Therapeutic value of trichloroacetic acid in the treatment of isolated genital warts on the external female genitalia.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of 85% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) in the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated genital warts of the external genitalia and to detect the recurrence rate and side effects of this therapeutic regimen. STUDY DESIGN: All patients with a suspected HPV-related papillary vulvar lesion after initial examination underwent vulvoscopic evaluation with a magnification of 8-20x using acetic acid and toluidine blue. Under local anesthesia, biopsies were taken from acuminate or papillary warts for histopathologic confirmation and from suspicious areas to exclude

Analysis of trichloroacetic acid in the urine of workers occupationally exposed to trichloroethylene by capillary gas chromatography.

A gas chromatographic procedure is described for the determination of trichloroacetic acid in urine, the major metabolite of trichloroethylene exposure. Trichloroacetic acid was derivatised to its methyl ester with BF3/methanol reagent and then extracted into toluene and analysed by capillary gas chromatography using electron-capture detection. The response was linear in the range 0.4-100 mg/l of trichloroacetic acid in urine and showed a relative recovery of 99.6%. The procedure is suitable for monitoring occupational exposure to trichloroethylene.

Ras oncogene activation during hepatocarcinogenesis in B6C3F1 male mice by dichloroacetic and trichloroacetic acids.

Dichloroacetic (DCA) and trichloroacetic (TCA) acids, two major by-products formed during chlorine disinfection of drinking water, increase the incidence of tumors in B6C3F1 mice by 6- and 3-fold respectively. In order to understand better the mechanism by which these two compounds induce liver tumors, the incidence and spectrum of mutations in the K- and H-ras proto-oncogenes in these tumors were analyzed. DNA from spontaneous, DCA- and TCA-induced liver tumor from B6C3F1 male mice was evaluated for point mutations in exons 1, 2 and 3 of the two genes by single-stranded conformation polymorph

Physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling with trichloroethylene and its metabolite, trichloroacetic acid, in the rat and mouse.

The uptake and metabolism of trichloroethylene (TCE), and the stoichiometric yield and kinetic behavior of one of its major metabolites, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), were compared in Fischer 344 rats and B6C3F1 mice using a physiological model. Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PB-PK) model parameters (metabolic rate constants and tissue partition coefficients) were determined in male and female B6C3F1 mice and were taken from the literature for the male and female Fischer 344 rats. The kinetic behavior of TCA was described by a classical one-compartment model linked to a PB-PK model for T

Interference by hemolysis with various methods for total calcium and its correction by trichloroacetic acid precipitation.

We evaluated the influence of hemolysis on total serum calcium as determined with the Du Pont aca, SMA 12/60, Ektachem 400, Corning 940 EGTA titrator, and the Beckman Astra 8, comparing results with those obtained by atomic absorption spectroscopy. We find that hemoglobin does not influence calcium measurements with the SMA 12/60, Ektachem 400, or Beckman Astra 8. The presence of hemoglobin exceeding 2 to 3 g/L caused falsely high results with the aca and falsely low results with the Corning 940 titrator. Similar interferences may be observed with other titrating or colorimetric procedures tha

A simple method for the quantitative analysis of urinary trichloroethanol and trichloroacetic acid as an index of trichloroethylene exposure.

Ogata, M., Takatsuka, Y., and Tomokuni, K. (1970).Brit. J. industr. Med.,27, 378-381. A simple method for the quantitative analysis of urinary trichloroethanol and trichloroacetic acid as an index of trichloroethylene exposure. A simple method of estimating trichloroethanol and trichloroacetic acid in the urine of workers exposed to trichloroethylene is described. The glucuronide of trichloroethanol was hydrolysed enzymatically to trichloroethanol by β-glucuronidase and the trichloroethanol released was allowed to react with pyridine and potassium hydroxide in that order, thereby avoiding deco

Green chemistry in urinalysis for trichloroethanol and trichloroacetic acid as markers of exposure to chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents.

The aim of the present study was to develop a method of urinalysis for trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and trichloroethanol (TCE), and therefore total trichloro-compounds (TTC) as the sum, with least use of hazardous chemicals, being green in that sense. After acid hydrolysis followed by dilution with an ethanol (EtOH)-methanol (MeOH)-water mixture, capillary gas-choromatography with an electron-capture detector can quantify TCA and TCE in the diluted hydrolyzate. Comparison studies showed that the results were identical among three methods, i.e., 1. the method developed in the present study, 2. a

Concentrations of tetrachloroethene in blood and trichloroacetic acid in urine in workers and neighbours of dry-cleaning shops.

