A new method has been developed to prepare horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugates using bis(sulfosuccinimidyl)suberate (BS3) as cross-linking reagent in a two-step procedure. The enzyme is reacted with BS3, introducing active ester molecules into the enzyme itself, and it is then used directly to label amino-containing compounds without further treatment. The proteins involved in the conjugation undergo minimal modifications. The study evaluated tuberculosis specific antigen (TB-SA) antibody in lymphocyte supernatant (ALS) assay for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). The mean concentration of TB-SA ALS in PTB patients was significantly higher than that of two control groups (non-PTB patients and healthy subjects, P < 0.001). In this study, we estimated the CD4+, CD8+, CD3+ cell counts and the CD4/CD8 ratio among normal healthy controls (adults and children), leprosy patients (without any complications and during reactional states), TB patients (with and without HIV), and HIV-positive patients (early infection and full-blown AIDS) and correlated the changes with disease progression. The present study explores the possible connection between synovial fluid concentrations of insulin like growth factor (IGF-1), IGF-binding protein (IGFBP-3), leptin, and C-reactive protein (CRP) in osteoarthritis (OA). Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a challenging diagnosis characterized by the absence of real specific diagnostic markers. Positivity with the galectin-3 antibody was assessed by a cytoplasmic expression in 17 MPM. Fourteen cases expressed the galectin-3 antibody. The three negative cases consisted of epithelioid, biphasic, and sarcomatoid MPM. Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is, which a chronic, autoimmune liver disease. Some patients have antinuclear antibodies anti-Sp100, which are considered to be disease-specific. We compared an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) for detection of anti-Sp100. In this study, a chromatographic method was applied to determine the amount of defensin HNP-1 in human saliva of patients with oral mucosal diseases before and after treatments and compared with controls. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the cross-reactivity of anti-EV71 IgM and neutralizing antibody in series sera of patients infected with EV71 and CA16.
METHODS: Real-time RT-PCR, virus isolation, ELISA and neutralization test were used to detect enteroviruses from clinical specimens and series sera of 79 HFMD patients.
