The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of laparoscopic cholecystectomy on platelet function. We operated on 40 women with symptomatic gallbladder stone, 20 of whom (study group) underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 20 of whom (control group) open cholecystectomy. Patients with a history of bleeding, abnormal platelet count, or systemic disorders and those who were on salicylates, heparin, or oral anticoagulants were excluded. Numerous studies have shown that coagulation abnormalities occur in the course of diabetes mellitus, resulting in a state of thrombophilia. These observations are supported by epidemiological studies which demonstrate that thromboembolic events are more likely to occur in diabetic patients. The coagulation abnormalities observed in diabetic patients seem to be caused by the hyperglycaemia, which also constitutes the distinguishing feature of this disease. These data are also supported by in vitro studies which demonstrate how glucose can directly determine alterations in the coagulation system

This manuscript reviews pathogenic variants in RASGRP2, which are the cause of a relatively new autosomal recessive and nonsyndromic inherited platelet function disorder, referred to as platelet-type bleeding disorder-18 (BDPLT18)(OMIM:615888). A simple assay system for measuring platelet retention in a standardized superficial skin wound is presented. Platelets were counted in the blood collected at the site of the wound 1, 2 and 3 minutes following incision. In this narrative review, we examine the association between gut dysbiosis, neuroinflammation, and stress-linked disorders, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and investigate whether tryptophan (TRP) metabolism and platelets play a role in this association. Advances in genomic testing and specialist laboratory assays have greatly increased the diagnostic armamentarium. Platelet function was investigated in four normal volunteers, one patient with a mild form of von Willebrand disease, and one with a thrombocytopathy, all taking propranolol. No effect on platelet function attributable to this drug could be demonstrated in any of these subjects. It is suggested that propranolol administered in conventional doses does not impair platelet hemostatic function.
