The calm before the storm? Burnout and compassion fatigue among undergraduate nursing students.

Studies have consistently highlighted the deleterious impact of burnout and compassion fatigue on professional nurses' well-being and willingness to remain in the profession. Yet, as to what extent these noxious conditions are suffered among nursing students is still unclear. In this study 436 undergraduate nursing students completed surveys assessing their experiences of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, lack of personal accomplishment, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion satisfaction (factors of burnout and compassion fatigue). There were no significant differences fou

[Burnout in students of health-care professions. Risk and protection factors].

BACKGROUND: The burnout syndrome affects more than half of students and professionals involved in healthcare worldwide and is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and a low perception of self-efficacy. Several studies indicate that when students are burnt-out, clinical work, professionalism and ethical behavior, as well as empathy, are negatively affected, while the risk of academic attrition, depression and suicidal ideation tend to increase. At a national level, recent information shows that one out of every two medical students suffer burnout at the beginning of the clin

Examining Contributors to Burnout and Well-Being in U.S. Forensic Psychiatrists.

Burnout and well being in forensic psychiatrists have been insufficiently examined, with most research focusing on vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, or posttraumatic stress disorder among forensic mental health professionals. Previous research in Canada from 2023 highlighted a high prevalence of burnout among forensic psychiatrists, particularly among early-career psychiatrists, those whose values were misaligned with their institution, and those who had a low perceived control over their workload. Building upon this, the current study provides an assessment of the U.S. workforce in forens

A network approach to parental burnout.

BACKGROUND: The use of network analyses in psychology has increasingly gained traction in the last few years. A network perspective views psychological constructs as dynamic systems of interacting elements. OBJECTIVE: We present the first study to apply network analyses to examine how the hallmark features of parental burnout - i.e., exhaustion related to the parental role, emotional distancing from children, and a sense of ineffectiveness in the parental role - interact with one another and with maladaptive behaviors related to the partner and the child(ren), when these variables are concept

Burnout in Oncology.

Burnout is defined as an occupational-related syndrome characterized by physical and emotional exhaustion, cynicism/depersonalization, and low sense of professional accomplishment. Multiple oncology-specific risk factors are associated with an increased susceptibility for the development of burnout. On a daily basis, oncologists are faced with life and death decisions and grieving much more frequently than are physicians in other specialties. Continuous exposure to fatal illnesses with limited success in curing them, exceedingly long work hours with more administrative time demands, limited au
