Cutaneous involvement in severe carpal tunnel syndrome is secondary to damage to sensory and autonomic fibers of the median nerve. We report the case of a 63 year old man who presented skin and bone lesions, confined to the sensory zones of both median nerves. The lesions consisted of dystrophic modifications of the fingernails, progressive sclerosis, skin thickening and ulcerations on the fingers, acro-osteolysis, and purulent inflammation with subsequent auto-amputation of the distal phalanx of the right index finger. Clinical, neurophysiological and surgical findings are reported. The recov

Haim-Munk syndrome is an extremely rare autosomal recessive disorder of keratinization characterized clinically by palmoplantar hyperkeratosis, severe early onset periodontitis, onychogryphosis, pes planus, arachnodactyly, and acro-osteolysis. Recently, germline mutations in the lysosomal protease cathepsin C gene have been identified as the underlying genetic defect in Haim-Munk syndrome and in the clinically related disorders, such as Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome and prepubertal periodontitis. The periodontal disease associated with these syndromes is particularly aggressive and unresponsive to

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome is an extremely rare disorder characterized by progressive skeletal acro-osteolysis, which results in extremity fractures and scoliosis often requiring surgical treatment from childhood. A unique facial structure and deformity of the cervical spine is associated with a difficult airway. We report here a 10-year-old girl with Hajdu-Cheney syndrome who developed progressive basilar impression and medullary compression for which foramen magnum decompression was performed. After slow induction of anesthesia, we were able to perform fiberoptic orotracheal intubation via a VBM

BACKGROUND: Skin tightness is a hallmark of systemic sclerosis (SSc), and the fingers are an affected body part, so much so that fingerprints can be significantly affected among those with extensive skin tightness of the finger.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to compare the difference between the current and past (pre-disease onset) fingerprints of SSc patients.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study among adult SSc patients who attended the Scleroderma Clinic, Khon Kaen University, between October 2019, and September 2020. All eligible patients consented to obtaining their current and previous

Pycnodysostosis is a rare autosomal recessive bone disorder caused by mutations in the cathepsin K (CTSK) gene, characterized by increased bone density, short stature, and skeletal fragility. This study reports on two siblings from a consanguineous marriage, observed at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda, Morocco. Both patients presented with typical symptoms, including craniofacial dysmorphism and skeletal abnormalities. Radiographic findings confirmed increased bone density and acro-osteolysis. The cases highlight the importance of early and accurate diagnosis, comprehensive manage

We describe a systemic sclerosis and cerebral vascular accident case in which the cutaneous manifestation and the distal acroosteolysis occurred in an asymmetrical way in the non-paretic limb. The subsequent sclerodermic alterations and the acroosteolysis acquired an asymmetric pattern, sparing the patient's hemiparetic side. Although a number of definitions of this protective effect may be found in other rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout, we found in the literature only one previous case describing the protective effect of the hemiplegia in scleroderma.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS) is a rare disorder principally characterized by acro-osteolysis, distinctive craniofacial and skull changes, dental anomalies and short stature. A common finding in HCS patients is secondary osteoporosis that progresses over time and contributes to various skeletal problems, especially fractures. Although autosomal dominant inheritance has been documented in several families, sporadic (non-familial) cases have also been reported. Here, a case of a 9-year-old girl with familial HCS and multiple spinal fractures, who has been effectively treated with pamidronate, is p

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS) also known as Cranio-skeletal dysplasia is a rare genetic disorder of bone metabolism. It is mainly characterized by acro-osteolysis and generalized osteoporosis. The other distinctive features include a dysmorphic face, short stature, aplasia of facial sinuses, and persistent cranial sutures. Although the condition begins to manifest since birth, the characteristic features become more prominent with age. This syndrome is usually recognized by dentists due to these craniofacial abnormalities. This case report aims to highlight a case of 6-year-old girl HCS who pres

Pathogenic-activating variants of interferon induced with Helicase C domain 1 (IFIH1) cause Singleton-Merten (S-M) syndrome, which accompanies acro-osteolysis, loss of permanent teeth, and aortic calcification, as well as causing Aicardi-Goutières (A-G) syndrome, which shows progressive encephalopathy, spastic paraplegia, and calcification of basal ganglia. Recently, patients with overlapping syndromes presenting with features of S-M syndrome and A-G syndrome were reported. However, progression of clinical features of this condition has not been fully understood. We report a Japanese boy with

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome is a very rare connective tissue disorder. It has autosomal dominant inheritance or may occur due to spontaneous de novo mutation. Recent research suggests that it is caused by heterozygous mutation of terminal exon of NOTCH 2. Most characteristic findings include transverse band of acro-osteolysis involving the phalanges of both hands and feet and osteoporosis and deformities involving skull, mandible, spine and other bones. Patient may progressively develop kyphoscoliosis, basilar invagination, and bone fractures due to bone softening. Treatment is symptomatic. In this

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS) is an exceedingly rare connective tissue disorder primarily manifested by skeletal abnormalities including acro-osteolysis, severe osseous demineralization, distinctive craniofacial/dental abnormalities, and short stature. The syndrome is caused by gain-of-function mutations in the NOTCH2 gene, which disrupt bone remodeling and connective tissue integrity. While hearing loss is a known clinical manifestation of HCS, specific imaging findings have not been reported. We present the case of a 36-year-old man with HCS who underwent high-resolution CT of the temporal bon

Hand impairment is a frequently reported complaint in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients and a leading cause of disability and diminished quality of life. Managing hand pain can be particularly challenging due to the coexistence of non-inflammatory arthralgias, inflammatory arthritis, acro-osteolysis, tenosynovitis, joint contractures, tendon friction rubs, nerve entrapment, Raynaud's phenomenon (RP), digital ulcers (DU), sclerodactyly, calcinosis, and chronic pain. While physical examination and radiographs are the first line methods for evaluating hand pain, they are limited in scope and miss

Pycnodysostosis refers to an uncommon autosomal recessive developmental anomaly, which results in decreased bone remodeling, manifesting itself in a variety of clinical and radiographic displays. We report two cases involving two sisters aged 12.5 and 8 years old from a consanguineous marriage. Both presented with distinctive manifestations of the syndrome and were observed at the Dental Consultation and Treatment Center of Ibn Sina Hospital in Rabat. They presented pathognomonic features of the disorder, including short stature, beaked nose, brachydactyly, obtuse mandibular gonial angle and a

Pycnodysostosis is a rare autosomal recessive disorder whose gene responsible for this phenotype (CTSK), mapped to human chromosome 1q21, code for the enzyme cathepsin K, a lysosomal cysteine protease; with an estimated incidence of 1.7 per 1 million births. This clinical entity includes micromelic dwarfism, increased radiological bone density, dysplasia of the skull, acro-osteolysis, straightening of the mandibular angle and in some cases, dysplasia of the acromial end of the clavicle. Oral and maxillo-facial manifestations of this disease are very clear. Herein we reported a case of pycnodys
