INTRODUCTION: A study was performed to determine which patients' characteristics before tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) for stress incontinence are predictive of a failed outcome.
METHODS: A prospective cohort of 305 women with urinary stress incontinence underwent a TVT procedure in a teaching hospital. TVT was considered successful when the patient was fully satisfied and no leakage was seen at the standardized stress test. Logistic regression analysis examined the relationship between outcome and 32 pre-, intra-, and postoperative patient characteristics. All operations were done by traine

PURPOSE: We evaluated mid urethral sling outcomes in overweight and obese patients compared to normal weight patients and identified risk factors for failure in this population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records of 688 women between January 2004 and July 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients received urodynamic studies, 1-hour pad test, Urogenital Distress Inventory-6 and Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-7, and were divided into normal weight, overweight and obese. Objective cure at 1 year was defined as no involuntary urine leakage during filling cystometry and pad test less than 2 gm.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the trend in surgical management of male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in the context of the rate of radical prostatectomy (RP) as reported by a national database. Traditionally, the artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) has been the gold standard, but the male sling represents a newer and popular alternative. Refinements in prostate surgery may reduce the incidence and degree of subsequent SUI.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional analysis was performed using the National Inpatient Survey database, which captures discharge data from inpatient and ov

OBJECTIVE: To construct and validate models that predict a patient's risk of developing stress and urgency urinary incontinence and adverse events 12 months after sling surgery.
METHODS: This was a secondary analysis of four randomized trials. Twenty-five candidate predictors (patient characteristics and urodynamic variables) were identified from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Trial of Mid-Urethral Slings (N=597). Multiple logistic models were fit to predict four different outcomes: 1) bothersome stress urinary incontinence; 2) a positive stress test; 3)

AIM: The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical and ultrasonographic findings of women who had three-dimensional endovaginal ultrasound (EVUS) for the management of vaginal mesh complications.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of patients that had EVUS due to mesh complications at a tertiary care center. The clinical charts were reviewed. The stored 3D volumes were reviewed regarding mesh information by two examiners independently. The predictive value of physical examination for detection of vaginal mesh was calculated. Patient outcomes were reviewed.
RESULTS: Seventy

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Mesh used for slings and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair has resulted in increased efficacy. Yet, the benefits of a more durable repair must be weighed against such risks as vaginal mesh extrusion and erosion and increased dyspareunia, and pelvic pain. We review the current literature on complications seen with the use of vaginal mesh for both stress urinary incontinence and POP.
RECENT FINDINGS: The use of mesh in midurethral slings results in similar efficacy but less morbidity compared with nonmesh sling techniques. The use of mesh in abdominal sacrocolpopexy may resu

BACKGROUND: Voiding dysfunction (VD) is a potential complication after female midurethral sling operations.
OBJECTIVES: Our goal was to assess the rate of obstructive VD after -transobturator tension-free tape (TOT) procedures and to find perioperative risk factors (RFs) predicting postoperative voiding problems.
METHODS: We have retrospectively evaluated the perioperative data of 397 women who underwent TOT operations. Significant post-void residual (PVR) (>50 mL) was considered as the primary (objective) end point of the study, the voiding difficulty as the secondary (subjective) 1. First

OBJECTIVE: Overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms are frequently associated with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and both postoperative improvement and de novo onset of OAB symptoms have been described. The aim of the study is to identify risk factors for persistent, de novo and overall postoperative OAB after POP repair.
STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective study including patients who underwent primary POP surgery. Medical interview, urogenital examination and urodynamics were performed preoperatively; patients were examined one and six months after surgery and then yearly.
RESULTS: 518 patients

OBJECTIVE: Evidence of surgical cure with tension free vaginal tape (TVT) is robust for isolated stress urinary incontinence, but rigorous studies investigating combined prolapse and incontinence are lacking. Our study measured cure of stress incontinence in concomitant robotic sacrocolpopexy and retropubic sling (TVT). We hypothesized a higher rate of objective failure as measured by the cough stress test (CST) compared to failures reported in recent randomized trials of TVT in patients without prolapse (aggregate 8% failure).
METHODS: Prospective cohort of patients with stress incontinence

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Cystotomy is one of the most common complications of retropubic midurethral sling placement. Some centers manage cystotomy with prolonged catheter drainage, and there are few published studies evaluating this practice. The purpose of this study is to review postoperative outcomes of patients who experienced cystotomy at the time of sling placement and did not undergo prolonged catheter drainage.
METHODS: This is a retrospective review of all patients undergoing midurethral sling placement complicated by a cystotomy at the University of Rochester between 2004 and 2

As a key area of gynaecology, urogynaecology has undergone impressive changes in the past few years. Together with the high prevalence of functional pelvic floor disorders, modern anaesthesia procedures and the introduction of new, innovative minimally invasive operation techniques have led to a dramatic increase in the number of operations for incontinence and prolapses. The increasingly subtle diagnostic options, such as, e. g., 2D and 3D sonography of the pelvic floor provide unambiguous findings and facilitate decision making.
