Thermal Conductive Encapsulation Enables Stable High-Power Perovskite-Converted Light-Emitting Diodes.

Significant progress has been achieved on perovskite nanocrystal (PNC)-converted light-emitting diodes (PcLEDs) with the development of surface encapsulations. However, achieving bright and long-living devices remains a challenge because the thermal isolation structure of the air barriers exacerbates heat accumulation inside PcLEDs. Here, we proposed a thermal conductive encapsulation for PNCs by embedding CsPbBr3 PNCs in layer-by-layer assembled boron nitride (BN) nanoplatelets through SiO2 crosslinking. This structure effectively suppresses the heat accumulation on PNCs and provides excellen

High thermal conductive and photothermal phase change material microcapsules via cellulose nanocrystal stabilized Pickering emulsion for solar harvesting and thermal energy storage.

Phase change materials (PCMs) are promising for thermal energy storage due to their high latent enthalpy and constant phase change temperature. However, organic PCMs suffer from leaking, low thermal conductivity, and flammability. Herein, high thermal conductivity, photothermal and flame-proof docosane microcapsules with melamine-formaldehyde (MF) and polypyrrole (PPy) (C22-CMFP) were reported with cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) stabilized Pickering emulsion droplets as templates through in-situ polymerization. CNCs showed outstanding C22 Pickering emulsifying ability with the presence of NaCl an

A multiscale modelling study on the sense and nonsense of thermal conductivity enhancement of liquid chromatography packings and other potential solutions for viscous heating effects.

We report on a numerical study of the thermal conductivity and temperature distribution in analytical packed bed and monolithic HPLC columns to assess the feasibility of a number of potential solutions to the viscous heating problem that would normally impede high efficiency separations when moving to extreme operating pressures (e.g., 2500 bar). Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations were employed to study heat transfer on three hierarchical levels of the column: meso‑pore level, through-pore level and column level. At the first level, realistic values were determined for the conductiv

Improvement of thermoelectric performance of copper-deficient compounds Cu2.5+δ In4.5Te8 (δ = 0-0.15) due to a degenerate impurity band and ultralow lattice thermal conductivity.

Cu-In-Te ternary chalcogenides have unique crystal and band structures; hence they have received much attention in thermoelectrics. In this work we have observed an enhancement in Hall carrier concentration (n H) and ultralow lattice thermal conductivity (κ L) when Cu was added to ternary Cu2.5+δ In4.5Te8 (δ = 0-0.15) compounds. The enhancement in n H is attributed to a degenerate impurity band at the G point in the valence band maximum (VBM), while the extremely low κ L results from the increased lattice disorder. We thus obtained the minimum κ L value of only 0.23 W K-1 m-1 in the sample at

Machine Learning for Performance Prediction and Optimization of Polymer Composites: Unveiling the Dominant Role of Thermally Conductive Pathways.

Polymer composites with multifiller systems have gained significant attention due to their potential to enhance both thermal conductivity (TC) and mechanical properties. However, traditional methods for predicting composite properties often struggle to account for the complex effects of filler distribution and thermally conductive pathways formation, particularly at varying filler volume fractions. In this study, we developed a novel dense sphere-packing algorithm to construct geometric models of multifiller composites, generating a database of 1024 representative volume element (RVE) models u

Thermally conductive under-liquid adhesives via the synergistic effect of intrinsic interfacial toughness and mechanical dissipation.

An under-liquid adhesive combining strong adhesion and enhanced thermal conductivity is crucial for applications like data center liquid cooling, underwater sensors, and batteries. However, weak and unstable adhesion in an under-liquid environment greatly limits thermal stability and reliability. To address this challenge, we report a strategy to achieve strong adhesion of a polydimethylsiloxane/aluminum adhesive through integrating tough dissipative composite matrices and strong interfacial linkages. The polydimethylsiloxane/aluminum adhesive shows excellent adhesion properties (an adhesion s

A Thermally-Processable Conductive Supramolecular Metallacage Decorated with Polyethylene Glycol Chains for Self-Healable and Recyclable Electronics.

Supramolecular coordination complexes (SCCs) possess precise molecular architectures attractive for catalysis, sensing, and nanomedicine, yet their thermal processing into bulk materials is severely hindered by strong π-π stacking interactions, typically restricting them to solution, gel, or particulate forms. Herein, this study reports a thermally-processable metallacage TPMc, decorated with six polyethylene glycol chains (PEG) that overcome this fundamental limitation. PEG chains act as a "molecular lubricant" that disrupts intermolecular forces and expands intermolecular distances, endowing

Cooperative Repair for Laser-Induced Graphene via Modified Poly-phenylamine and Fe2+ for Thermal-Conductive Gels.

Laser-induced graphene (LIG) has great potential for multiple applications because of its large specific surface area, facile fabrication process, and tunable properties. However, abundant lattice defects severely degrade its conductivity. Herein, from an innovative perspective of precursor design, the poly-phenylamines (P-PAs) with improved solubility and strong light absorption were synthesized, which act as an intercalated polymer for graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets. On this basis, the composite precursors show remarkably enhanced photothermal conversion capability and a compact stacked stru

Assembly of a conductive antimony tin oxide (ATO) polyethersulfone (PES) nano composite thermal insulation film.

