PURPOSE: To describe the use of an equine compression suit to manage a deep axillary wound in a Thoroughbred filly with bilateral pneumothorax.
CASE SUMMARY: A 2-year-old Thoroughbred filly was referred for management of a deep wound to the left axilla. Packing and bandaging of the area were initially attempted, but this became repeatedly dislodged, and bandaging was discontinued. The filly subsequently developed widespread subcutaneous emphysema, and the wound was slow to granulate. Acute onset respiratory distress occurred 11 days after admission, secondary to bilateral worsening pneumothor

OBJECTIVE: To investigate macro- and microperfusion during 14 days of treatment with a new 2-layer compression system (3M™ Coban™ 2 Lite), designed for patients with leg ulcer and concomitant peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
METHODS: A single-centre, open-label, prospective pilot study was performed with 15 subjects suffering from peripheral arterial occlusive disease with an ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) of 0.5-0.8, who volunteered to have their 'study leg' bandaged with the new system. Coincident leg ulcer or chronic venous disease was not mandatory. All subjects received the n

Lower limb edema with its accompanying subjective ailments has been increasingly frequent in gravid women and in the postpartum period. The management is essentially non-interventional based on compression therapy (CT) with physical exercise adapted to the severity of venous disease and edema. A case of lower limb edema in a woman in the thirty third week of pregnancy was described. CT including compressive bandaging (CB) by short-stretch bandage and compression garments (CG) with physical activity was applied. Edema volume reduction, changes in consistency from hard to mild in palpation and r

The management of chronic oedema often consists of a programme of compression bandaging to reduce swelling and improve skin changes and limb shape, followed by patient self-care management in compression hosiery. Occasionally, patients experience rebound swelling and require further episodes of bandaging. In such cases, a thorough assessment of the causes of the rebound swelling should be carried out so that they can be eliminated. By evidencing three case studies, this article demonstrates that Haddenham Custom Goldpunkt garments can be useful in preventing rebound swelling, making it a cost-

OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), when used in combination with compression bandaging, for healing chronic resistant venous ulcers.
METHOD: In this pilot study, seven patients (with a total of 12 chronic resistant venous ulcers) received adjunctive NPWT and compression bandaging for 4 weeks. Their wounds were monitored for a total of 12 weeks.
RESULTS: Dormant ulcers were seen to rapidly develop into healthy wounds, with a granulating base.
CONCLUSION: This regimen may have a role in stimulating chronic venous ulcers into healing wounds, or in p

BACKGROUND: Venous ulcers are a major health problem because of their high prevalence and associated high cost of care. Compression therapy is the most widely used treatment for this condition. The vast majority of published articles on compression therapy present the results in the treatment of venous ulcers usually up to 15 to 20 cm(2). However, there are no published data in English medical literature on the efficacy of compression therapy in the treatment of extensive venous ulcers (ulcers >20 cm(2) of more than 6 months' duration) with regard to healing rate, time to healing, and recurren

BACKGROUND: Complete decongestive therapy is the standard treatment for lymphedema. Manual lymphatic drainage and short-stretch multilayer compression bandaging are two daily stages of complete decongestive therapy during which physiotherapists work with patients.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the risks of musculoskeletal disorders to which physiotherapists are exposed during these two phases.
METHOD: Five physiotherapists performed five 20 min manual lymphatic drainages, followed by the compression bandaging phase. From the video recordings, 8477 postures defined by 13 join

BACKGROUND: Erosive pustular dermatosis of the leg (EPDL) has been described in association with venous insufficiency and atrophy of the skin of the lower leg. Like erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp, this disease has also been reported to be a non-infective condition.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the clinicopathological features and, where possible, the aetiology of clinical EPDL.
METHODS: We identified a group of patients undergoing continuous compression bandaging for venous dermatitis of the legs and/or predominantly venous leg ulceration with clinical features described in patients

A prospective randomized investigation comprised 119 patients with ankle sprains, treated by the application of a layer bandage or elastic adhesive tape bandage. In addition, the patients received drug treatment as a double blind test: placebo, or oxyphenbutazone 100 mg or clonixin 300 mg three times daily. The drug study comprised 106 patients. Clinical examination and measurements of foot volume were carried out initially and 5-7 days after injury. The patients were asked to complete a follow-up questionnaire describing their symptoms and walking ability. No statistically significant differe

The standard treatment of a pinna haematoma involves drainage and compression to prevent recurrence and subsequent disfigurement. Compressive methods can be non-invasive or invasive, utilising a head bandage or through and through sutures, respectively, to keep compression in place. Leonard buttons are effective alternative compressive devices. They are simple to use and easily available.

