Elsholtzia penduliflora W.W. Smith (Lamiaceae), a medicinal herb traditionally used in Vietnam, was investigated for its anti-inflammatory potential. Phytochemical analysis of its aerial parts, extracted using 80% ethanol, yielded 15 oleanane-type saponins (1-15) using chromatographic techniques. Acetylated triterpenoids betulin, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, and glycyrrhetinic acid were converted into their succinyl-spacered acetazolamide conjugates. We investigated the role of triterpene barbinervic acid from Eugenia punicifolia dichloromethane extract in vasopressor responses. Renal arteries were cannulated and perfused with Krebs-Hepes solution. Changes in aorta isometric tension were recorded and transferred to a data acquisition system. Acne vulgaris is a nearly universal cutaneous disease characterized by multifactorial pathogenic processes. Zika virus (ZIKV) infection is a global threat associated to neurological disorders in adults and microcephaly in children born to infected mothers. No vaccine or drug is available against ZIKV. We herein report the anti-ZIKV activity of 36 plant extracts containing polyphenols and/or triterpenes.
