Clinical data of 29 patients with uterine malformation treated at the Fertility Unit, Service and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. G. Grant B. Clinical Hospital, Concepción Chile from January 1978 to May 1990 are presented. Uterine septa (19 cases, 65.5%) were the most common uterine malformation found. Less frequent were: uterus bicornuous 7 cases (24.1%) and uterus didelphis 3 cases (10.4%). The high frequency (92.8%) of pregnancy wastage is detached. Surgical treatment was practiced in 24 patients. Thirteen Tompkins and 5 Jones techniques were performed in 18 uterine septa. Five

OBJECTIVE: Unusual presentation of unknown etiology, Rare disease, Mistake in diagnosis.
BACKGROUND: Müllerian anomalies encompass a wide variety of malformations in the female genital tract, usually associated with renal and anorectal malformations. Of these anomalies, approximately 11% are uterus didelphys, which occurs when midline fusion of the müllerian ducts is arrested to a variable extent.
CASE REPORT: We report the case o

OBJECTIVES: Vaginal septa and associated mullerian anomalies can be difficult to diagnose and manage. This case series intends to educate the readers about the benefits and limitations of radiologic techniques both for the investigation as well as for the surgical management of these cases. It also seeks to inform them about a unique combination of vaginal and uterine anomalies known as Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome.
CASES: Three cases were discussed, each with a different presentation. All of the cases included obstructed right hemivagina and right renal agenesis. One case was associated

Herein, we report the first case of successful term delivery of twins in a patient with bicorporeal septate uterus via natural conception. The patient had been diagnosed with complete septate, didelphys and bicornuate uterus during different phases of her three pregnancies. Based on follow-up data at six weeks and then six months post-partum of the last pregnancy, we found that the abnormalities presented in our case did not fit the criteria of any categories following American Fertility Society and European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology-European Society for Gynaecological Endos

OBJECTIVE: To estimate whether the severity of uterine anomaly is associated with the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of patients delivered by one maternal fetal medicine group from 2005 to 2012. We included 158 patients with a singleton pregnancy and a uterine anomaly, as well as an equal number of randomly selected unexposed singleton pregnancies delivered by the same group. Patients with uterine anomalies were subdivided into those with major fusion defects (unicornuate, bicornuate and didelphys) and minor fusion defects (arcuate, septate and t-shape

A rare case of a twin pregnancy occurring in the right horn of a uterus didelphys (double uterus, double cervix and septate vagina) is reported. The occasional diagnosis of this uterine anomaly was made after the pregnancy was detected. Both embryos, with cardiac actions which proved the viability of the gestation from the very early stage of pregnancy, were detected by transvaginal ultrasonography. Two male infants were delivered by Cesarean section in the 34th week. The importance of the transvaginal sonography and the handling of the case during this high-risk pregnancy are reported.

Abnormalities of the lower urinary and genital tracts commonly coexist, although congenital vesicovaginal fistula is extremely rare. We report the first case of congenital vesicovaginal fistula and hypoplastic kidney in association with uterine didelphys. Despite extensive investigation throughout childhood, a definitive diagnosis was not made until 16 years of age. We discuss some of the difficulties that might arise in diagnosing a small vesicovaginal fistula in the presence of a fusion abnormality of the genital tract and suggest how such cases might be investigated and managed surgically.

OBJECTIVE: In singleton pregnancies, a uterine anomaly is a known risk factor for preterm birth and fetal growth restriction. Data on outcomes of twin pregnancies with uterine anomalies is limited to case reports. The objective of this study was to compare outcomes in twin pregnancies based on the presence or not of a uterine anomaly.
METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort of twin pregnancies managed by a single maternal-fetal medicine practice from 2005 to 2012. Patients with monoamniotic twins and twin-twin transfusion syndrome were excluded. Pregnancy outcomes were compared between patie

Müllerian malformations include a broad range of anomalies, resulting from the incomplete formation and/or differentiation of the Müllerian ducts. The uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina represents the result of a lateral nonfusion of the Müllerian ducts with asymmetric obstruction, and it is almost always associated with renal agenesis. We report a case of incidental discovery of this anomaly in a 12-year-old girl during a routine renal ultrasound. A right multicystic dysplastic kidney had been detected in the prenatal and neonatal period with no evidence of uterine anomaly. Postnatal

Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome is a rare developmental anomaly that is consists of uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. This rare entity is the spectrum of Mullerian duct anomalies (MDA) accompanied by developmental anomaly of one of Wolffian ducts. The present report demonstrated HWW syndrome and reviewed literatures in term of embryological etiology, clinical manifestation, radiographic findings and surgical management. In this case report is a 11-year-old girl presented with chronic pelvic pain. She had menarche at the age of 10 and her menstr

