PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic value of MR imaging and conventional contrast -enhanced MR imaging appearance in pleomorphic adenoma (PA) of the parotid gland.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed pre- and post-contrast MR images of pleomorphic adenoma with pathologic correlation in 17 cases (6 men and 11 women; median age, 50 years; range, 27-70 years) collected between 2005 and 2011 from our pathologic and radiologic database.
RESULTS: All of the tumors showed well-defined margins, and 12 patients with lobulations. The tumors in 16 patients had capsules. The average maximal diameter wa

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common tumor of the benign salivary gland neoplasms, and the most common gland to be involved is the parotid gland. Its occurrence in the submandibular or the sublingual gland is uncommon. We present a case of a histologically proven PA involving the submandiblular gland.

BACKGROUND: Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CXPA) is a malignant epithelial neoplasm arising in a benign mixed tumor (i.e., pleomorphic adenoma or PA); it accounts for approximately 3-4% of all salivary gland neoplasms. CXPA is exceedingly rare in the nasal cavity, with only three cases previously documented.
METHODS: We report two cases of women presenting with masses of the nasal cavity. The tumors were resected and evaluated grossly and by routine microscopy.
RESULTS: Both patients presented with nasal obstruction, and one patient reported epistaxis. Grossly, the tumors were 2.5 and 3 c

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA), a benign mixed salivary gland tumor, has been associated with abnormal karyotypes in up to 70% of cases, with nonrandom involvement of 8q12, the locus of the pleomorphic adenoma (PLAG1) gene. In this study, cytogenetics and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were used to investigate PLAG1 involvement in PA from seven patients. There were two males and five females ranging in age from 25 to 65 years. Samples of parotid gland tissue from the tumor sites, set up as solid tumor cultures, showed a normal karyotype in two cases [46,XY;46,XX] and cytogenetic abnormali

Myoepitheliomas are rare benign tumours of head and neck. The parotid gland is the most common site of origin. It consists on proliferation of myoepithelial cells and it shows some features similar to preomorphic adenoma although the ductal elements are very low. Diagnosis requires histology and immunohistochemistry because fine needle aspiration often shows erroneous results. Limited parotidectomy is the choice treatment. We report two cases of parotid gland myoepithelioma confirmed by immunohistochemistry.

European journal of surgical oncology : the journal of the European Society of Surgical Oncology and the British Association of Surgical Oncology1998eng
Three cases of metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma are described. All three had a history of incomplete surgery of the primary tumour and several surgical procedures for local recurrences before systemic metastases became apparent. The histology of the primary tumour, recurrences and metastases were typical of pleomorphic adenoma. In view of the lack of information in the literature, it is concluded that inadequate surgical procedures, such as incomplete surgery or enucleation, leading to multiple recurrences, appear to be a prerequisite for the development of systemic disease.

The case of a 41-year-old female is described wherein a minor salivary gland pleomorphic adenoma originating in the right retromolar area had extended into the infratemporal fossa and enlarged to 5 x 6 x 12 cm. The patient first became conscious of the mass as a slight swelling of the buccal mucosa when she was about 30 years of age, and the swelling since then had gradually gained in prominence. Preoperative computed tomography scan demonstrated a well-circumscribed mass occupying the right infratemporal fossa and medially displacing the pterygoid laminas. The mass was easily removed without

A pleomorphic Adenoma was found in the right side of the nasal septum of a 44-year-old female patient. After removal the pathologist's examination could diagnose the mass as a pleomorphic adenoma (mixed tumor) developed from ectopic salivary glands. Early symptoms were nasal obstruction and recurrent spontaneous epistaxis, sometimes preceded by local discomfort. Surgical removal. In this article are discussed some aspects of the these unusual tumors (sitting in the nasal cavity) and the AA. compare their findings with data reported by other publishers.

Immunohistochemical examinations of lacrimal gland specimens were carried out with monoclonal antibodies to S-100 protein and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in 3 cases of normal tissue, 2 cases of hypertrophy and 3 cases of pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland. In specimens of normal lacrimal gland tissue, S-100 protein was identified in myoepithelial cells and ductal epithelia, but GFAP was not identified in any part of the gland. In specimens of lacrimal gland hypertrophy, the findings were identical. In pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland, asteroid cells in the myxoid and

The metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma of the salivary glands is a rare variant of pleomorphic adenoma with a benign microscopical appearance, but malignant biological behaviour and production of metastasis. The histopathological study with the routine techniques is not enough for disclosing the nature of these tumors and they are most of the times underdiagnosed as benign. The correct diagnosis, almost always too late, is evident after several recurrences and the detection of metastatic foci. The number of nucleolar organizing regions (NORs) detected with the silver colloid method can be used

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA), the most common benign salivary gland tumor, is rarely found in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, particularly in pediatric patients. This report presents a case of PA in the nasal septum of a 14-year-old girl who presented with unilateral epistaxis and progressive nasal obstruction. The tumor was excised from the left anterior nasal septum via endoscopic sinus surgery, and PA was confirmed through histopathological examination. This case emphasizes the importance of including PA in the differential diagnosis of pediatric sinonasal masses, despite its rarity, an

Background: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most prevalent benign tumor of the salivary glands. While it primarily affects the parotid gland, it can also arise from minor salivary glands in the soft palate. Presentation: A case of a 28-year-old female who presented with a painless, slowly enlarging mass on the soft palate was reported. CT revealed a well-circumscribed lesion measuring 2.5 × 2.0 cm. Complete surgical excision was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma. Conclusion: Pleomorphic adenoma of the palate is an important entity to consider i

Pleomorphic adenomas (PA) are the most prevalent benign salivary gland neoplasms. They may occur at any age, with a peak incidence between 40 and 60 years of age. They are more commonly observed in females (60%). These tumors can arise in both the major and minor salivary glands. Approximately 80% of these tumors are diagnosed in the parotid gland, whereas 10% arise in the minor salivary glands, mainly affecting the palates, followed by the lips and cheeks. This report describes two cases of unusual lesions that were diagnosed as (PA) in the minor salivary glands in our department via a review

Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign tumor and the most common salivary gland neoplasm. Metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma shares histological characteristics with pleomorphic adenoma but exhibits malignant behavior, including local lymph node involvement and/or distant metastasis. Several potential risk factors for metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma have been identified, some of which are associated with incomplete tumor clearance due to inadequate surgical techniques used in the treatment of primary pleomorphic adenoma. Here, we present a rare case of metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma originating f
