Medicinal plants used to treat "African" diseases by the local communities of Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri District, Western Uganda.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: In Africa, traditional medicine encompasses a diverse range of practices, including herbalism and spiritualism, where some diseases are believed to be "African" since they can only be traditionally treated. Indigenous knowledge on the management of "African" diseases using medicinal plants is still handed down orally from generation to generation by tribal societies of tropical Africa, and with the rapid westernization of these societies there is a pressing need to record local knowledge before it is lost forever. AIM: This study documented medicinal plant spec

Rehabilitation for the management of knee osteoarthritis using comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine in community health centers: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: It is becoming increasingly necessary for community health centers to make rehabilitation services available to patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. However, for a number of reasons, including a lack of expertise, the small size of community health centers and the availability of only simple medical equipment, conventional rehabilitation therapy has not been widely used in China. Consequently, most patients with knee osteoarthritis seek treatment in high-grade hospitals. However, many patients cannot manage the techniques that they were taught in the hospital. Methods such as

Guidelines for the management of community-acquired pneumonia in adults. Italian Society of Pneumology. Italian Society of Respiratory Medicine. Italian Society of Chemotherapy.

In general practice Community-acquired Pneumonia (CAP) is most often treated on an empyrical basis. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to know the epidemiology of respiratory pathogens in order to give some guidelines for the empirical management of CAP. At present in cases of mild and moderate severity, ampicillin or amoxycillin, preferably in association with sulbactam and clavulanic acid respectively, and macrolides are the antibiotics of first choice. The latter can be an alternative to beta-lactams when Legionella, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia are the suspected etiologic agents or when

Efficacy of antimalarial herbal medicines used by communities in malaria affected regions globally: a protocol for systematic review and evidence and gap map.

INTRODUCTION: With the rising resistance to artemisinin-based combination treatments, there is a need to hasten the discovery and development of newer antimalarial agents. Herbal medicines are key for the development of novel drugs. Currently, herbal medicine usage in communities for treatment of malaria symptoms is common as an alternative to conventional (modern) antimalarial agents. However, the efficacy and safety of most of the herbal medicines has not yet been established. Therefore, this systematic review and evidence gap map (EGM) is intended to collate and map the available evidence,

Influence of salt-tolerant medicinal herbs on soil geochemistry, nutrient cycling, and microbial communities in saline-alkali ecosystems of inner Mongolia.

Soil salinization poses a major threat to global food security and ecosystem stability. Phytoremediation using salt-tolerant, economically important plants offers a sustainable strategy for restoring degraded soils. This study evaluated the remediation potential of licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and sour jujube (Ziziphus jujuba) in saline-alkaline soils of Inner Mongolia, China. Field experiments compared bare land with soils planted for one and two years. Two-year plantations significantly reduced soil pH (from 9.3 to 8.5-8.8) and electrical conductivity (from 128 to 67-74 μS/cm). Soil organic