Organic-inorganic nano-composite films have attracted considerable attention due to their extraordinary properties, performance and applications. Herein an antimony tin oxide (ATO) polyethersulfone (PES) nano-composite conductive film has been assembled. First, the high conductivity ATO nanoparticles were synthesized in the solid state and fully characterized, focusing on their conductive properties. Next, oleic acid (OA) was selected as a dispersion agent, and the minimum resistance (R) is found at an OA/ATO weight ratio at 0.5 in an NMP solution. Third, the ATO-PES nano-composite films were

Self-Adaptive Rapid Thermal Conductive Fabrics Based on Hygroscopic Shrinkage Response for Personal Cooling and Drying.

Advanced fabrics with thermal wet management capability as low energy consumption media contribute to personal cooling and drying. Nevertheless, it remains a great challenge to obtain intelligent fabrics with adjustable thermal conductivity (TC) capable of bridging the supply and demand between human body temperature and self-adaptive thermal conduction. Herein, we report hygroscopic-shrinkage nanofiber-based fabrics with excellent moisture sensitivity and significant volume shrinkage, which benefits the construction of high-density thermal conductive pathways by absorbing sweat, with a maximu

Penumbral cooling in ischemic stroke with intraarterial, intravenous or active conductive head cooling: A thermal modeling study.

In ischemic stroke, selectively cooling the ischemic penumbra might lead to neuroprotection while avoiding systemic complications. Because penumbral tissue has reduced cerebral blood flow and in vivo brain temperature measurement remains challenging, the effect of different methods of therapeutic hypothermia on penumbral temperature are unknown. We used the COMSOL Multiphysics® software to model a range of cases of therapeutic hypothermia in ischemic stroke. Four ischemic stroke models were developed with ischemic core and/or penumbra volumes between 33-300 mL. Four experiments were performed

Substitution of Yor1p NBD1 residues improves the thermal stability of Human Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator.

The Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) is a plasma membrane chloride channel protein that regulates vertebrate fluid homeostasis. The inefficiency of wild type human CFTR protein folding/trafficking is exacerbated by genetic mutations that can cause protein misfolding in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and subsequent degradation. This project investigates small changes in protein sequence that can alter the thermal stability of the large multi-domain CFTR protein. We target a conserved 70-residue α-subdomain located in the first nucleotide-binding domain that hosts the c

Heat transfer within hydrodissection fluids: An analysis of thermal conduction and convection using liquid and gel materials.

Interventional oncology procedures such as thermal ablation are becoming widely used for many tumours in the liver, kidney and lung. Thermal ablation refers to the focal destruction of tissue by generating cytotoxic temperatures in the treatment zone. Hydrodissection - separating tissues with fluids - protects healthy tissues adjacent to the ablation treatment zone to improve procedural safety, and facilitate more aggressive power application or applicator placement. However, fluids such as normal saline and 5% dextrose in water (D5W) can migrate into the peritoneum, reducing their protective

Comparative Study of Carbon Nanoparticles and Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube for Light-Heat Conversion and Thermal Conductivity Enhancement of the Multifunctional PEG/Diatomite Composite Phase Change Material.

We report two novel 3-dimension hierarchical diatomite struts by filling the diatomite pores with a small amount of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNs) and carbon nanoparticles (CNPs). The emerging supporting scaffolds are then applied to a prepare polyethylene glycol (PEG)-infiltrated composite phase change material to seek an efficient but easy way to improve the thermal conductivity and synchronously accomplish the light-thermal conversion on the one hand. On the other hand, the mechanism of the microstructure-performance relationship of these composites has also been briefly presented a

Development of Electrically Conductive Thermosetting Resin Composites through Optimizing the Thermal Doping of Polyaniline and Radical Polymerization Temperature.

This work developed an electrically conductive thermosetting resin composite that transitioned from a liquid to solid without using solvents in response to an increase in temperature. This material has applications as a matrix for carbon fiber reinforced plastics. The composite comprised polyaniline (PANI) together with dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DBSA) as a liquid dopant in addition to a radical polymerization system made of triethylene glycol dimethacrylate with a peroxide initiator. In this system, micron-sized non-conductive PANI particles combined with DBSA were dispersed in the form o

High-strength and thermally conductive bacterial cellulose-based composites via the synergy of aligned nanosheets and interfacial interactions.

Polymer-based thermally conductive composites hold great promise for thermal management in miniaturized and high-power-density electronics. However, their practical performance remains limited by discontinuous heat-transport pathways arising from the poor orientation of thermally conductive nanofillers and weak polymer-filler interfacial interactions. Here, we develop an in situ biosynthesis strategy to fabricate high-strength and thermally conductive bacterial cellulose-based nanocomposites by integrating modified nanosheets into the bacterial cellulose growth process.
