Improved oral health of schoolchildren of 16 communities after 8 years of prevention. II. Findings in different types of caries predilection sites.

Details of the decrease of DMT experience from 1963/64 to 1971/72 attained with the aide of the "Caries-Preventive Program" in 16 communities were investigated. The number of extracted molars decreased sharply, while the number of extracted premolars increased slightly. These shifts and a slightly later eruption of premolars did not materially affect the validity of overall DMF counts. Findings in first molars indicated long-term persistence of the lowered DMF experience. Fissure and pit caries of molars was reduced by 24 to 27 percent. Caries on free smooth surfaces of molars and on approxima

Child oral health and preventive dental service access among children with intellectual disabilities, autism and other educational additional support needs: A population-based record linkage cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Inequalities in child oral health are a global challenge and the intersection of socioeconomic factors with educational additional support needs (ASN), including children with intellectual disabilities or autism, have thus far received limited attention in relatively small clinical studies. We aimed to address this evidence gap by investigating oral health and access to preventive dental services among children with ASN compared to the general child population. METHODS: Cohort study linking data from six Scotland-wide health and education databases compared: dental caries experienc

Quantitative analysis of the effects of brushing, flossing, and mouthrinsing on supragingival and subgingival plaque microbiota: 12-week clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Translational microbiome research using next-generation DNA sequencing is challenging due to the semi-qualitative nature of relative abundance data. A novel method for quantitative analysis was applied in this 12-week clinical trial to understand the mechanical vs. chemotherapeutic actions of brushing, flossing, and mouthrinsing against the supragingival dental plaque microbiome. Enumeration of viable bacteria using vPCR was also applied on supragingival plaque for validation and on subgingival plaque to evaluate interventional effects below the gingival margin. METHODS: Subjects
