Annals of behavioral medicine : a publication of the Society of Behavioral Medicine2026eng
BACKGROUND: Many participants in behavioral weight loss (BWL) programs struggle to meet the moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) prescription. Elucidating momentary predictors of MVPA in BWL programs could improve targeting of risk/protective factors, which may boost MVPA adherence and enhance weight control; yet this remains unstudied.
PURPOSE: To examine momentary factors as potential predictors of MVPA intentions, behavior, and the intention-behavior gap among BWL participants.
METHODS: Participants (N = 116) were adults with overweight/obesity in a 12-week remote BWL interventio

This single-arm proof-of-concept study assessed the feasibility and acceptability of 'Survivors RESET', a stress management-enhanced behavioral weight loss intervention for Black female breast cancer survivors with obesity and high perceived stress. Participants received a 16-session, 4-month intervention based on the core curriculum of the Diabetes Prevention Program, enhanced with stress management and cancer-relevant content. Feasibility benchmarks were ≥ 45% enrollment, ≥ 75% retention, and ≥ 70% adherence; acceptability was ≥ 80% satisfaction. Exploratory weight loss analyses were perform

Background: Obesity is characterized by chronic low-grade inflammation and metabolic disturbances, including an altered tryptophan (Trp) catabolism through the kynurenine pathway (KP). Since the KP is closely linked to immune activity, energy metabolism, and hepatic function, modulating its flux through lifestyle interventions has gained interest as a potential therapeutic strategy. Objective: This exploratory study aimed to investigate the impact of a structured 12-week weight loss program (WLP) on serum KP metabolites in a sample of Mexican women with obesity. Methods: This study involved a

Background: Studies focusing on the effects of lifestyle strategies on patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that go beyond body weight and explore body composition are currently scarce and inconclusive. Objectives/Methods: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a 12-month intensive life intervention program (ILI), based on a hypocaloric Mediterranean diet, on changes in the body composition parameters as assessed by abdominal computed tomography (CT) and the cardiorespiratory profile of patients with severe OSA and grade I-II obesity, compared to patients receiving standar

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of the fast weight loss method on liver steatosis, fibrosis, inflammation, glycemic and lipid features and body composition in patients with severe nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and type 2 diabetes (T2D).
METHODS: A 24 week open prospective randomized controlled clinical trial including 80 adult patients (aged 40-65 years) was performed. The patients after randomization were divided into two groups: the main group followed the fast weight loss method; the control group received conventional drug treatment. The fast weight loss method included cal

INTRODUCTION: Overweight and obesity rates are rising globally, including among young adults, posing significant health risks. However, prevention programs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are limited, and little is known about their applicability in these settings. This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of overweight and obesity prevention and management interventions among young adults in LMICs.
METHODS: Databases, including Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science, were systematically searched to identify trials published between 2014 and February 20

Metformin and weight loss relationships with epigenetic age measures-biological aging biomarkers-remain understudied. We performed a post-hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial among overweight/obese breast cancer survivors (N = 192) assigned to metformin, placebo, weight loss with metformin, or weight loss with placebo interventions for 6 months. Epigenetic age was correlated with chronological age (r = 0.20-0.86; P < 0.005). However, no significant epigenetic aging associations were observed by intervention arms. Consistent with published reports in non-cancer patients, 6 months of me

Obesity, a chronic multifactorial disease, has been on the rise in the United States in recent years. It paves a way to other chronic conditions and related morbidity and mortality. The treatment of obesity should have a chronic approach involving lifestyle modifications from the very beginning. Along with reduced calorie diet, increased physical activity, and behavior modifications, various short- and long-term pharmacological agents are available to help with the weight loss. For qualifying patients, selection of an appropriate agent based on its mechanism, efficacy, and safety profile as we

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a syndrome of unknown cause that is increasing in frequency. Patients who are typically women of childbearing age and obese present with headaches and may also present with visual changes that may become chronic. The purpose of this review is to describe the possible mechanisms for this disease and also to illustrate the ever increasing role of imaging in the diagnosis of this disorder. In addition, the various methods of treatment including medical and surgical will be reviewed. The fact that idiopathic intracranial hypertension has undergone many

