Long-term use of topical drugs can induce changes in the conjunctiva and ocular surface. To determine the conjunctival changes resulting from topical glaucoma medication, patients with glaucoma were selected and classified into seven groups, according to the medication received: 24 eyes were treated with betaxolol, 20 eyes with levobunolol, 32 eyes with timolol maleate, 22 eyes with pilocarpine, 52 eyes with beta-blocker and pilocarpine, 34 eyes with beta-blocker and dipivefrin, and 32 eyes with maximum therapy. This review summarises the safety of unoprostone isopropyl (both at the 0.12 and 0.15% concentrations) instilled twice daily in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or ocular hypertension (OH). For unoprostone 0.15%, combined data from two 12-month comparative monotherapy studies are reported, as well as data from three adjunctive therapy studies and two special population studies. BACKGROUND: Melanocytoma of the iris is a rare tumor which may sometimes undergo necrosis that could result in elevated intraocular pressure through pigment dispersion. Only nine similar patients have been previously reported.
METHODS: A 27-year-old woman presented with a dark brown iris stromal mass located between the 4 and 8 o'clock positions in the inferior quadrant. Her left visual acuity was 20/60. The tumor encroached on the lens and caused focal cataract. There was massive pigmented debris over the iridocorneal angle and the intraocular pressure was 42 mmHg.
