The drug anetholedithiolethione (ADT) and its analogs have been extensively used as H2S donors. However, the mechanism of H2S formation from ADT under biologic conditions remains almost completely unknown. In this study, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and methoxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (MeO-PBDEs) were analyzed in eleven freshwater fish species from Dianshan Lake, Shanghai, China. This paper describes the design and synthesis of compounds belonging to a novel class of highly selective mammalian CD13 inhibitors. Racemic homologues of 3-amino-2-tetralone 1 were synthesised and evaluated for their ability to selectively inhibit the membrane-bound, zinc-dependent aminopeptidase-N/CD13 (EC 3.4.11.2). Combining essential oils (EOs) with contrasting chemical profiles may result in biological effects that cannot be reliably predicted from the properties of the individual oils. Mixed chlorobromoanisoles have recently been recognized as new potential odorous compounds in tap water. The formation and repair of alkali-labile sites in the DNA of human cells treated with 254 nm u.v. light, 1'-acetoxyestragole (1'-AcO-E) or 1'-acetoxysafrole (1'-AcO-S) have been studied. BACKGROUND: Vascular dementia (VD) is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease. β-asarone, a major component of Acorus tatarinowii Schott, is important in neurodegenerative and neurovascular diseases.
