Radicular cyst in deciduous maxillary molars: a rarity.

Radicular cyst arising from deciduous teeth is exceedingly rare accounting for <1% of all radicular cysts. A total of 122 cases have been reported to date in the English language literature. We present a rare case of a radicular cyst associated with a decayed deciduous maxillary molar tooth without any history of prior pulp therapy. Our aim is to emphasize the recognition of inflammatory radicular lesions associated with deciduous teeth which may adversely impact underlying permanent successor.

Age estimation in small children: reference values based on counts of deciduous teeth in Finns.

The eruption of teeth in the mouth is suitable for age estimations during the period when teeth are actively emerging, in the deciduous dentition phase approximately from the age of 6 months to 2.5 years. Estimations of age can be performed simply by counting the number of teeth in the mouth. Reliability of the estimates depends on the reference data available and each population group should preferably have its own standards. In the present study timing of eruption of successive deciduous teeth was studied longitudinally in 129 Finns. The dates of clinical eruption of deciduous teeth were rec

Morphometric, densitometric and mechanical properties of mandibular deciduous teeth in 5-month-old Polish Merino sheep.

BACKGROUND: Caries, enamel hypoplasia, molar incisor hipomineralization, amylogenesis imperfecta, dentine dysplasia, hypophosphatasia and other dental disorders lead to tooth mineralization disturbances and structural abnormalities, decreasing masticatory organ functions. Dental disorders in sheep can lead to premature slaughter before they have attained final stage of their reproductive life and induce economic loss due to high flock replacement costs. Growth rate, health status and meat quality of sheep depends on tooth properties and quality determining in large extent efficiency of the mas

Ectopic eruption of a permanent mandibular tooth in a miniature horse: case report.

Developmental and eruption abnormalities are common and can result in progressive dental diseases. Ectopic eruption of the affected tooth may be the result of these processes. This study aims to report the occurrence of a permanent mandibular tooth in a horizontal position, with retention of the corresponding deciduous tooth, in a miniature horse. A 2-year-old female miniature horse was admitted to the veterinary hospital with a hard swelling on the left mandibular ramus, which had been growing continuously for three months. After a complete evaluation, it was concluded that the swelling was t

Union between deciduous and permanent as intrusive luxation sequelae: A case report.

Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) are common in children due learning to walk and lack of balance that leads to falls. Luxation is the trauma that occurs most frequently in the deciduous, being that the intrusive and the avulsive are the ones that cause more damage to the permanent successors. The potential to cause disturbances to the developing permanent germ is high due to anatomical proximity and depends on age, direction of intrusion, severity and treatment. The consequences to the permanent range from hypocalcifications of enamel to retention of the permanent germ. In this case, the develo

[An odontological study on Down's syndrome. Part 3: Dental caries of the deciduous teeth].

The dental caries experience of a sample of 97 children with Down's syndrome who had deciduous dentition was contrasted with that of 57 non affected healthy children. The children with Down's syndrome had a caries experience less than one-third that of the control. However between the two groups, there was no difference in the relative caries pattern between occlusal, surficial and proximal tooth caries. We investigated the relationship between two factors, the delayed eruption pattern and any other environmental factors (tooth bursting, sugar control, nocturnal bottle feeding and caries activ

[Topesthesia and the tooth development].

The present study was so designed to evaluate the change of topesthesia based on the degree of resorption of deciduous teeth and the grade of root formation of permanent teeth. A total 12315 teeth (6140 deciduous teeth and 6175 permanent teeth) from 311 boys and 364 girls, whose ages ranged from 3.9 to 17.2 years (average 8.3 years) were examined. After taking dental X-rays, 20 g of pressure was applied on the axially direction on each tooth, and then the child was requested with his index finger to identify which tooth was perceived to be pressed. Effect of Down syndrome on the dimensions of dental crowns and tissues.

Abnormal growth in Down syndrome (DS) is reflected by variable reduction in size and simplification in form of many physical traits. This study aimed to compare the thickness of enamel and dentine in deciduous and permanent mandibular incisor teeth between DS and non-DS individuals and to clarify how these tissues contribute to altered tooth size in DS. Sample groups comprised 61 mandibular incisors (29 permanent and 32 deciduous) from DS individuals and 55 mandibular incisors (29 permanent and 26 deciduous) from non-DS individuals. Maximum mesiodistal and labiolingual crown dimensions were me

Tooth anomalies associated with failure of eruption of first and second permanent molars.

