Cellulose-based aerogels have been widely employed in flexible sensing applications. However, their inherent hydrophilicity and poor compressive toughness severely limit long-term stability in humid environments. To address this, a composite aerogel piezoresistive sensor with high elasticity, sensitivity, and moisture resistance was developed. Specifically, TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCN) served as the structural scaffold, and electrochemically exfoliated graphene (EG) was introduced as the conductive filler. An anisotropic layered porous architecture was constructed via bidirection

While silver halides (AgX) are promising visible-light photocatalysts for water remediation, their practical deployment is severely hindered by intrinsic photocorrosion, rapid charge recombination, and macroscopic recovery challenges. Here, we demonstrate a monolithic AgX/biomass carbon aerogel composite platform, constructed by anchoring AgX nanocrystals in situ onto a 3D hierarchical carbon skeleton. The carbon network not only suppresses nanoparticle aggregation but also plays contrasting optical roles: amplifying the intrinsic visible-light absorption of AgBr while endowing the otherwise U

Aramid nanofiber aerogels, derived from poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) nanofibers with impressive thermal stability and durability, have emerged as high-performance thermal insulators in harsh environments. However, they are plagued by ice-crystal-induced structural destruction during the freeze-drying process, significantly compromising the volume fraction of thermal barrier voids and limiting the breakthrough in adiabaticity. Here, we present a new ion-confined ice-templating strategy to spatially weaken ice crystal growth, constructing nanofiber aerogels with distinctive separated

The increasing demand for sustainable food packaging has generated interest in biodegradable carriers for bioactive chemicals. This study created porous aerogels from water caltrop starch (WCS) to encapsulate and regulate the release of epigallocatechin (EGC), a sensitive natural polyphenol. WCS aerogels with different EGC concentrations (0.6-2.5 g per 2.5 g starch) were produced using sol-gel processing and freeze-drying. Structural investigations (FTIR, XRD) suggested bonding interactions between WCS and EGC, which stabilized the polyphenol and affected crystallinity. Scanning electron micro

Rice-straw-derived cellulose nanofiber/lignin (CNF/lignin) aerogels were developed as microwave-passive insulating cores for reusable food-container walls. Cellulose and lignin co-recovered from Vietnamese rice straw were reassembled into aerogels containing 0-20 wt% lignin to define a practical formulation window for microwave-reheatable packaging. Moderate lignin addition preserved the cellulose I framework and improved the balance between pore-wall integrity, moisture tolerance, thermal insulation, and dielectric stability. Among the tested samples, CNF/L10 gave the best overall performance

Aerogels have garnered significant attention from the scientific community due to their extraordinary properties, including low density, high porosity, low thermal conductivity, and large surface area. These properties make them interesting candidates for diverse applications such as thermal insulation, drug delivery, catalysis, fillers, tissue engineering, and biosensors. However, the production of conventional aerogels is often constrained by environmental issues, the high cost of raw materials, and energy-intensive fabrication methods. In contrast, cellulose aerogels have emerged as promisi

This work reports an ethanol-mediated freeze-drying (EMFD) strategy that enables the scalable production of high-performance bacterial cellulose aerogels (BCAs), effectively addressing key limitations of conventional methods such as supercritical drying and standard freeze-drying, including fragility, low mechanical strength, and high cost. Specifically, by replacing water in bacterial cellulose hydrogels (BCHs) with ethanol-water solution (EWs) prior to freeze-drying, the process limits ice crystal formation and reduces capillary forces and adhesion, thereby preserving structural integrity an

The development of novel and eco-friendly wound dressings using biopolymers faces challenges related to their processing/sterilisation. Supercritical CO2 (scCO2) drying represents an efficient and sustainable solution, by enabling the production of sterilised materials with high surface area/porosity while preserving essential properties. This study introduces a novel integrated process for developing sterile chitosan (CS) aerogels crosslinked with tripolyphosphate (TPP) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The process combines high-pressure solvent exchange, scCO2 drying and sterilisation, with one a

Herein, MXene-based composite aerogel (MXene-Fe2+ aerogel) are constructed by a one-step freeze-drying method, using Ti3C2Tx MXene layers as substrate material and ferrous ion (Fe2+) as crosslinking agent. With the aid of the Fe2+ induced Fenton reaction, the synthesized aerogels are used as the particle electrodes to remove phenol from wastewater with three-dimensional electrode technology. Combined with the dual roles of Fe2+ and the highly conductive MXene, the obtained particle electrode possesses extremely effective phenol degradation. The effects of experiment parameters such as Fe2+ to

