Determination of Thymol in Commercial Formulation, Essential Oils, Traditional, and Ultrasound-Based Extracts of Thymus vulgaris and Origanum vulgare Using a Greener HPTLC Approach.

In the literature, greener analytical approaches for determining thymol in its commercial formulations, plant-based phytopharmaceuticals, and biological fluids are scarce. As a result, the goal of this study is to develop and validate a normal-phase "high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC)" method for determining thymol in commercial formulations, essential oils, traditional extracts (TE), and ultrasound-based extracts (UBE) of Thymus vulgaris and Origanum vulgare obtained from various geographical regions. The greener mobile phase for thymol analysis was a binary combination of cyc

Essential Oils of Lamiaceae Family Plants as Antifungals.

The incidence of fungal infections has been steadily increasing in recent years. Systemic mycoses are characterized by the highest mortality. At the same time, the frequency of infections caused by drug-resistant strains and new pathogens e.g., Candida auris increases. An alternative to medicines may be essential oils, which can have a broad antimicrobial spectrum. Rich in the essential oils are plants from the Lamiaceae family. In this review are presented antifungal activities of essential oils from 72 Lamiaceae plants. More than half of these have good activity (minimum inhibitory concentra

Encapsulation of Tunisian thyme essential oil in O/W nanoemulsions: Application for meat preservation.

This study aims to optimize the preparation of thyme essential oil nanoemulsion using a ternary mixture design based on the following three components: chitosan, gum Arabic and median-chain triacyglycerols (MCT). The results showed that the formulation which contained 40% chitosan, 40% gum Arabicand 20% of MCT led to a stable nanoemulsion within 30 days of storage at 4 °C. Indeed, the observed mean diameter (d[4,3]) and the polydispersity index (PDI) are the lowest with a ζ-potential value greater than +30 mV. Moreover, the amount of thyme essential oil dissolved in MCT was optimized and the 2

The effect of induced polyploidy on phytochemistry, cellular organelles and the expression of genes involved in thymol and carvacrol biosynthetic pathway in thyme (Thymus vulgaris).

Induced polyploidy usually results in larger vegetative and reproductive plant organs. In order to study the effect of chromosome doubling on Thymus vulgaris, three levels of colchicine concentration including 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5% (w/v) were applied for 6, 12 and 24 hours on apical meristem of 2- and 4-leaf seedlings. Ploidy level was evaluated by flow cytometry and microscopic chromosome counting. Chemical composition of essential oils extracted by hydro-distillation was analyzed by gas Chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and gas Chromatography (GC). The application of 0.3% colchicine at 4-

Reducing acrylamide in bread with plant additives: a systematic review.

Reducing acrylamide (AA) formation in thermally processed foods, particularly bread, is a major food safety concern. Plant-based additives, including powders and extracts, offer a promising natural strategy for AA mitigation due to their bioactive compounds, such as polyphenols and flavonoids, which can scavenge reactive intermediates, modulate Maillard reactions, and inhibit lipid oxidation. This study systematically evaluated the effects of various plant powders and extracts, including green tea, rosemary, turmeric, buckwheat, and traditional spices, on AA formation in bread. Based on report

Essential Oils for Managing Anthracnose in Mango (Mangifera indica): Laboratory Results Do Not Translate into Field Efficacy.

Essential oil-based products with broad plant disease control claims are commercially available and may be a practical alternative to copper fungicides for crop protection in organic mango orchards. We evaluated the disease control efficacy and crop safety of thyme oil, savory oil, and tree tea oil through replicated in vitro, in vivo (detached leaf and potted trees), and field assays. Three Colletotrichum species associated with mango anthracnose were tested in vitro, whereas only C. siamense was used for in vivo assays. Within the range of concentrations tested in vitro (62.5 to 2,000 μl act

Protective effects of Lavandula stoechas and Thymus numidicus essential oils against deltamethrin-induced hematological and biochemical toxicity in female rabbits.

Recent studies have shown that essential oils (EOs) extracted from medicinal and aromatic plants have herbicidal and/or insecticidal properties, helping to mitigate the toxicity experienced by living organisms exposed to pesticides. Moreover, the primary compounds isolated from these EOs also have the potential to reduce pesticide-induced damage. The present work aimed to evaluate the protective effects of Thymus numidicus (TNEO) and Lavandula stoechas (LSEO) against Deltamethrin-induced toxicity in female rabbits. Essential oil and plant extract of oregano as agents influencing the virulence factors of Candida albicans.

Candida albicans, a polymorphic yeast, is a physiological component of the human and animal commensal microbiome. It is an etiological factor of candidiasis, which is treated by azole antifungals. Growing resistance to azoles is a reason to look for other alternative treatment options. The pharmacotherapeutic use of plant extracts and essential oils has become increasingly important. In our experiment, C. albicans showed susceptibility to four observed plant extracts and essential oils from peppermint ( Mentha piperita), thyme ( Thymus vulgaris), sage ( Salvia officinalis), and oregano ( Origa
