Adenomas, although the most common benign tumors in the middle ear, are of low incidence. They may arise in a previously normal adult ear, causing a conductive deafness and later an aural discharge. Histologic definition may be difficult in these tumors, which are assumed to arise from middle ear epithelium. Fairly extensive surgery may be required for their eradication. Two cases are described.

Seventy-four patients with pituitary adenoma were treated by surgery, including 51 transsphenoidal and 23 transcranial approaches, without death, postoperative leakage of CSF and early-period intracranial infection. Many patients had a transient diabetes insipidus after operation. In discussion we attended the difference of attacking age of pituitary adenoma between male and female, the significances of CT and MRI as well as the indication and the important points of various approaches.

We report the case of a 13 year-old white teenager who was referred for chronic bone pain. Physical examination showed a swelling of the anterior part of the neck and biological findings clearly evoked a primary hyperparathyroidism. The surgical treatment was successful and confirmed the diagnosis of parathyroid adenoma. Primary hyperparathyroidism being unusual in childhood, the eventuality of a multiple endocrine neoplasia is discussed.

Adenomas and adenocarcinomas originating from the middle ear are few in number and have met with significant controversy in the literature. Our experience with 11 previously described patients is updated and five new cases are added. These tumors were seen in persons whose ages ranged from 7 to 77 years. The most common initial symptom was decreased hearing (11 cases), followed by otorrhea (4 cases), and otalgia (4 cases). Bleeding, obstruction and invagination are the common symptoms of large polyps in the duodenal bulb. We present 2 patients with a large ulcerated Brunner's gland adenoma. The clinical findings were acute bleeding and nonspecific upper gastrointestinal symptoms. The treatment was surgical due to a suspect histological finding in one case, a thick stalk in the other, and the fact that endoscopic polypectomy is a much higher risk procedure in the duodenum than in the colon.

A unique primary placental tumor, designated "hepatocellular adenoma of the placenta," is reported. The tumor was composed of cells resembling fetal hepatocytes. The hepatocellular nature of the tumor cells was supported by ultrastructural and immunohistochemical findings. Histogenetically, this tumor most likely represents a highly specialized monodermal teratoma.

Villous adenoma may have a specific appearance on barium enema examination but specific CT findings of villous adenoma have not been previously described. Two recently encountered cases of villous adenoma in the rectum had a distinctive pattern on CT. A retrospective study of 134 patients with a clinical diagnosis of fibro-adenoma of the breast indicated that histological confirmation of this diagnosis is made in only 50 per cent. The majority of the others have a diagnosis of benign mammary dysplasia. Eight patients had an unsuspected carcinoma, all but one being above the mean age for the fibro-adenoma group. We report a case of nephrogenic adenoma in the left ureter. The patient presented with lumbago on the left side. A small calculus was incarcerated in the left ureter 4 cm. from the ureteropelvic junction and an adenoma, which resembled histologically the renal tubules, was observed in the ureter. A search of the world medical literature revealed 58 cases of nephrogenic adenoma, although only 1 case in the ureter has been reported previously.

A woman, who presented with symptoms of unilateral Ménière's disease, was found to have an adenoma of the endolymphatic sac, when an endolymphatic sac decompression was performed. Such a finding has not previously been reported. The possible role of the tumor in causing endolymphatic hydrops is discussed.