Objective: We aimed to study venous leg ulcer (VLU) healing and recurrence rates of VLU using a self-care-based treatment strategy. Methods: The study included 36 patients (43 legs) who visited our clinic between April 2009 and June 2015 because of non-healing VLUs and who had been treated by us for more than a year (until June 2016). Patients or their caregivers were first provided instructions for performing the "no-intentional-stretch" bandaging technique using ordinary elastic bandages. Wounds were cleansed with tepid water daily, and bandages were re-applied by patients or their caregiver

INTRODUCTION: Compression is integral to the management of edema and the prevention of venous leg ulcers (VLUs).
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to assess the sub-bandage pressure distribution under 3 compression applications as well as to assess the impact of an innovative primary wound dressing, applied under the compression products, on pressure distribution.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A series of controlled tests were performed using a simulated leg model (SLM). A pressure mapping sensor and system software was used to measure the interface pressure (IP) and pressure distribution created

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) has a significant socioeconomic impact. The existent venous hypertension and the subsequent capillary hypertension result in trophic skin damage culminating in an ulcer. Venous ulcers affect 1-3% of the adult population. Compression therapy provides the basis for noninvasive treatment of CVI. It can be applied alone or in combination with invasive strategies. A variety of materials are available for phlebological compression therapy in the form of compression bandages and compression hosiery. Knowledge of the different qualities of the compression materials a

BACKGROUND: Seroma formation is a common postoperative complication of breast cancer surgery, leading to delayed wound healing, infection, patient discomfort, and repeated outpatient visits. In severe cases, it can cause skin flap necrosis, imposing physical, psychological, and financial burdens on patients. Applying compression bandaging to the patient's postoperative wound with a chest strap is an effective measure to prevent seroma formation. However, the commonly used elastic chest straps cannot provide specific compression values, limiting their use. Therefore, we aim to compare the effic

Study of the literature on the prevention of deep vein thrombosis shows the inefficacy of calf bandaging in the ambulation phase. Since thrombosis starts soon after or during operation, prophylactic measures are successful only if performed from the beginning of hospitalization. Orthostatic disturbances are not a general problem in the mobilization phase, as is shown in a study on 20 patients after myocardial infarction or heart surgery in whom leg compression did not influence circulatory regulation. In chronic venous or lymphatic insufficiency, however, compression therapy is of proven value

Twenty-six patients with leg ulcers with a mean age of 80 years were assessed at a day hospital to determine the aetiology and to carry out a trial of four-layer compression bandaging for those suitable. Ten had ankle brachial pressure indices (ABIs) < 0.8. Of nine patients with venous disease who received compression bandaging, only two ulcers healed and have remained healed with fitted below-knee elastic stockings. The remaining patients were unable to tolerate compression or developed deterioration of their ulcers. Nine patients had unhealing arterial ulcers all unsuitable for reconstructiv

Initial and sustained (7-h) impacts of foot-to-knee compression bandaging on leg arterial pulsatile blood flow were assessed by nuclear magnetic resonance flowmetry in eight healthy supine subjects. A widely used bandaging method (zinc impregnated gauze + Coban) and a slight variant (Coban only) were applied one week apart to one leg. Blood flow was measured on each day of bandage application before and after bandaging and after 7 h of normal activity. Initial mean sub-bandage pressures (lateral gaiter) were between 28.4 and 28.9 mmHg but were significantly reduced after 7 h to 16.3-19.4 mmHg.

This case report presents a 54-year-old Parkinson´s disease patient who underwent a DBS implantation to the subthalamic nuclei bilaterally. Shortly after the operation, the subcutaneous pocket of the generator filled with a liquid. Repeated aspirations did not show any bacterial contamination, and an infection was not found. In the sample, a beta-trace protein was detected that proved the presence of cerebrospinal fluid. A lumbar drain was immediately placed, and a chest compression bandage was fastened for 7 days. After removing the lumbar drain and the compression bandage, no additional liqu
