Health expectations : an international journal of public participation in health care and health policy2020eng
BACKGROUND: Best-practice guidelines recommend that appropriate support be provided to public contributors to facilitate their involvement in research. One form of support is research awareness training. Older people with dementia and care partners were involved in four Research User Groups (RUGs) in the UK, France, Cyprus and Greece. We delivered research awareness training (RAT) to the RUGs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the acceptability and perceived outcomes of the training from the perspective of RUG members.
METHODS: At the end of each research training session, participants co

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Contemporary approaches to the treatment of cerebral palsy (CP) advocate a task-specific approach that emphasizes repetition and practice of specific tasks. Recent studies suggest that body-weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT) programs may be beneficial in clinical settings. The purposes of this case series were to explore the outcomes and feasibility of a home-based BWSTT program for three children with CP.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Three children with CP at Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) Levels III or IV participated in this case series. Examinatio

Mask fitting and accommodation of CPAP-devices are of great importance. Only by accommodation over several hours, problems concerning mask size and fixation of mask are recognised and solved. Many patients overestimate the time they needed for achieving accommodation. We therefore asked whether by visualizing the time required for accommodation the accommodation time can be prolonged. Additionally we compared the subjective estimation on the time with the objectively measured time. We studied 20 patients with sleep apnoea syndrome, 13 men and 7 women, age 53 +/- 4 years, apnoea/hypopnoea index

INTRODUCTION: While Paralympic sport programs are increasingly recognized for their contribution to the well-being and social inclusion of people with disabilities, less attention has been given to the factors that facilitate or constrain athletes' participation within these programs. Understanding how individual motivation, support systems, and structural barriers influence engagement in sport programs is particularly relevant in under-researched contexts such as Latin America. This study aims to: a) describe the socio-demographic and sport participation profiles of athletes involved in a Par

PURPOSE: Children with complex medical and communication needs often experience extensive or frequent hospital stays and rely on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies to communicate in this environment. Health care providers seldom receive training to effectively communicate with these children, which may lead to limited participation opportunities for the child during inpatient interactions.
METHOD: A pretest-posttest experimental group design was completed to evaluate the effects of a brief mobile training designed to teach providers a procedure to support children wit

Intensive weight-supported treadmill training (WSTT) improves locomotor function following spinal cord injury. Because of a number of factors, undergoing intensive sessions of training may not be feasible. Whether reduced amounts of training are sufficient to enhance spinal plasticity to a level that is necessary for improving function is not known. The focus of the present study was to assess differences in recovery of locomotor function and spinal plasticity as a function of the amount of steps taken during WSTT in a rodent model of spinal cord injury. Rats were spinally transected at 5 days

BACKGROUND: Embedding a palliative approach into long-term care (LTC) homes can be hindered by poor communication around prognosis and an individual's personal wishes and goals for care. Risk Evaluation for Support: Predictions for Elder life in their Communities Tool (RESPECT) is a risk communication tool that supports earlier identification of palliative care needs. When paired with established resources like the Serious Illness Conversation (SIC) Guide, these tools have the potential to enable more timely, higher-quality goals-of-care conversations in LTC. We sought to evaluate training pro

Education for primary care : an official publication of the Association of Course Organisers, National Association of GP Tutors, World Organisation of Family Doctors2026eng
The transition from hospital-based training to community general practice is a challenging period for GP trainees, characterised by clinical uncertainty, increased responsibility, and a high emotional and cognitive load. There is limited literature describing practical educational tools designed specifically to support trainees during this transition. This paper describes the development, educational rationale, pilot implementation and potential applications of the GP Survival Kit. The GP survival kit is a box containing 13 everyday items, each symbolising a core concept relevant to safe and e
