BACKGROUND: Open surgical approaches to intraventricular tumours are complex and challenging. Neuro-endoscopy, however, has enabled us to biopsy and resect small intraventricular tumours with potentially reduced morbidity. Nevertheless, suitable methods/ instrumentation for resection have limited the use of the endoscope. The authors report the utilisation of endoscopic ultrasonic aspirator in the resection of an intraventricular tumour. This technique was compared to another case that utilised conventional endoscopic techniques for removal of an intraventricular tumour.

Urachal cysts are usually asymptomatic. Symptoms, when present, are usually acute abdominal pain, fever, midline hypogastric tenderness, palpable mass, evidence of urinary infection or haematuria due to infection of the cyst. We report an unique case of dyspareunia and "abdominal fluid flowing feeling" caused by an urachal cyst in a 28 year-old nulliparous woman. Diagnosis was achieved by US and MRI. An 80-year-old woman was referred to our institution because of acute heart failure due to moderate mitral stenosis and severe regurgitation. After medical treatment of heart failure, she underwent mitral valve surgery. Intraoperatively severe calcification of the posterior mitral annulus was revealed. We excised only the anterior mitral leaflet and preserved the posterior mitral leaflet to prevent a fatal complication such as left ventricular rupture, injury of the coronary artery or embolism. Decompression of lumbar spinal stenosis is the most common spinal surgery in those over 60 years of age. While this procedure has shown immediate and durable benefits, improvements in outcome have not changed significantly. Technical aspects of surgical decompression have evolved significantly. The recently introduced ultrasonic bone cutter allows a precise and safe peri-neural bone resection. The principles of preservation of stability, as described by Getty et al. have remained as relevant as when these were described 40 years ago.

We propose a technique for combined femto laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and limited vitrectomy from the pars-plana site for optimization of surgical results in subluxated cataracts.
