An Aspirated Tooth Masquerading As Lung Cancer: A Unique Case Report.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Tooth aspiration, while commonly linked to predisposing conditions such as loose teeth, facial surgeries, or injuries, can also affect patients without apparent risk factors. Such small foreign body aspirations may go undiagnosed for many months as patients often tolerate the symptoms, such as chronic cough. However, the protracted course of unaddressed foreign body aspiration has the potential to resemble symptoms of malignancy, including persistent hemoptysis, weight loss, and fatigue. In this report, we detail the case of a 51-year-old man with underlying chronic obstructive pulmonary disea

Endodontic and esthetic management of a dilacerated maxillary central incisor having two root canals using cone beam computed tomography as a diagnostic aid.

Traumatic injuries to the primary dentition are quite common. When primary teeth are subjected to trauma, force transmission and/or invasion of the underlying tooth germs lying in close proximity can result in a variety of disturbances in the permanent successors. Few of these disturbances include hypoplasia, dilaceration, or alteration in the eruption sequence and pattern. Dilaceration is defined as an angulation or sharp bend or curve in the linear relationship of the crown of a tooth to its root. A rare case of maxillary left central incisor having crown dilaceration and Vertucci's type II

Management of crown root fracture by interdisciplinary approach.

Fracture of tooth after trauma is distressing to a person because of the discomfort and pain due to pulpal injury. Crown root fractures of anterior teeth cause concomitant periodontal injury and there will be concern about appearance, and aesthetics. Management of pulpal and periodontal tissue relieves pain and restoration of tooth form regains patients confidence. Restoration of fractured tooth will be accepted readily if it is minimally invasive, less expensive, and aesthetically acceptable. Reattachment is an option for restoration of anterior teeth compared to other artificial replacements

Regenerative Strategies for Traumatic Dental Injuries in Craniofacial Trauma: A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic dental injuries are an important component of craniofacial and dentoalveolar trauma and may compromise oral function, facial aesthetics, alveolar support, and long-term tooth preservation, particularly in young patients. They can lead to disruption of pulpal blood supply, pulp necrosis, and periapical tissue damage; in immature permanent teeth with open apices and thin root walls, infection control must be balanced against preservation of further root development. METHODS: Within the broader context of craniofacial trauma, this narrative review summarizes the indications

Postmortem computed tomography and pathology reveal multiple traumatic events in a stranded bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus in Alabama, USA.

This report describes a severely emaciated adult female bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus found dead in September 2021 with numerous traumatic injuries. The animal stranded in coastal Alabama, USA, a hotspot in the Gulf of Mexico for trauma-related marine mammal strandings. A combination of traditional and advanced diagnostic techniques including postmortem examination, histopathology, and computed tomography revealed trauma from multiple events, including rib and vertebral fractures of varying chronicity and a more recent catfish barb penetrating the diaphragm with associated tissue necro

Diagnosis and treatment of dental trauma in a children's hospital.

A comprehensive review of 487 emergency dental trauma visits seen at a children's hospital during a 3-year period was performed to investigate aspects of trauma care that have not been previously reported. Patient characteristics, diagnoses, and injury treatment were analyzed. General patient characteristics and diagnoses were consistent with other studies. Young children were often injured in falls within the home whereas older children were often injured in sports and activities outside the home. The emergency visit was the first contact with the dentist for 80% of children 3.5 years old and

Regenerative Endodontic Procedures for Traumatized Teeth after Horizontal Root Fracture, Avulsion, and Perforating Root Resorption.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic injury to the teeth can cause horizontal root fractures and inflammatory root resorptions (external and internal). Traditionally, traumatized teeth with horizontal root fractures resulting in pulp necrosis and inflammatory root resorptions are treated with conventional root canal therapy. METHODS: A 15-year-old boy had a history of traumatic injury to mature tooth #8 resulting in horizontal root fracture and pulp necrosis of the coronal fragment. A 7-year-old girl suffered an avulsion injury to immature tooth #9, which developed inflammatory replacement resorption and

Delayed orthodontic extrusion of a traumatically intruded immature upper permanent incisor - a case report.

Dental injuries are probably the most common orofacial injuries sustained during sports and play. Intrusion or intrusive luxations occur when the teeth are driven into the alveolus by an axially directed impact. This article describes the clinical case of an 8-year-old patient who suffered complete intrusive luxation of an immature permanent central incisor following an accident. An attempt at spontaneous re-eruption failed to facilitate re-emergence of the tooth beyond 2 mm. The recommended wait-and-see strategy in anticipation of spontaneous re-eruption should cease to be an option when no f

Premature loss of maxillary primary incisor and delayed eruption of its successor: report of a case.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic injuries to primary teeth represent one of the most common aetiologic factors of time-related eruption disturbances of permanent teeth. These include premature eruption, delayed eruption or impactions. CASE REPORT: A case of a 7.5-year-old male with delayed eruption of the maxillary permanent left incisor is presented. The case history revealed a trauma around the age of 3 involving its primary tooth predecessor and its extraction by a dentist about one year later due to frequent abscesses. The clinical examination showed an early mixed dentition and the single presence

Malpractice claims related to tooth extractions.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyze malpractice claims related to tooth extractions in order to identify areas requiring emphasis and eventually to reduce the number of complications. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We compiled a file of all malpractice claims related to tooth extractions (EBA code) between 1997 and 2010 from the Finnish Patient Insurance Centre. We then examined the data with respect to date, tooth, surgery, injury diagnosis, and the authority's decision on the case. RESULTS: The material consisted of 852 completed patient cases. Most of the teeth were third molars (66 %)

Management of Avulsed Permanent Maxillary Incisor Tooth with 11 Hours of Extraoral Time: A Case Report.

