Infrared thermography is gaining relevance in breast cancer assessment. For this purpose, breast segmentation in thermograms is an important task for performing automatic image analysis and detecting possible temperature changes that indicate the presence of malignancy. The correlation between peripheral pressures and skin temperatures was studied by encapsulated liquid crystal (ELC) plates in 66 patients with peripheral arterial disease. The study was also performed to evaluate the correlation between symptoms and temperature in four symptomatic groups of patients (with claudication, rest pain, ischemic ulcerations or gangrene and chronic ulcerations in diabetic patients). The results of the use of a new contact scrotal thermographic instrument in 112 patients in a fertility clinic are presented. Animal studies comparing accuracy to Thermistor probe measurements show strong positive correlation. This modality is useful for evaluation of patients with persistently abnormal semen analyses after a varicocele ligation to determine which patients might benefit from invasive retrograde venography to detect persistent venous trunks. Patients with a questionable varicocele or "subclinical" varicocele comprise the group that benefits most from this diagnostic instrument.

The authors describe the usage of thermovisual investigation for diagnostic and treatment control purposes in patients with the temporomandibular joint pathology. In chronic arthritis exacerbations, traumatic arthritis and arthroses the joint thermographic images are different. Thermometry was performed at distinct points of parotidmusticulatory, submandibular and cervical regions. Normal and pathological thermal gradients were found between symmetrical facial sites.

The thermographic method of diagnosis was used in examination of 201 patients with different surgical diseases of the thyroid. The correct thermographic diagnosis was made in 59 of 66 patients with thyroid carcinoma. Pseudopositive results took place in 14 of 87 patients with benign diseases of the thyroid.
