Cotard's Syndrome is rare and no cases have been reported in pregnancy. We describe a case of a woman in the third trimester who attempted suicide by jumping out of a window, sustaining multiple fractures. Delivery of her baby by Caesarean section and orthopaedic intervention was necessary before electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) could be administered, resulting in a successful outcome for both mother and child. (Int J Psych Clin Pract 1999; 3: 293-295).

Laryngoceles are rare pathological air-filled dilatations of the laryngeal saccule. Rarely, laryngoceles can become infected and pus-filled, forming laryngopyoceles. If untreated, they can lead to life-threatening complications including airway obstruction and deep neck space sepsis. The generally accepted management of laryngopyoceles is surgical, but there are no consensus guidelines available. We present two cases of elderly patients (89- and 90-year-old) with laryngopyoceles who were successfully managed with endoscopic laryngeal surgery. Both presented with worsening airway symptoms on th

INTRODUCTION: Tropatepine is an antiparkinsonian drug that can be associated with antimuscarinic delirium in overdose. Two acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, neostigmine and physostigmine, are available for the management of tropatepine poisoning. The aim of this study is to describe a series of tropatepine poisonings and to compare the management of patients.
METHODS: This epidemiological, retrospective, multicentre study reviewed tropatepine intoxications reported to French poison centres from 1 January 2000 to 13 July 2023. The relationship between reduction in central antimuscarinic signs a

Splenosis refers to the heterotopic autotransplantation of splenic tissue to various anatomical sites, most commonly following splenic trauma or splenectomy. We report a rare case of pelvic splenosis in a female patient, eight years after a car accident and splenectomy, who presented with lower abdominal pain and infertility without improvement. Laparoscopic exploration revealed ectopic splenic tissue, and the diagnosis was confirmed by biopsy. Pelvic splenosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained pelvic or abdominal masses in patients with a history of splenic inj

BACKGROUND: Appendicitis is a common condition typically treated surgically via appendectomy. However, recently there has been increased interest in non-surgical treatment options, such as antibiotics, to avoid risks of surgical complications.
OBJECTIVE: This case report describes a non-surgical, Ayurvedic intervention for uncomplicated acute appendicitis (without perforation).
CASE PRESENTATION: A 25-year-old male was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with acute appendicitis. Initial management included a single dose of multiple intravenous medications, including antibiotics, an antiemetic

Japanese encephalitis virus infection manifests as acute encephalitis syndrome leading to significant neurological disability with estimated incidence around 85,000 cases per year and case fatality rate of 30%. Treatment remains largely conservative as there is no specific antiviral available till date. Clinical trials have failed to show the benefit of drugs studied, except minocycline which has some limited evidence. Preclinical studies and in silico analysis led to identification of various synthetic and natural compounds which could be potential therapies in the future. This article provid

INTRODUCTION: Hereditary leiomyomatosis with renal cell carcinoma (HLRCC) is a rare autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by cutaneous leiomyomas, uterine fibroids, and an increased risk of type2 renal cell carcinoma. It originates from germline mutations in the fumarate hydratase (FH) gene, which encodes the enzyme of the same name. Deficiency of this enzyme leads to the accumulation of fumarate, an oncogenic metabolite. We present the case of a 65-year-old man with multiple cutaneous leiomyomas detected in primary care. The aim is to analyze his diagnostic classification, highlight the u

BACKGROUND: Paraquat is a herbicide used for weed control and is one of the lethal poisons associated with high mortality. Exposure to this compound could be accidental or as a deliberate self-harm. Clinical manifestations can range from mild symptoms initially to multiorgan failure. Owing to high case fatality (50-90%) and no specific antidote is available; different treatment regimens are proposed with variable success rates. Here, we present two patients with paraquat poisoning, their initial presentation, clinical progress, and successful management.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening complication that can result in complete cardiovascular and respiratory collapse. Peri-operatively, this complication is most often seen after the intravenous (IV) induction of general anesthesia, and the most common responsible agents are non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents. In this report, we describe a case of perioperative anaphylaxis induced by the non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker rocuronium. Sugammadex, a reversal agent for the non-depolarizing muscle relaxants rocuronium and vecuronium, was administered shortly after induction.

