Injuries and illness to the ears, nose, and throat are frequently seen in the emergency department. The emergency medicine physician must be proficient in recognizing these injuries and their associated complications and be able to provide appropriate management. This article discusses the most common otorrhinolaringologic procedures in which emergency physicians must be proficient for rapid intervention to preserve function and avoid complications. A description of each procedure is discussed, as well as the indications, contraindications, equipment, technique and potential complications.

The use of inferior vena cava filters remains a valuable solution for patients with venous thromboembolism who have contraindications to anticoagulation therapy. Some of the most common complications associated with these devices include malposition or migration. In the present case report, we have described the case of a patient who had presented with an unretrievable, malpositioned filter with struts perforating her duodenum, aorta, and vertebral body. She subsequently underwent a two-surgeon endovascular procedure with complete extrication of the filter struts.

Approximately 5% of percutaneous pulmonary valve implantations (PPVIs) are at risk for coronary compression. Therefore, PPVI is contraindicated if coronary anomalies and tested coronary flow impairment are observed. The article presents the use of laparoscopic interventions in 38 patients with Acute Adhesive Small Bowel Obstruction (AASBO) in patients without previous history of abdominal surgery. Clinical, radiological and ultrasound patterns of disease are analyzed. The use of laparoscopy has proved itself the most effective and relatively safe diagnostic procedure. In 14 (36.8%) patients convertion to laparotomy was made due to contraindications for laparoscopy. In 24 (63.2%) patients laparosopic adhesyolisis was performed and AASBO subsequently treated with complications rate of 4.2%.
