In some patients, the permanent central incisors fail to erupt and become impacted within the alveolus. In individuals with unfavorable impactions, surgical replantation may be considered to be a reasonable solution before orthodontic repositioning. In this clinical case report, a 9-year-old male patient presented with the permanent maxillary left central incisor in an inverted position high in the vestibule. He was treated with replantation and orthodontic repositioning with fixed appliances. Radiographic review 2 years post-treatment showed an intact lamina dura consistent with a healthy too

Ankylosis and external replacement resorption (ERR) are two typical biological responses to delayed replantation of avulsed teeth in cases where adequate root canal treatment is performed. The patient's growth stage affects the progression of root resorption and the long-term outcome of the affected teeth. This case report describes the long-term outcome of an 18.5-year-old patient following an accident in which both of his maxillary central incisors were avulsed and replanted after four hours of non-physiological storage. ERR and ankylosis of teeth 11 and 21 were detected clinically and radio

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the survival of periodontally hopeless teeth that were intentionally extracted and replanted after a delay and to compare the radiographic characteristics of the survival group with those of the failure group.
METHODS: The clinical and radiographic data from patients who underwent delayed intentional replantation between March 2000 and July 2010 were reviewed. Twenty-seven periodontally hopeless teeth were extracted and preserved in medium supplemented with antibiotics for 10-14 days. The teeth were then repositioned in the pa

PURPOSE: The aim of this case report was to explain a multidisciplinary and conservative approach carrying out the replantation of an avulsed closed apex central incisor stored in dry conditions for a 16-hour period from the moment of trauma.
CASE REPORT: This report describes a case of a 28 year-old male who suffered contusion of the upper lip, avulsion of right upper central incisor, enamel cracks after trauma of left upper central incisor and upper left lateral incisor crown fracture due to an accident. Avulsed tooth was dry stored and it was replanted 16h after the trauma. The root was di

Periodontal pathology is an unavoidable complication following replantation of avulsed teeth. The present thesis focuses on the etiology, diagnosis, progression and prevention of dentoalveolar ankylosis. The experimental studies were carried out both in vitro and in vivo. Clinical studies were also performed on the progression of ankylosis. Initially, it was determined that the histomorphometrical method used in the animal studies was sufficiently accurate for the estimation of an area of a root surface showing a defined condition. In vivo studies revealed that the periodontal membrane (PDM) o

Delayed replantation of an avulsed tooth may result in rapid root resorption or, more frequently, dental ankylosis with subsequent bone substitution. If this process develop slowly, it is possible to observe that tooth loss is characterized by a well conserved alveolus with regard to bone preservation, particularly in vertical dimension. This clinical case reports a dental trauma of a central incisor in a young boy characterized by tooth avulsion and its delayed replantation. After 10 years, dental ankylosis of the incisor was recorded and the patient underwent a prosthetic-orthodontic rehabil

BACKGROUND: Vertically fractured teeth often have a poor prognosis, and extraction is considered the most predictable treatment. Conventional management has consisted of preservation therapy involving extraction, bonding, root restoration, and replantation of fractured teeth. However, these methods fail to adequately address the periodontal tissue damage associated with root fractures. This report describes successful periodontal tissue regeneration using basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) combined with a carbonate apatite-based bone graft material (CaAp) as a scaffold during the replantat

When a dentist replants an avulsed tooth, the repair process sometimes results in the cementum of the root and the alveolar bone fusing together, with the replanted tooth becoming ankylosed. When this occurs, the usual process of tooth movement with bone deposition and bone resorption at the periodontium cannot function. If dental ankylosis occurs in the maxillary incisor of a growing child, the ankylosed tooth also cannot move vertically with the subsequent vertical growth of the alveolar process. This results in the ankylosed tooth leaving the plane of occlusion and often becoming esthetical

Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are benign odontogenic cysts that are associated with the crowns of permanent teeth. The purpose of this study is to describe the management of DCs in four children. Four boys aged between 7 and 9 years were referred to our clinics with the complaints of intraoral alveolar swelling or facial asymmetry on the affected area. The panoramic radiographies showed large, well-defined radiolucent lesions associated with the deciduous teeth and displaced tooth buds. The treatment consisted of the extraction of the involved deciduous tooth and marsupialization of the cyst to allo

