OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the features and choice of surgical strategy in patients with gastrointestinal fistula based on classification of their types.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 398 patients with gastrointestinal fistula. Fistula type 1 was found in 126 (31.7%) cases, type 2 - 38 (9.6%) cases, type 3 - 73 (18.3%) cases, type 4 - 26 (6.5%) patients, type 5 - 135 (33.9%) cases. One-stage and two-stage treatment was applied in patients with fistula type 1, two-stage treatment only - for fistula type 2. OBJECTIVE: Rates of death due to homicide, suicide and overdose during pregnancy and the first year postpartum have increased substantially in the USA in recent years. The aims of this study were to use 2018-2019 data on deaths identified for review by the North Carolina Maternal Mortality Review Committee (NC-MMRC), data from the North Carolina Violent Death Reporting System (NC-VDRS) and data from the Statewide Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (NC-SUDORS) to examine homicide, suicide and unintentional opioid-involved overdose deaths during pregnancy and the first year postpartum.

Not much is known about the perpetrators of male homicide in South Africa, which has rates seven times the global average. For the country's first ever male homicide study we describe the epidemiology of perpetrators, their relationship with victims and victim profiles of men killed by male versus female perpetrators. We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of routine data collected through forensic and police investigations, calculating victim and perpetrator homicide rates by age, sex, race, external cause, employment status and setting, stratified by victim-perpetrator relationships.