Indoor air pollution, predominantly caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs), poses significant health hazards when concentrations surpass critical thresholds. Using waste corn straw as carbon source and urea as nitrogen source, straw derived carbon aerogel (CAGH) loaded with g-C3N4H2O-N2-450-3 h was successfully prepared by hydrothermal and water-assisted calcination. Following water-assisted regulation, g-C3N4H2O-N2-450-3 h on CAGH exhibited a mixed structure comprising honeycomb and two-dimensional filaments, while the growth of g-C3N4H2O-N2-450-3 h was uniformly distributed on carbon ae

Facile and controllable integration of metal cyanides (MCs) into three-dimensional graphene (3DG) with advantageous structures is of fundamental importance for the development of superior MC-based electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage and catalysis. Here a facile and versatile spatially-confined Ostwald ripening strategy was developed to synthesize a series of 3DG wrapped MC aerogels with different compositions, size, and structure based on the chemical instability of MC in the reaction system. Remarkably, the integration of Prussian blue (PB) into 3DG, with such unique archit

Organic peroxides in foodstuffs like lipid hydroperoxides and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) have risks to human health, which need rapid and on-site determination. This study prepared hydrophobic and reductive fluorescent iodine-doping carbon dots (I-CDs) via a solvothermal strategy using oleylammonium iodide as the precursor. The I-CDs can be used as nanoprobes to rapidly and sensitively determine organic peroxides. Organic peroxides can oxidize the I-CDs to produce I2, which can efficiently quench their fluorescence through the inner filter effect. Furthermore, hydrophobic aerogels were prepared to

Herein, functionalized carbon aerogel microspheres (CAMs) were successfully prepared by the pyrolysis of resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) microspheres followed by surface modification. First, RF microspheres were carbonized to obtain CAMs. Afterward, the polyphenolic compound of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) was reacted with melamine to form a poly(EGCG) layer onto the CAM surface, followed by bonding the antiwear molecule dialkyl dithiophosphate (DDP) by the Michael addition, resulting in DDP-functionalized CAMs (DDP-CAMs). The grafting antiwear molecule DDP improved the lipophilicity of the CA

Lightweight, nanoporous aerogel fibers are crucial for personal thermal management and specialized heat protection. However, wet-spinning methods, exemplified by aramid aerogels, inevitably form a dense outer layer, significantly reducing the volume fraction of efficient thermal barrier nanovoids and limiting the development of ultimate thermal resistance in fibers. Herein, we develop a microfluidic spinning method to prepare gradient all-nanostructure aramid aerogel fibers (GAFs). Benefiting from the simultaneous shear alignment and diffusion dilution of a good solvent within the channels, th

Hemostats that can strongly adhere to wound tissue and are easy to remove when stopping bleeding are favored for the control of noncompressible hemorrhage. Here, we prepared a citric acid (CA)-crosslinked and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester-activated carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-NHS) aerogel for noncompressible hemostasis. CA was used to crosslink CMC to form a strengthened structure. NHS ester was introduced to activate the adhesion of CMC-NHS aerogel to wound tissue and promoted blood coagulation through the formation of amide crosslinks between CMC and erythrocytes and free blood proteins.

The fabrication of bioactive three-dimensional (3D) hydrogel scaffolds from biocompatible materials with a complex inner structure (mesoporous and macroporous) and highly interconnected porosity is crucial for bone tissue engineering (BTE). 3D-printing technology combined with aerogel processing allows the fabrication of functional nanostructured scaffolds from polysaccharides for BTE with personalized geometry, porosity and composition. However, these aerogels are usually fragile, with fast biodegradation rates in biological aqueous fluids, and they lack the sterility required for clinical pr

Herein, a simpler-viable methodology for the surface decoration of pear fruit derived graphene aerogel (GA) via cadmium sulfide (CdS) has been presented. GA can be easily synthesized from bio-mass, which provide an economic advantage. Surface decoration via CdS imparts photocatalytic activities in functionalized graphene aerogels (f-GA). CdS-f-GA is being explored here as a photocatalyst for the degradation of a toxic azo dye named Congo red in the presence of sunlight. The rate and mechanism associated with photodegradation were analyzed by performing kinetics and radical trap-based quenching
