Supradiaphragmatic bronchogenic cyst extending into the retroperitoneum.

We experienced a case of bronchogenic cyst located on the left lower pleural space extending into the retroperitoneum in a 33-year-old man with left chest pain. Preoperative imaging studies and operative findings showed a broad-based cystic mass on the left lower posterior pleura and diaphragmatic pleura extending into the retroperitoneal region across the diaphragm. Histologic studies proved this mass to be a bronchogenic cyst.

Intrapericardial bronchogenic cyst overriding the pulmonary artery.

We describe a case of a 3-year-old child with an intrapericardial bronchogenic cyst arising from the pericardium overlying the pulmonary artery found incidentally at the time of elective repair of a sinus venosus atrial septal defect with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return. A cystic mass overriding the right pulmonary artery was resected and diagnostic studies revealed multiple loculated cysts lined by respiratory mucosa with cartilage and smooth muscle in the wall consistent with a bronchogenic cyst. The cyst was completely resected and postoperative recovery was uneventful.

Bronchogenic cyst in a German shepherd dog.

Intermittent episodes of fever, severe dyspnoea and cyanosis were observed in a two-and-a-half-year-old male German shepherd dog. The clinical signs were of sudden onset but disappeared within eight hours, in five almost identical episodes over a period of 40 days. Radiological examination of the thorax revealed a large rounded area of radiolucency surrounded by a thin radiopaque structure. The lesion increased in volume between examinations, but otherwise remained similar in appearance. It could not be confirmed from the radiographs whether the structure was situated in lung tissue or mediast

Isolate abdominal bronchogenic cyst: a case report.

Isolated abdominal bronchogenic cysts are rare abnormalities. They are usually asymptomatic unless secondarily infected or large enough to cause compression of other vital structures. The authors report on a 20-month-old girl who had an abdominal bronchogenic cyst and presented with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections. The evaluation and treatment of this patient is presented as well as a review of the ten previously reported cases. A literature review showed only four cases in the pediatric age group. Excision is recommended to establish diagnosis and alleviate any symptoms. Abdom

Pseudoadrenal mass: unusual presentation of bronchogenic cyst.

Isolated abdominal bronchogenic cysts are extremely rare. We report the fourth such case in an asymptomatic 4-year-old girl who initially presented for evaluation of urinary tract infection and new-onset urinary incontinence. Ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with an adrenal mass. At exploration, the patient was found to have a mass in the area of the gastroesophageal junction and a normal left adrenal gland. The final pathology confirmed the diagnosis of a bronchogenic cyst. Abdominal bronchogenic cysts, although rare, should be considere

Laparoscopic resection of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst clinically presenting like adrenal cyst.

Bronchogenic cyst that is localized to retroperitoneum is a rare clinical entity. It is a congenital malformation generally occuring in the posterior mediastinum due to abnormal development of the foregut. We report the case of a retroperitoneal cyst presented like left adrenal cyst. A 38 years old female was presented with left upper abdominal pain. Endocrinologic evaluation was done and no adrenal hormonal secretion was detected. The cyst was removed laparoscopically. It was confirmed in pathologic examination as a bronchogenic cyst. Bronchogenic cysts should be considered in the differentia

A Bronchogenic Cyst Masquerading as a Tongue Mass.

Bronchogenic cysts are foregut-derived developmental anomalies found along the developmental pathway of the foregut. The putative theory of pathogenesis is abnormal budding or branching of epithelial cells during the development of tracheobronchial tree. Over 99 % of cases occur in the mediastinum and lung while the head and neck area is affected in less than 1 % of cases with only rare cases reported in the oral cavity. This is a report of a case of a bronchogenic cyst arising in a 6-year-old male. The lesion presented as a painless swelling of the left underside of the tongue. Microscopicall

Cardiac tamponade as a complication of bronchogenic cyst.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare incidental findings, but they can have life-threatening complications. Herein, we report a case of a 44-year-old man who presented with complaints of left-sided chest pain, intermittent dyspnea, and pink-tinged sputum. Computed tomography angiography of the chest revealed a large cystic mediastinal mass in the subcarinal location. During his hospital stay, the patient became hypotensive with jugular venous distention and muffled heart sounds on auscultation. A stat echocardiogram depicted a large pericardial effusion with early diastolic collapse of the right ventri

A bronchogenic cyst of the larynx: A case report.

A 12-year-old female presented with a 2-month history of dyspnea and a progressively worsening hoarseness lasting >10 years. The subsequently identified mass was completely resected from the patient's supraglottic area using a laser and suspension laryngoscope. The mass was diagnosed as a bronchogenic cyst using histopathology. While the prognosis for these cysts is good, long-term follow-up remains necessary for such patients because there are several reports in the literature indicating the potential for malignancy to develop. The patient in the present study experienced no complications or

Pericarditis in a Child with an Intrapericardial Bronchogenic Cyst.

Background An intrapericardial bronchogenic cyst (IBC) is a rare congenital malformation seemingly asymptomatic in most subjects. Case Description A 9-year-old boy presented with persistent chest pain and fever. Imaging revealed a large pericardial effusion with a tumor located at the left atrial appendage extending behind the great vessels. Mass rupture with scattered mucoid debris was found intra-operatively. The tumor was excised and the IBC was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. A postcardiotomy syndrome occurred four weeks post-operative. It was treated conservatively. Since then, follow-

Esophageal bronchogenic cyst and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts are rare foregut abnormalities that arise from aberrant budding of the tracheobronchial tree early in embryological development. These cysts predominantly appear in the mediastinum, where they may compress nearby structures. Intra-abdominal bronchogenic cysts are rare. We report an intra-abdominal bronchogenic cyst that was excised laparoscopically. METHODS: A 40-year old female with a history of gastritis presented for evaluation of recurrent abdominal pain. A previous ultrasound showed cholelithiasis and a presumed portal cyst. Physical examination and laborat

[Bronchogenic cyst in the abdomen--a case report].

A man in his thirties with epigastric pain was referred to our hospital for detailed examinations. Abdominal computed tomography showed an abdominal cystic lesion with a longest dimension of 7 cm, located behind the stomach. Endoscopic ultrasonography through the stomach showed a cystic lesion and the wall of the lesion revealed continuity to the proper muscle layer of the gastric wall. Therefore, gastric duplication was suspected and the cystic lesion was resected because of the possibility of malignancy and also for a definitive diagnosis. The cystic lesion consisted of columnar ciliated epi

Bronchogenic cyst in a patient with difficult asthma.

Difficult to treat asthma is an asthma syndrome that brings in our mind other differentials. Mediastinal masses are not common findings, but are important variables. Bronchogenic cyst is a congenital anomaly of the foregut that is typically found in the mediastinum and diagnosed accidentally. We present a 4-year-old girl with allergic asthma that began at 8-months of age and finally a bronchogenic cyst was detected in this patient. The patient had history of asthma since she was eight months old. She had a history of several asthma attacks which had partly responded to asthma management. Durin

Mycobacterial infection of intraparenchymal bronchogenic cysts.

Bronchogenic cysts (BCs) may rarely cause some interesting and unusual complications. Although infection is a common complication of BCs, there are only two patients with BC infected with mycobacterium in English literature. Two intraparenchymal BCs infected with mycobacterium are presented here as unusual complications. Cystectomy was performed for the cysts. They were given antituberculosis treatment. No complication or recurrences were detected in follow up period.