AIM: This study describes the management of a replanted and endodontically treated avulsed permanent maxillary incisor tooth with 11 hours of extraoral time. BACKGROUND: Avulsion is one of the most common and severe dental injuries occurring in young children and has an unreliable prognosis. Immediate avulsion treatment is essential to maintain the tooth's vitality and minimize complications. A successful outcome is determined by adequate preservation and early replantation. CASE DESCRIPTION: A nine-year-old boy reported to the advanced dental care clinic with an avulsed tooth #21 due to a b

Management of dentoalveolar injuries in children: a case report.

Children aged 6-15 years old experience more injuries to their teeth and the injuries sustained are more serious as evidenced by a higher percentage of luxations, avulsions, fractures and dislocations. The mandible is the most frequently fractured facial bone and mandibular alveolar injuries have been reported to range between 8.1-50.6%. Those with mandibular or midface fractures have a higher incidence of associated chest, extremity, abdomen and cervical spine injuries. The growing patient with facial injuries presents the clinician with a series of thought-provoking circumstances. Dentoalveo

Surgical repositioning of a developing maxillary central incisor. A case report.

BACKGROUND: A traumatic injury to the primary dentition can cause damage to the germ of the permanent successor. As a clinical consequence a dilaceration with root deformation, malpositioning and disturbances of eruption can occur. Surgical repositioning of such a dislocated crown of a developing tooth can be a treatment option. CASE REPORT: A four year old patient was referred to our clinic because of a mobile upper primary central incisor and a radiographically visible displaced dental crown. Her history revealed a traumatic dental injury one year ago. Radiologic examination confirmed an in

Root Maturity as a Determinant of Post-traumatic Endodontic Outcomes: A Comparative Case Report.

Tooth avulsion and intrusion are severe traumatic dental injuries that often lead to tooth loss and root resorption. The main determinants of prognosis include root maturity, extra-alveolar time, and the timing and type of treatment. This study presents a comparative analysis of the healing responses in two pediatric cases following delayed and complicated replantation, with a focus on how the maturity of the tooth root influenced the outcomes. The case report details two pediatric cases with significantly different healing trajectories after replantation. Case 1 involves an eight-year-old boy

Dental Emergency Rates at an Expeditionary Medical Facility Supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

INTRODUCTION: A core objective of U.S. medical services is to ensure the medical and dental readiness of military personnel. Oral diseases, resulting in pain, infection, or functional impairment, greatly affect the operational effectiveness of military personnel. This study aimed to compare the current causes of dental emergencies and the rates of dental disease nonbattle injuries in a deployed setting with those documented in previous research. Additionally, the study sought to determine if these rates have decreased because of preventive measures or potential improvements in overall oral hea

A case report of a vital replanted tooth with unfavourable extra-alveolar condition: a 10-year follow-up.

This case report describes the survival of a maxillary left central incisor after an avulsion injury under unfavourable extra-alveolar condition, when the patient was 9 years old. At subsequent clinical follow-ups, the tooth maintained vitality 10 years after the injury. There was sign of gradual obliteration of the root canal space. Concomitantly, the replanted tooth manifested typical characteristics of ankylosis with minimally detectable resorption complication.

Management of a complicated crown root fractured tooth via intentional replantation with 180° rotation: a 4-year case report.

This case report describes the successful treatment and 4-year follow-up of a maxillary central incisor with a complicated crown-root fracture that had sustained two separate traumatic injuries during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Following the initial trauma in adolescence, the tooth was treated with root canal therapy and reattachment of the fractured crown fragment. A second trauma in adulthood led to a complicated crown-root fracture whose margin extended subgingivally. The tooth was managed using intentional replantation with 180° rotation and subsequent restoration with a

Influence of the maxillary canine on mandibular fracture.

The length of the root of the mandibular canine tooth has been considered by many authors as being a source of weakness in the mandible. It has also been suggested that a direct blow or a bending force around this tooth can result in traumatic injury. We advance a theory that implicates the maxillary canine tooth as directly contributing to the mandibular canine region fracture pattern.

Long-term complications and management of dental trauma in the adult patient - Part 2: discoloured, displaced and missing teeth.

The second paper in this two-part review series aims to outline the long-term complications of dental trauma in the adult patient in relation to discoloured, displaced or missing teeth. A brief overview of the cause of discolouration is outlined, followed by assessment and management options. These can include bleaching, veneers, or crown restorations to mask the discolouration. Displacement of teeth from the socket can occur due to luxation injuries. Management can include simple digital manipulation, surgical repositioning, or orthodontic extrusion based on the severity of extrusion and the