Testicular tuberculosis is a rare form of genitourinary TB that often mimics conditions such as neoplasms or chronic epididymo-orchitis, making diagnosis challenging. We report a 60-year-old man with longstanding right testicular pain and swelling, no systemic symptoms, and a history of household TB exposure. Imaging showed a large hydrocele with suspected underlying pathology. Intraoperative findings revealed necrotic testicular tissue, prompting orchiectomy. Histopathology confirmed granulomatous inflammation with caseous necrosis consistent with TB. The patient began standard anti-tubercula

Lyme carditis, primarily caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, affects 1 to 10% of patients with untreated Lyme disease. This study reviewed 3 cases of Lyme carditis that presented to a tertiary hospital's emergency department in the northeastern United States during the summer months. The cases involved patients with varying degrees of atrioventricular (AV) block: first-degree, second-degree Type 2, and complete heart block. Case 1 involved a 19-y-old male presenting with syncope and diagnosed with first-degree AV block. He received intravenous (IV) ceftriaxone, resulting in resolution of the AV bl

Cryotherapy in vital pulp treatment is a procedure that involves the use of extreme cold temperatures to manage inflammation and promote healing in the dental pulp tissue. It has shown potential in preserving pulp vitality and reducing post-operative discomfort in procedures such as partial and full pulpotomy. Vital pulp therapy (VPT) aims to preserve the vitality and function of the dental pulp. With the proper diagnosis, technique, and materials, it can effectively treat moderately inflamed pulp and minimize the need for more invasive procedures. This article presents a case of vital pulp cr

INTRODUCTION: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is prevalent in about 1 in 1000 people. A 39-year-old female diagnosed with HT was having unsuccessful symptom resolution with conventional thyroxine (T4) replacement therapy. In 60 days, there was a remarkable reduction of thyroid antibodies (Ab), improvement of thyroid hormones, and cardiometabolic biomarkers following a Paleolithic diet (PD).
CASE DESCRIPTION: A patient unable to lose weight or alleviate gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms after maintaining clinical thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels through conventional T4 medication

BACKGROUND: Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) is a genetically determined myocardial atrophy which progressively extends from the epicardium towards the endocardium, resulting in wall thinning. It is one of the leading causes of sudden death in young people. Postmortem studies demonstrate that up to 70-80% of the cases have biventricular involvement. Variable penetrance and expressivity results in a wide phenotypic spectrum, challenging diagnostic accuracy of advanced multimodality imaging tools. Prompt recognition, non-invasive imaging, risk stratification for sudden cardiac death (SCD), an

BACKGROUND: Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a congenital malformation affecting the central nervous system, categorized as a neural tube defect (NTDs). In untreated cases, the mortality rate within the first six months of life ranges from 35% to 70%. Globally, its incidence is estimated 0.8 to 1 per 1000 live births, and rates are higher in Asia and lower socioeconomic groups. This disease imposes a significant treatment cost and burden due to life-long disabilities. In less developed or developing countries, delays in diagnosis can lead to complications such as infection and rupture. Although ruptu

Hepatic pregnancy, an exceedingly rare subtype of abdominal ectopic pregnancy, remains clinically challenging due to its infrequency, diverse presentations, and diagnostic difficulties. We report the clinical course, diagnostic journey and treatment of a woman with a primary hepatic pregnancy. The patient presented with acute pain in the right hypochondrium and vomiting. Imaging revealed a peripheral hypodense gestational sac within the right hepatic lobe containing a fetus with heart pulsations, as well as peritoneal fluid and pelvic collection. Following administration of mifepristone, the p

Gingival fenestration is a relatively uncommon soft tissue lesion in which the root apex is exposed in the oral environment after the destruction of the overlying buccal bone plate and mucosa. At present, no clear etiology or treatment guidelines exist for gingival fenestration. This article reports three successfully treated cases of gingival fenestration associated with chronic periapical infection and can help contribute to treatment guidelines for gingival fenestration. All cases were treated with apicoectomy in conjunction with a connective tissue graft (CTG), and the first steps of each