Tetrachloroethene concentrations in blood and trichloroacetic acid concentrations in urine were determined--primarily over the course of a week--for 29 persons living in the vicinity of dry-cleaning shops. The mean levels of tetrachloroethene increased during the week. In some neighbours concentrations were exceeding the German biological threshold limit value for tetrachloroethene (1000 micrograms/l blood), persisting over the whole week in one case. The concentrations of tetrachloroethene in blood depended on the floor and the construction type of the building where these people were living,

Failure of monochloroacetic acid and trichloroacetic acid administered in the drinking water to produce liver cancer in male F344/N rats.

The chlorinated acetic acids monochloroacetic acid (MCA) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) are found as chlorine disinfection by-products in finished drinking-water supplies. TCA has been demonstrated to be a mouse liver carcinogen. A chronic study in which male Fischer 344/N rats were exposed for 104 wk to TCA and MCA in the drinking water is described. Animals, 28 d old, were exposed to 0.05, 0.5, or 2 g/L MCA, or 0.05, 0.5, or 5 g/L TCA. The 2.0 g/L MCA was lowered in stages to 1 g/L when the animals began to exhibit signs of toxicity. A time-weighted mean daily MCA concentration (MDC) of 1.1

Lack of formic acid production in rat hepatocytes and human renal proximal tubule cells exposed to chloral hydrate or trichloroacetic acid.

The industrial solvent trichloroethylene (TCE) and its major metabolites have been shown to cause formic aciduria in male rats. We have examined whether chloral hydrate (CH) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA), known metabolites of TCE, produce an increase in formic acid in vitro in cultures of rat hepatocytes or human renal proximal tubule cells (HRPTC). The metabolism and cytotoxicity of CH was also examined to establish that the cells were metabolically active and not compromised by toxicity. Rat hepatocytes and HRPTC were cultured in serum-free medium and then treated with 0.3-3mM CH for 3 days

Advanced reduction processes initiated by oxidative radicals for trichloroacetic acid degradation: Performance, radical generation, and mechanism.

The degradation of haloacetic acids (HAAs) in aqueous environments poses a challenge due to their oxidative resistance. Given that HAAs are highly carcinogenic disinfection byproducts, it is imperative to develop effective degradation methods to reduce their potential health risk. In this study, we found that only 27.2% of 200 μM trichloroacetic acid (TCA) was removed in the UV-activated persulfate (PS) system after 2 h, while complete removal was achieved with the addition of 15 mM formic acid (FA). The main products of TCA degradation were dichloroacetic acid and monochloroacetic acid. Resul

Cryopeeling versus trichloroacetic acid peeling in the treatment of solar lentigines: Effect on epidermal Langerhans cells.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peeling may be effective in solar lentigines, but with concerns regarding potential tumorigenesis. Cryopeeling would be better with improving the whole sun-damaged skin. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of cryopeeling and TCA 35% peeling for treatment of solar lentigines and assess their influence on the number of epidermal Langerhans cells (LC). Twenty-five patients were treated with TCA 35% and cryopeeling on the right and left hands, respectively. Two sessions were done 3 weeks apart. Evaluations were scheduled at weeks 0, 3, and 6. Trichloroacetic acid (80%) as a chemical debridement method for chronic venous leg ulcers-A pilot study.

Debridement is essential for the optimal care of venous leg ulcers. Several debridement methods with different limitations may be deployed. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used for several dermatological purposes. Its application as a chemical debridement method for leg ulcers has never been explored. We designed a prospective study to determine the role of 80% TCA solution as a chemical debridement method for leg ulcers, regarding efficacy and procedure-associated pain. Chronic venous leg ulcers were treated with 3 cycles of 80% TCA solution or curettage over 1 week. Pain and the mean percentag

Protein composition of the phase I Coxiella burnetii soluble antigen prepared by extraction with trichloroacetic acid.

Q fever is a highly infectious, widespread airborne zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetii bacterium. Humans usually acquire the disease by inhalation of contaminated aerosol produced by infected livestock. Vaccination is the most practical way for prevention and control of the disease in the exposed population. In this work, we reviewed the most important Q-fever outbreaks in Slovakia as well as the progress in vaccine development. One of them represents a soluble antigen complex produced by extraction with trichloroacetic acid from a highly purified C. burnetii phase I strain Nine Mile. It was
