The content of alpha-macroglobulin associated with pregnancy, alpha2-glycoprotein, alpha1-antitripsin, and lactolerrin in blood serum of pregnant women and umbilical serum under hydramnion and risk of development of intrauterine infection of fetus is investigated. It is demonstrated that in case ofpresence in blood of pregnant woman of G-antibodies to C. trachomatis under low titers (1:20, 1:40) the increase of levels of alpha-macroglobulin, alpha2-glycoprotein, al-antitripsin and especially of lactoferrin in serum of pregnant women testifies the high risk of presence of intrauterine infection

BACKGROUND: We performed a discovery phase of urinary proteomic profile in children with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome and validated selected biomarkers.
METHODS: Urinary proteomic profile was performed using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation labeling, coupled with liquid chromatography-matrix assisted laser desorption and ionization analysis. Serum zinc, albumin, alpha 2-macroglobulin, calcium, and magnesium were measured in 39 jejuno-ileal shunt-operated patients. The binding of serum zinc to albumin and alpha 2-macroglobulin were calculated. The results demonstrate that the patients as a group had a highly significant hypozincaemia (P less than 0.001), caused by a reduction of the albumin-bound serum zinc (P less than 0.001). A number of the kallikrein-kinin system parameters (kallikrein, prekallikrein, total arginine esterase activity, alpha 1 protease inhibitor, and alpha 2 macroglobulin) were measured in 59 patients with erythematous erysipelas and in 51 ones with hemorrhagic erysipelas over the course of the disease. Marked activation of the blood kallikrein-kinin system was seen in all the patients during the initial period of the disease, manifesting by elevated levels of kallikrein, total arginine esterase activity, alpha 1 protease inhibitor, alpha 2 macroglobulin, and a lowered prekallikrein concentration.

Serum levels of albumin, transferrin, alpha(2)-macroglobulin, beta(1)C/beta(1)A, IgA, IgG, and IgM have been determined in 73 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis and in age- and sex-matched controls. Plasminogen, alpha 2-antiplasmin, alpha 2-macroglobulin, alpha 1-antitrypsin and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) were studied in 45 patients with Argentine hemorrhagic fever. Patients were grouped into: 17 mild, 14 moderate and 14 severe cases. Plasminogen antigen level and functional activity were found to be reduced in the moderate and severe groups, when compared to the results obtained at recovery. The functional activity of alpha 2-antiplasmin was within the normal range, except for a slight decrease on days 10-11, alpha 2-macroglobulin remained normal during the course of illness.
