic disease characterised by a complex of myxomas, spotty pigmentation and endocrine overactivity. At diagnosis, about one-third of male patients presents with testicular tumours, namely large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumours, which are often multicentric and/or bilateral and have a low malignant potential. Although radical orchiectomy is the gold standard for the treatment of testicular neoplasms, a conservative approach with partial orchiectomy or tumourectomy may be the best treatment option for these patients, allowing the preservation of endocrine function

Primary carcinoid tumor of the bilateral testis associated with carcinoid syndrome.

Carcinoid tumors derived from neuroendocrine cells can release serotonin and other vasoactive substances into the systemic circulation, resulting in carcinoid syndrome. Testicular carcinoid, a rare disease accounting for less than 1% of all testicular neoplasms, rarely manifests symptoms of carcinoid syndrome. We describe a case of carcinoid syndrome arising from a primary testicular carcinoid tumor. A 21-year-old male patient presented with facial flushing and diarrhea for 5 years. He had an enlarged left testis and a 1-cm, ill-defined, hard, non-tender mass in his right testis. His 24 h urin

Indium-111 labelled monoclonal antibody to placental alkaline phosphatase in in the detection of neoplasms of testis, ovary, and cervix.

A monoclonal antibody (H17E2) against placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) and testicular placental-like alkaline phosphatase was labelled with indium-111 and used in radioimmunoscintigraphy of 15 patients known or suspected to have germ-cell carcinoma of the testis or carcinoma of the ovary or cervix. Good images of neoplastic lesions were obtained in most patients with active disease. In 1 patient with testicular teratoma and elevated human chorionic gonadotropin who had a normal computed tomography scan, the labelled antibody located microscopic disease in a lymph node, which was then remo

Adenomatoid tumor in a young male case report.

Adenomatoid tumors are benign para-testicular tumors and account for about 30% of all paratesticular neoplasms in males. The most common presentation is scrotal swelling between the third and fifth decades. We reported an epididymal adenomatoid tumor in a 28-year-old patient.

Testicular microlithiasis in a clinically healthy cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis).

The present article describes an occurrence of testicular microlithiasis in a cynomolgus monkey from a routine regulatory toxicology study. The monkey was from a negative control group. Microscopically, the lesion was characterized by multiple extracellular mineralized calculi within seminiferous tubular epithelia of both testes without any tissue reaction or abnormal condition such as cryptorchidism, testicular neoplasm, or hypogonadism. The present case is remarkable in that there is a paucity of reports on spontaneous testicular microlithiasis in nonhuman primates. It is hoped that this cas
