Uveal effusion syndrome mimicking severe chronic posterior uveitis: a case series of seven eyes of four patients.

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical findings and management of eyes affected by uveal effusion syndrome (UES) presenting with clinical features mimicking inflammatory ocular diseases, treated using individualized surgical approaches. METHODS: We report a consecutive interventional case series of seven eyes of four patients affected by UES. On presentation in our clinic, all patients showed signs of steroid effects as a consequence of a presumptive diagnosis; one eye had undergone vitrectomy for retinal detachment (RD), without benefit. Diagnosis of UES was based on ophthalmic examination, ultra

Reactivation of juvenile idiopathic arthritis associated uveitis with posterior segment manifestations following anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in the pediatric population and anterior uveitis is its commonest extra-articular manifestation. Typically the uveitis presents as chronic anterior uveitis and there is limited literature of the posterior segment manifestations of the disease. Similar to other vaccines, anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination that began as an urgent measure to control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has not been without adverse events. We are reporting a 19-year-old Asian Indian female who was diagnosed and treated for JIA a

Posterior Uveitis in Ocular-Involving Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and the Utility of Negative MYD88 L265P Testing in the Diagnosis.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate if a negative test result for MYD88 L265P mutation, associated with vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL) and primary CNS lymphoma, in liquid biopsies from intraocular fluids can be a useful adjuvant test to diagnose chronic lymphocytic leukemia in clinically challenging cases. CASE PRESENTATIONS: We selected patients with a past medical history or examinations findings suspicious for intraocular lymphoma. We evaluated both vitreous and aqueous humor-derived (AHD) MYD88 L265P mutation from patients that had suspected intraocular lymphoma that warr

The Use of Sustained Release Intravitreal Steroid Implants in Non-Infectious Uveitis Affecting the Posterior Segment of the Eye.

The treatment of non-infectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment of the eye has been revolutionized by the development of sustained-release corticosteroid implants over the past decade. Their use is now supported by healthcare systems that have licensed and commissioned them on the basis of the high-quality randomised controlled trials that formed part of their development and which have informed clinicians as to their benefits and risks. In particular, they have provided an alternative mode of treatment for patients who do not wish to be systemically immunosuppressed, or in whom such i

Microvascular changes in the recurrent cystoid macular edema secondary to posterior noninfectious uveitis on optical coherence tomography angiography.

BACKGROUND: Posterior uveitis represents the second most frequent type of uveitis (15-30% of all uveitis). Noninfectious posterior uveitis complicated with secondary cystoid macular edema (CME) affects the visual prognosis negatively. The objective of the current study is to detect possible microvascular changes causing relapsing uveitis-related CME using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: This is an interventional, observational, retrospective study with 1 year follow-up. Patients with noninfectious, posterior uveitis-related CME undergoing dexamethasone (DEX) implant

An investigation of the general immune status and specific immune responsiveness to retinal-(S)-antigen in patients with chronic posterior uveitis.

Immunological abnormalities in endogenous posterior uveitis are widely reported but difficult to verify. We have therefore studied several immunological parameters in 14 patients with chronic posterior uveitis and compared the results with 14 healthy controls. Both the general immune status and the specific immune responsiveness to retinal S-antigen have been investigated. Results for the patient group as a whole were not significantly different from the control group. However the patients with severe eye disease (n = 4) had a reduced proliferative response to streptokinase-streptodornase anti

Distinct recurrence pattern in a case of bilateral tubercular posterior uveitis: reporting a unique clinical morphology and management challenge.

Intraocular tuberculosis has protean clinical manifestations and remains an important etiological differential for uveitis in an endemic region. A 27-year-old male presented with visual acuity of counting fingers close to face in right (OD) and 20/25 in left eye (OS). Examination revealed a choroidal granuloma in OS and healed serpiginous-like choroiditis in OD. Antitubercular therapy was started with systemic corticosteroids. Granuloma resolved completely; however, the patient presented with neuroretinitis and posterior scleritis, as first and second recurrence, respectively, within a oneyear
