Transforming Direct Care Jobs, Reimagining Long-Term Services and Supports.

The diverse array of individuals who receive long-term services and supports share one common experience, which is the need for assistance with personal care and/or other daily activities. The direct care workers (including nursing assistants, home health aides, and personal care aides) who provide this assistance play a critical role in keeping individuals safe, supporting their health and well-being, and helping prevent adverse outcomes. Yet despite decades of research, advocacy, and incremental policy and practice reform, direct care workers remain inadequately compensated, supported, and r

[Nursing Through a Gender Lens: Career Challenges and Development Opportunities for Male Nurses].

Men remain a significant minority in the nursing workforce, which not only influences workforce dynamics but also patient care preferences, professional representation, and gender diversity. This review was conducted to synthesize the relevant literature and examine male nurses' motivations to enter nursing, their career expectations, their career challenges, and directions for career support within the cultural and practice contexts of Taiwan. The findings show that men often choose nursing based on perceived job stability, altruistic values, opportunities for professional achievement, and fi

Why Public Health Nurses Matter: Bringing Specialized Knowledge and Skills to Advancing Health Equity.

Research is needed to better understand how public health nurses (PHNs) contribute to promoting health equity in communities. Our study aimed to fill this gap by exploring what activities PHNs describe they undertake in advancing health equity as well as examining their skills, proficiencies, and training needs specific to health equity work. We collected qualitative data via interviews with 18 PHNs across the US and developed major themes using a thematic analysis approach. We also analyzed quantitative survey data to compare health equity competencies among PHNs versus non-PHNs in local heal

Generational diversity among postgraduate doctors in training in the NHS: protocol for a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: The concept of generations and generational diversity in the workplace is a widely discussed phenomenon in popular culture, organisational articles and research studies. A number of non-medical and medical organisations have attempted to identify generational differences among their workforces and devise solutions to overcome this. The impact of generational differences among the medical workforce, specifically postgraduate doctors-in-training (PGDiTs), in the National Health Service (NHS) has not been studied. METHOD AND ANALYSIS: This qualitative study will use a pragmatic stu

The Surgical and Anesthesia Workforce and Provision of Surgical Services in Rural Communities: A Mixed-Methods Examination.

PURPOSE: Rural-urban disparities in the surgical and anesthesia workforce exist. This mixed-methods study describes the distribution of the surgical and anesthesia workforce and qualitatively explores how such workforce and other factors influence rural hospitals' provision of surgical services. METHODS: We calculated provider counts by county from the Area Health Resource File. Using American Hospital Association survey data, we sampled rural hospitals, stratified by critical access status and state policies. We conducted qualitative semistructured interviews with administrators at 16 hospit

Older Worker's Job Search Activities and Employment Transition.

This study investigated job search patterns among American older workers. Data from the 2016-2018 Health and Retirement Study included 1501 individuals aged 50+ who were looking for jobs in 2016. Latent Class Analysis (LCA) was conducted to identify job search patterns based on nine types of job search activities. Multinomial logistic regression was then used to examine membership in each class. Five job search patterns emerged from the LCA analysis, including No Ads, Ads only, Friends & Ads, Phone & Ads, and Agencies & Ads. Employment transitions were related to job search patterns. Artificial Intelligence to Promote Racial and Ethnic Cardiovascular Health Equity.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine holds promise for transformative advancements aimed at improving healthcare outcomes. Amidst this promise, AI has been envisioned as a tool to detect and mitigate racial and ethnic inequity known to plague current cardiovascular care. However, this enthusiasm is dampened by the recognition that AI itself can harbor and propagate biases, necessitating a careful approach to ensure equity. This review highlights topics in the landscape of AI in cardiology, its role in identifying and addressing healthcare inequities, p

Discovery Research on the Success Factors for Schools-Based Multiple Model Speech and Language Placements: A Rapid Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Demand for children's speech and language therapy (SLT) services has surged globally, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and workforce shortages. In England, waiting lists remain extensive, with over 66 000 children awaiting intervention in early 2025. Delayed access to SLT services is linked to poorer academic, social, and health outcomes. Innovative approaches are urgently needed to address these challenges. Embedding SLT student placements within schools offers a potential solution, simultaneously enhancing service capacity and providing authentic learning experiences. Interna

Workforce Implications of Increased Referrals to Hereditary Cancer Services in Canada: A Scenario-Based Analysis.

Over the last decade, utilization of clinical genetics services has grown rapidly, putting increasing pressure on the workforce available to deliver genetic healthcare. To highlight the policy challenges facing Canadian health systems, a needs-based workforce requirements model was developed to determine the number of Canadian patients in 2030 for whom an assessment of hereditary cancer risk would be indicated according to current standards and the numbers of genetic counsellors, clinical geneticists and other physicians with expertise in genetics needed to provide care under a diverse set of
