The frequencies of chromosome aberrations induced by different doses of X-rays were determined in both splenocytes and primary lung fibroblasts of Chinese hamster by bi-colour FISH using a combination of four chromosome-specific DNA libraries. Cervical smears with Papanicolaou's staining (PAP) reveal only morphological characteristics of epithelial cells of the cervix uteri. In the present study, genotoxic effect of methyl tert butyl ether MTBE was analyzed by measuring chromosomal aberrations (CAs) in bone marrow cells of rats. Rats administered MTBE orally at 800, 1600mg/kg/day in corn oil for 14 and 28 consecutive days. Control rats received injection of distilled water. As a part of studies on physiological factors that affect radiosensitivity, we examined the in vitro effect of estradiol (E2) on the yield of radiation-induced chromosome aberrations in human peripheral lymphocytes. Lymphocytes were cultured for 3 days in the medium containing E2 at 0-100,000 ng/ml. Clonal karyotypic alterations of chromosome 6 in three uterine smooth muscle tumors are reported. In all cases an apparently identical breakpoint on the short arm of chromosome 6 was found. Two cases displayed the histologic features of cell-rich myomas with severe nuclear atypia but no clear evidence for malignancy. The remaining case was a primary uterine leiomyosarcoma of an 80-year-old patient showing an apparently balanced reciprocal chromosomal translocation, t(1;6)(p32-33;p21.3), as the sole karyotypic abnormality. This type of aberration has not been reported before in leiomyosarcomas.

Five tenosynovial giant cell tumors--4 pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) and 1 nodular tenosynovitis (NTS)--were investigated cytogenetically. Clonal chromosome aberrations were detected in 3 of them. Cytogenetic analysis was performed on peripheral blood and on a skin infiltration from a patient with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. The blood cells revealed no chromosome abnormalities; whereas, besides normal cells, the skin lesion yielded on aberrant clone with the following abnormalities: trisomies 8 and 17, a deletion of the short arm of chromosome 11, and formation of one marker chromosome with possible involvement of chromosome #14.

Human blood has been irradiated with alpha-particles from an external source of curium-242. The collimated alpha-particles entered the blood with an energy of 4-9 MeV and were almost completely absorbed by the blood. After culturing for 48 hours, the dicentric yield in the lymphocytes at the first metaphase was measured as a function of dose to the blood. Ventriculomegaly is considered to be linked to abnormal neurodevelopment outcome. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the current applications of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) in foetuses with ventriculomegaly.