The reproductive history of 19 women with the diagnosis of uterus didelphys is reported. With this goal the patients were divided into two groups: A) composed of 15 patients who did not undergo any surgical correction of uterine anomaly; B) composed of 4 patients where metroplasty was performed. Diagnosis was made in 17 cases (85.9%) for reasons not related to the uterine anomaly, only in 2 cases did patients present with infertility complaints. Vaginal malformation was associated in 16 (85%) cases; in 11 cases longitudinal septum was present; whereas in 5 hemivagina atretica was found. Eleven

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To show a conservative surgical treatment for a female adolescent affected by Wunderlich syndrome with didelphys uterus and obstructed hemivagina.
DESIGN: Stepwise demonstration of the technique with narrated video footage.
SETTING: In the context of obstructive congenital müllerian anomalies, involving a stagnation of menstrual blood, the Wunderlich syndrome is the most common and constantly characterized by the duplicity of the uterine body, by the presence of an imperforate hemivagina, and by renal agenesis ipsilateral to the obstructed hemivagina. The imperforate hemivag

A total of 182 women with uterine anomalies were observed over a period of 18 years. In all, 126 women had 265 pregnancies, fetal survival rate was 66%, perinatal mortality 8% and premature labors occurred in 23%. When the uterine anomalies were grouped according to degree of failure of normal and uterine development, the complete septate uteri had the best fetal survival rate (86%), complete bicornuate uteri (50%) and unicornuate (40%) poorest. Cervical cerclage was applied most in the partial bicornuate uteri (17%), where fetal survival in operated cases was: before operation, 53% and after,

Complex congenital lacrimal drainage anomalies are known to be associated with several syndromes and present unique surgical challenges. Duplication of human body structures is uncommon and has been reported in the uterus (uterine didelphys), ureter (duplex ureter), duodenum, transverse colon, and nose. Lacrimal drainage anomalies have been reported in proboscis lateralis. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there are no prior reports on duplication of the lacrimal sac. The present case reports a complex congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction that was associated with duplication of the la

BACKGROUND: Uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina (UDWOH) and ipsilateral renal agenesis is a distinct but rare entity.
OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the association between UDWOH and a multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) in neonates. To demonstrate the usefulness of sonography with vaginal fluid instillation in the early and reliable diagnosis of this genital anomaly in girls with MCDK.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our patients were five female neonates with a MCDK, which had been detected in utero. We performed sonography of the internal genitalia in all patients before and after filling the

We present case series of four patients with an important syndrome known as Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome. Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly characterised by uterus didelphys with blind hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. It usually presents after menarche with progressive pelvic pain during menses secondary to haematocolpos. Awareness is necessary to diagnose and treat this disorder properly before complications occur. Magnetic resonance imaging is the preferred modality for the delineation of uterine malformation. When renal anomalies are encountered,

Uterine unification procedures were performed on 17 patients with müllerian anomalies in an attempt to achieve reproductive capability. None of the 17 patients had any living children prior to undergoing these metroplasties. Fifteen patients had a septate uterine anomaly that necessitated use of the modified Jones procedure. The Strassmann procedure was performed in 2 patients, one with a bicornuate uterus and one with a didelphys uterus. After analyzing the follow-up data on 16 of these patients, 12 have conceived at least once (resulting in a total of 15 pregnancies), 3 of those who have not

Ninety-eight cases of congenital uterine malformations were diagnosed with hysterosalpingography (HSG). Symmetric uterine malformations, composed of bicornuate uterus, uterus didelphys and septate uterus, constituted 80% of the cases. Of them, 75% were of the bicornuate type. Infertility (55%) and a suggestion of cervical incompetence (24%) were the main indication for HSG. Premature deliveries (29%), spontaneous first-trimester abortions (24%), ectopic pregnancies (3%), abnormal fetal presentations (23%) and a high cesarean section rate (27.5%) occurred in those patients. The highest rate of

A 27-year-old nulliparous woman presented with a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen and abdominal pain. A left ovarian tumor, uterus didelphys, left renal agenesis, and left vaginal atresia were observed on imaging. The ovarian tumor was presumed to have caused the abdominal pain, and an abdominal left adnexectomy was performed. After 3 months, she reported severe lower abdominal pain during menstruation. Transvaginal ultrasonography revealed uterine enlargement. After 17 days, the patient presented with abdominal pain and fever. She was diagnosed with peritonitis due to infection and le
