An endophytic fungus was isolated from the rhizomes of Curcuma amada (Zingiberaceae), which was identified as Fusarium oxysporum on the basis of its morphological and molecular characters. Chromatographic separation and spectroscopic analysis of the fungal metabolite (chloroform extract) led to the identification of one pure compound having molecular formula C5H12O2, i.e., 2,3-pentanediol (1). Activity analysis of compound 1 demonstrated improved antiaging (antioxidant, thermotolerance) properties against Caenorhabditis elegans, in comparison to a similar, commercially available molecule i.e.,

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most frequent cancer type in the male population over 66 years. Curcumin is a polyphenolic natural compound extract from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa Linn (Zingiberaceae family) which showed important anticancer effects by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in several cancer types. Recently, some studies reported that oral curcumin lowered PSA levels, but it did not modify the clinical outcomes in patients with prostate cancer who received intermittent androgen deprivation (IAD). Other studies reported that high concentrations

Zebrafish larvae have been widely used in neuroscience and drug research and development. In the larval stage, zebrafish present a broad behavioral repertoire and physiological responses similar to adults. Curcumin (CUR), a major component of Curcuma longa L. (Zingiberaceae), has demonstrated the ability to modulate several neurobiological processes relevant to mental disorders in animal models. However, the low bioavailability of this compound can compromise its in vivo biological potential. Interestingly, it has been shown that micronization can increase the biological effects of several com

Bioassay-guided fractionation was conducted on dichloromethane extract from the rhizomes of Globba schomburgkii Hook.f., which have previously been reported as the part with the highest antibacterial activity. 10 fractions and 20 sub-fractions were obtained and evaluated for their potency against various strains of bacteria. The most active sub-fractions were 8 times more effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Micrococcus luteus than the original crude extract. Moreover, two pure compounds, namely petasol and (E)-15,16-dinorlabda-8(17),11-dien-13-one, were successfully isolated and charac

Liver fibrosis is a pathological outcome of chronic liver injury and is primarily driven by the continuous activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). During activation, HSCs depend on aerobic glycolysis to maintain their fibrogenic characteristics, suggesting that metabolic reprogramming could serve as an effective therapeutic approach. In this study, we demonstrate that Curcumol, a natural compound derived from plants in the Zingiberaceae family, selectively removes activated HSCs by interfering with the lactate-KAT8-HK2 regulatory pathway. In HSCs, lactate produced through glycolysis activ

In this work, Curcuma longa L. extract has been used in the synthesis and direct coating of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles ~12 nm, providing a surface layer of polyphenol groups (-OH and -COOH). This contributes to the development of nanocarriers and triggers different bio-applications. Curcuma longa L. is part of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae); the extracts of this plant contain a polyphenol structure compound, and it has an affinity to be linked to Fe ions. The nanoparticles' magnetization obtained corresponded to close hysteresis loop Ms = 8.81 emu/g, coercive field Hc = 26.67 Oe, and l

A phytochemical investigation of the rhizomes of Kaempferia minuta led to the isolation of eleven diterpenoids, including three new compounds, designated minutins A-C (1-3). Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses (IR, HRESIMS, 1D/2D NMR) together with electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Notably, minutin B (2) is a 3-methylisopimarane, a relatively uncommon class of diterpenoids. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory potential through inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW

The natural polyphenol, calebin-A, was recently discovered and identified as a novel phytopharmaceutical with anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and antiproliferative properties. Calebin-A occurs naturally in trace quantities in Curcuma longa/C cassia, commonly known as turmeric, from the Zingiberaceae family. Calebin-A is a curcumin analog or 'chemical cousin' of curcumin with a similar chemical structure. Although few research studies have been conducted on the pharmacological and therapeutic properties of calebin-A, it is a very promising molecule with a variety of pharmacological properties. S

Alpinia zerumbet is a plant from the Zingiberaceae family, popularly used for hypertension treatment. Several studies have demonstrated Alpinia zerumbet vasodilator effect on conductance vessels but not on resistance vessels. Thereby, the aim of this study was to verify the vasodilator effect of the essential oil of Alpinia zerumbet (EOAz) on isolated rat resistance arteries and characterize its mechanism of action. Therefore, the effect of EOAz (3 to 3000 μg/mL) was verified in second-order branches of the mesenteric artery (SOBMA) pre-contracted by KCl and U46619. To study the mechanism of a