This study identified and characterized the rates of documentation and guideline-based management of overweight and obese children within an academic pediatric clinic through a retrospective electronic medical record review of 7422 well-child visits in 2016. Diagnosis and treatment were analyzed by patient's weight diagnosis, sex, age, and provider training level. The percentages of correctly identified severely obese (90.2%), obese (77.0%), and overweight (42.0%) children were much higher than in previous retrospective chart reviews; however, less than 30% of children were referred for more i

OBJECTIVE: The Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Treatment Trial (IIHTT) was the first large, randomized study on the use of acetazolamide and weight loss for treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension-associated vision loss. The multicenter trial also examined a number of secondary outcomes. This review summarizes all available results of the study published in the literature since 2014.
BACKGROUND: Prior to the IIHTT, clinicians managed idiopathic intracranial hypertension based on data from small, unmasked trials, expert opinion, and clinical experience. Due to the lack of empiri

BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity are common health problems which increase the risk of developing several serious health conditions. The main difficulty in the management of weight-loss lies in its maintenance, once it is achieved. The aim of this study was to investigate whether a motivational intervention, together with current clinical practice, was more efficient than a traditional intervention, in the treatment of overweight and obesity and whether this intervention reduces cardiovascular risk factors associated with overweight and obesity.
METHODS: Multi-centre cluster randomized tria

PURPOSE: To quantify the impact of a commercial weight management program on weight change in obese patients with coronary heart disease.
METHODS: An observational, single-center pilot study in the Netherlands. Forty-five patients diagnosed with a recent acute coronary syndrome and a body mass index of >30 kg/m2 were recruited. The commercial weight management intervention (Weight Watchers) promotes a hypoenergetic and balanced diet, increased physical activity, and group support. The program included weekly 30-minute in-hospital meetings with an experienced coach. The program was offered in

In a retrospective analysis of 34,449 adults using an unsubsidized, tirzepatide-supported digital weight loss service (DWLS) in Australia, patients entering via peer referral showed higher 6-month program adherence and greater percentage weight loss than propensity score-matched nonreferred patients, suggesting that peer referral pathways may support retention and effectiveness in medicated obesity care.

AIMS: Excess weight is associated with adverse health and economic disadvantage. Observational studies suggest that people with obesity are less likely to be employed and have lower income, potentially from workplace discrimination. This study examined whether weight loss achieved through a structured, dietitian-supported program improved financial outcomes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: An employment questionnaire was embedded within a clinical trial conducted between 2015 and 2019, investigating the effect of dietary supplements on metabolic health in otherwise healthy adults with prediabetes and

Online behavioral weight management programs offer a scalable solution to address overweight and obesity but often face high dropout rates and variable success. Understanding the barriers and facilitators experienced by participants who achieve weight loss targets versus those who do not is critical for optimizing programs. This study compared the barriers and facilitators reported by participants achieving ≥5% weight loss with those achieving <5%, using a social-ecological framework to capture influences across individual, interpersonal, and environmental levels. The framework was chosen to r

BACKGROUND: Low circulating testosterone and reduced sexual activity are common in men with obstructive sleep apnea.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of an interdisciplinary weight loss and lifestyle intervention on circulating testosterone concentrations and, secondarily, on scores on the intimate relationships and sexual activity subdomain of the Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire (FOSQ).
METHODS: Eighty-nine men were assigned to either usual care (n = 49) or an 8-week interdisciplinary intervention (n = 40). Assessments were conducted at baseline, at the end of the intervention

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a highly prevalent chronic disease with a significant and complex impact on reproduction. National guidelines recommend weight loss prior to pregnancy for patients with obesity to mitigate complications and increase fertility; however, targeted, personalized interventions are limited. The objectives of this study are to describe the implementation of a multidisciplinary program designed specifically for women with reproductive disorders and obesity and to report differences in baseline characteristics and weight loss outcomes between women willing vs. not willing to defe

BACKGROUND: Most of the worldwide population is overweight and suffers from the resulting musculoskeletal comorbidities such as knee osteoarthritis or back pain. Practice guidelines recommend weight loss interventions for individuals suffering from these conditions. This systematic review investigated whether including a weight loss intervention in the musculoskeletal therapy of these individuals was cost-effective compared to administering the musculoskeletal therapy alone.
METHODS: This study followed the PRISMA guidelines to systematically and independently search six databases and select
