Hepatic mRNA levels of the dio2 gene (deiodinase 2), implicated in thyroid hormone homeostasis, were analyzed in trout from six remote lakes in the Pyrenees (Spain) and the Tatra Mountains (Slovakia). Highest levels corresponded to fish from the two coldest lakes in Pyrenees, whereas relatively low levels were found in the Tatra lakes. TeBG and transcortin were identified in serum from adult male baboons. TeBG values were higher than the TeBG concentration in adult men. The relative competitive abilities of three natural steroids, a synthetic androgen and two synthetic estrogens, for binding sites on TeBG occupied by radioactive DHT were compared. This review highlights our investigations into the neuroprotective efficacy of estradiol and other estrogenic agents in a clinically relevant animal model of transient global ischemia, which causes selective, delayed death of hippocampal CA1 neurons and associated cognitive deficits. Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) are dioxin-like persistent organic pollutants that are primarily produced unintentionally during industrial thermal processes. The purpose of the present experiments was to define a non-major-histocompatibility-complex (MHC) endothelial antigen system in the rat and to study the genetics of these antigens as well as their significance in renal transplantation. The classic piebald mutation in the endothelin receptor type B (Ednrb) gene was found on rolling Nagoya genetic background (PROD-s/s) mice with white coat spotting.
