Rhabdomyolysis is a life-threatening condition caused by skeletal muscle damage with acute kidney injury being the main complication dramatically worsening the prognosis. Raji and Daudi cells were opsonized with C3b, iC3b, and C3d fragments by using purified complement components. The sensitivity of C3-opsonized cells to lysis mediated by low density blood lymphocytes was studied. We studied complement (C') involvement in paediatric coeliac disease (CD) and dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) in relation to lesions and function of enteric mucosa and to diet. Since four years, it has been possible to classify most cases of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) as given to the expansion of abnormal B-lymphocytes. On the contrary, the T-cell class is apparently normal and the T cell extent in CLL-peripheral blood can be even greater than normal when taken as absolute value. Immunoperoxidase techniques were used to obtain information about the possible presence of serum factors in senile plaques. We found only in plaques consisting of an amyloid core surrounded by a corona of degenerating neurites small amounts of IgG and light chains (kappa and lambda). The present investigation shows that C3 (hemolytic inactive) as well as C3b and C3d bind Raji, a CR2-positive Burkitt lymphoma-derived cell line. Pretreatment of the cells with OKB-7 inhibited the binding of C3, whereas pretreatment with HB-5 inhibited the binding of C3b. Furthermore, the cells coated either with OKB-7 or HB-5 bound high amounts of C3d. TPA-treated cells showed binding for C3b and weak binding for C3 and C3d. Taken together, the data suggest that Raji cells may express three binding sites for C3, C3b and C3d which can be differently modulated by anti-CR2 MoAbs and TPA.
