Crystalline nephropathies are a unique form of kidney disease characterized by the histologic finding of intrarenal crystal deposition. The intrinsic nature of some molecules and ions combined with a favorable tubular fluid physiology leads to crystal precipitation and deposition within the tubular lumens. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a clinical syndrome with multiple entities. Although AKI implies renal damage, functional impairment or both, diagnosis is solely based on the functional parameters of serum creatinine and urine output. We report a 58-year-old male patient with acute kidney injury (AKI), who eventually developed anuria secondary to acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN) following acute pyelonephritis.