Intentional replantation consists of purposefully extracting a tooth, correcting the defect and replanting it into its original socket. This case report describes how this technique was used to successfully restore an external cervical resorptive (ECR) lesion. A 22-year-old man was diagnosed with ECR of the mandibular right canine following clinical and radiographic examination. CBCT showed the lesion had been initiated distally and extended circumferentially around the root canal. The nature of the resorptive lesion meant that it was inaccessible to repair conventionally in a predictable mann

This report highlights successful management of a rare case of a mandibular premolar with Oehler's Type IIIb Dens Invaginatus (DI) and peri-invagination periodontitis with guided intentional replantation without root canal treatment. A 22-year-old female patient reported with discomfort and a sinus tract associated with tooth number 21. Clinical examination and cone beam computed tomography revealed tooth number 21 had an Oehler's Type IIIb DI with peri-invagination periodontitis. The patient had partially healed sockets in the number 19 and number 30 regions. Thus, guided intentional replanta

When a tooth is avulsed and replanted following traumatic dental injury, complications such as replacement and inflammatory resorption may occur. Ultimately, resorption may result in loss of the tooth. This case report describes a traumatic injury to a permanent tooth resulting in complete root resorption within a short period, which required surgery. In the present case, improper treatment measures such as dry condition of the avulsed tooth before replantation and extra-oral retrograde root canal filling may have led to rapid complete root resorption. Even if it is impossible to avoid resorpt

INTRODUCTION: The goal of replantation after dental avulsion is to maintain the tooth in its socket. Presence of vital periodontal ligament cells on the root surface of the replanted tooth and the immunologic status of the patient are factors that protect against root resorption. It is known that dental constituents play an active role in root resorption by inducing specific and non-specific immune responses; however, little information exists regarding the influence of the acquired immune response on replantation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the 5-year outcome of replanta

Avulsed human permanent teeth subjected to a minimum of 1 h dry extraoral storage before replantation were followed radiographically for an average of 4.8 years. The depth of root resorption cavities was assessed using a radiographic index, and the rate of root resorption was defined as the index change over time. The frequency of inflammatory and replacement resorption was determined at each observation time. Replacement resorption increased in frequency with time in all patients. In teeth endodontically treated within 3 weeks of replantation, minimal inflammatory resorption was found regardl

OBJECTIVE: An altered sensation during endodontic treatment can occur due to the extrusion of endodontic materials. This study aims to discuss intentional replantation to address paresthesia resulting from an endodontic file penetrating the inferior alveolar nerve canal and provide a protocol for managing nerve injuries in such incidents.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 12-year-old girl developed paresthesia when an endodontic file separated and was inadvertently pushed through the apical foramen into the inferior alveolar nerve canal during root canal treatment of the mandibular left first molar. A CBC

BACKGROUND: Replantation of avulsed teeth is an invasive treatment approach where patient cooperation is required after the risks are explained to the patient or family. Although replantation of an avulsed permanent teeth is an accepted treatment approach, the long-term prognosis of the replanted teeth is still controversial. This report describes the survival of delayed replanted 15 incisors that was stored in unfavorable conditions after avulsion.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine patients, aged 8-12 years, were referred to the Inonu University, Pediatric Dentistry Department with traumatically a

External cervical resorption (ECR) often renders a tooth nonrestorable, especially if it extends deeply within the dental hard tissue. Intentional replantation is sometimes performed as the last resort to save the tooth but may limit conventional forceps extraction because of the high risk of periodontal ligament cell damage or crown fracture. This case report describes the intentional replantation of an upper central incisor with extensive ECR using an axial, atraumatic extraction system to save the otherwise hopeless tooth. The patient was an asymptomatic 37-year-old man with no contributing

The purpose of this histologic and autoradiographic study of replanted teeth was to evaluate the beneficial effect, if any, of lyophilized autologous plasma (LAP) application on periodontal healing and to re-examine rates of repair in different areas of the associated periodontium following replantation. Maxillary and mandibular incisors and premolars of three rhesus monkeys were used. Teeth were extracted with forceps and placed in sterile physiologic saline. After 5 minutes each tooth was returned to its socket and immobilized by interproximal acid-etch splints. Splints were removed after 1