The occurrence of tooth anomalies in association with failure of the first and second molars to erupt was assessed in a sample of 1520 nonsyndromic subjects with uncrowded dental arches (mean age, 14 years 4 months) and compared with the prevalence rate calculated in a matched control group of 1000 subjects. The tooth anomalies examined included infraocclusion of deciduous molars, palatal displacement of maxillary canines, rotation of maxillary lateral incisors, aplasia of second premolars, and small size of maxillary lateral incisors. Associations among arrested eruption of first and second p

Evaluation of the impact of fluoride in drinking water and tea on the enamel of deciduous and permanent teeth.

BACKGROUND: Systemic fluoride intake is predominantly derived from drinking water and tea. It's been noted that water and tea containing fluoride, within the boundaries set by the World Health Organization, can lessen the prevalence of dental caries. A review of the literature did not uncover any study that has examined the impact of fluoride in bottled drinking water and tea on enamel of deciduous and permanent teeth. Thus, we assessed the effects of fluoride present in seven different brands of bottled water from distinct geographical regions of Turkey, and a type of tea produced and package

Association between breastfeeding and eruption of the first tooth in preschool children in Nigeria.

AIM: This study specifically examines the effect of the form and duration of breastfeeding on the timing of eruption of the first tooth in Nigerian children STUDY DESIGN: The study included 398 children aged 6 months to 71 months. The mothers were asked to provide information on the duration and form of breastfeeding, and the age of eruption of the first deciduous teeth. The socioeconomic status (SES) of the child was calculated using the mother's level of education and the father's occupation. Intraoral examination was conducted to assess the teeth present and dentition status of the child.

Orthodontic movement in deciduous teeth.

Deciduous teeth exfoliate as a result of apoptosis induced by cementoblasts, a process that reveals the mineralized portion of the root while attracting clasts. Root resorption in deciduous teeth is slow due to lack of mediators necessary to speed it up; however, it accelerates and spreads in one single direction whenever a permanent tooth pericoronal follicle, rich in epithelial growth factor (EGF), or other bone resorption mediators come near. The latter are responsible for bone resorption during eruption, and deciduous teeth root resorption and exfoliation. Should deciduous teeth be subject

Changes in D-aspartic acid in human deciduous teeth with age from 1-20 years.

The racemization ration (D/L ratio) of aspartic acid in the dentin (collagen) of deciduous teeth was studied, using dentin of permanent teeth as a reference. D-aspartic acid in deciduous teeth was found to increase almost linearly with aging. The reaction velocity constant of racemization (kyr-1) in deciduous teeth (1.1915 x 10(-3)yr-1) was approximately double the value for permanent teeth (6.2550 x 10(-4)yr-1). The velocity of the racemization reaction was similar between deciduous teeth and permanent teeth in a dry state. The D/L ratio determined using transverse sections of deciduous teeth

III. dental development from birth to 16 years.

Tooth eruption in 212 randomly selected Swedish urban children has been investigated from birth to 16 years as part of a prospective longitudinal study of growth and development. The ages and the order of eruption of the deciduous and permanent teeth were in agreement with those reported in other contemporary studies. The good agreement with another longitudinal study of the tooth eruption of Swedish children born during the same period is an indication that the present sample was representative of contemporary Swedish children. In the deciduous dentition a probable male advancement was found,

[Prognosis for the deciduous molars of juvenile dogs after root canal filling using apatite root sealer].

There are various restrictions on the root canal filling of deciduous roots after root canal treatment unlike in the case of permanent teeth, because deciduous molars undergo physiological root resorption with aging. Among the restrictions, it is most important that the root canal filling material be similarly absorbed and disappear along with the deciduous root so that it does not prevent the eruption of the permanent successors. Hardly any of the root canal filling materials currently on the market, however, are suitable for deciduous molars because some of them disappear earlier than the de
