Coronary artery disease is associated with multiple genetic and environmental risk factors. With the variety of radiopharmaceutical agents and refined imaging techniques, thyroid and parathyroid imaging provides much valuable clinical information. The use of imaging is most important in the follow-up of differentiated (DTC) and medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). Patients with DTC are followed with serum thyroidglobulin and 131I whole body scintigraphy when the serum thyroglobulin level is elevated. AIM: Differentiated thyroid cancer is characterized by a very good prognosis in the majority of the patients. The therapy of choice is surgery followed by ablation with Iodine-131 (I-131). However, some patients have metastases that have lost the capability of concentrating I-131, even when it is given in therapeutic doses. The kinetics, intracellular distribution and effects of ion transport inhibitors on the uptake of 99Tcm-tetrofosmin, 99Tcm-methoxyisobutyl isonitrile (99Tcm-MIBI) and 201Tl were investigated in a tumour cell line.
