Caffeic acid phenethyl ester induced apoptosis in chronic myeloid leukemia cells by inhibiting mitochondrial complex I.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is an oncogenic hematologic disorder defined by the BCR-ABL1 fusion gene, which initiates pathological proliferation of myeloid lineage cells. While tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have substantially improved clinical outcomes, therapeutic resistance associated with the T315I mutation continues to present a significant obstacle. This research evaluates the efficacy of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), a bioactive natural product, in countering TKI resistance mediated by this specific genetic alteration. The investigation employed a comprehensive methodology

A functional cascading of lignin modification via repression of caffeic acid O-methyltransferase for bioproduction and anti-oxidation in rice.

INTRODUCTION: Crop straws provide substantial biomass resources that are transformable for sustainable biofuels and valuable bioproducts. However, the natural lignocellulose recalcitrance results in an expensive biomass process and secondary waste liberation. As lignin is a major recalcitrant factor, genetic engineering of lignin biosynthesis is increasingly being implemented in bioenergy crops, but much remains unclear about the desired lignocellulose alteration and resulting function. OBJECTIVES: This study attempted to explore the mechanisms of lignin modification responsible for efficient

Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester Alleviates Alcohol-Induced Inflammation Associated with Pancreatic Secretion and Gut Microbiota in Zebrafish.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is identified to be an efficacious bioactive polyphenol in propolis for ameliorating glucose and lipid metabolism disorders and inflammation. In this study, an alcohol-induced zebrafish inflammation model was established. CAPE treatments at different concentrations (0.04, 0.2, and 1.0 μg/mL) were administered to alcohol-exposed zebrafish to investigate the underlying mechanisms of alleviating alcohol-induced liver inflammation using transcriptomic analysis and 16S rRNA gene sequencing methods. The results indicated that CAPE decreased the expressions of TNF-

Novel antidepressant-like activity of caffeic Acid phenethyl ester is mediated by enhanced glucocorticoid receptor function in the hippocampus.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is an active component of propolis that has a variety of potential pharmacological effects. Although we previously demonstrated that propolis has antidepressant-like activity, the effect of CAPE on this activity remains unknown. The present study assessed whether treatment with CAPE (5, 10, and 20 µmol/kg for 21 days) has an antidepressant-like effect in mice subjected to chronic unpredictable stress via tail suspension (TST) and forced swim (FST) tests. CAPE administration induced behaviors consistent with an antidepressant effect, evidenced by decreased im

Modulation of phenytoin teratogenicity and embryonic covalent binding by acetylsalicylic acid, caffeic acid, and alpha-phenyl-N-t-butylnitrone: implications for bioactivation by prostaglandin synthetase.

Teratogenicity of the anticonvulsant drug phenytoin is thought to involve its bioactivation by cytochromes P-450 to a reactive arene oxide intermediate. We hypothesized that phenytoin also may be bioactivated to a teratogenic free radical intermediate by another enzymatic system, prostaglandin synthetase. To evaluate the teratogenic contribution of this latter pathway, an irreversible inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetase, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), 10 mg/kg intraperitoneally (ip), was administered to pregnant CD-1 mice at 9:00 AM on Gestational Days 12 and 13, 2 hr before phenytoin, 65 mg/kg
