Ano-cutaneous fistula associated with Bardet-Biedl syndrome in an African child.

An ano-cutaneous fistula associated with a Bardet-Biedl syndrome in a 12-year old African boy is described. The patient presented with mental retardation, obesity, syndactyly, polydactyly, retinitis pigmentosa and hypogenitalism. Past history revealed that he had an imperforated anus with anocutaneous fistula at birth, which was repaired successfully. The the best of our knowledge, it is the first case described in the African literature.

The maintenance of total ventilatory requirements through a chronic bronchopleural cutaneous fistula.

In patient with a chronic post-tuberculous bronchopleural cutaneous fistula (BPCF), minute ventilation, dead space, flow rates, arterial blood gas tensions, and oxygen consumption were measured during mouth breathing and after 30 min of steady-state breathing solely through the BPCF. Despite a 390-ml (18%) decrease in dead space when breathing took place through the BPCF, there were no significant changes in minute ventilation or respiratory rate. BPCF breathing was also associated with an increase in airways resistance as reflected by a 300-ml (35%) decrease in the FEV1 and a 16% decrease in

Chronic cutaneous chest wall fistula and gallstone empyema due to retained gallstones.

We report a case of a 72-year-old man who presented with a persistent pleural effusion and painful abscess in the right lower chest wall 6 months following a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The patient subsequently developed a chronic cutaneous chest wall fistula requiring a large resection and complex closure. The complication was likely secondary to intraoperative spillage of gallstones. While previous reports describe gallstone spillage in the abdominal cavity as benign, this case illustrates that stones left in the abdominal cavity can potentially lead to significant morbidity. Therefore, st

Surgical Management of a Rare Complication of Mastoidectomy: A Retroauricular Cutaneous-Mastoid Fistula.

Our goal was to describe a case of a rare complication that developed as a result of multiple surgical interventions over the years due to chronic mastoiditis - specifically, a pathological connection between a retroauricular skin defect and the mastoid cavity - and its surgical management. Based on subjective and objective findings, a surgical intervention was planned, including radical cavity obliteration and closure of the cutaneous-mastoid fistula using the temporomastoid periosteum. The surgery was successfully completed, resulting in improved hearing and the elimination of the infectious

Utero-Cutaneous Fistula in Ruminants: Characterization of the First Cases in Ewes and Cows.

Reports on UCF in animals are still lacking in veterinary literature. Detailed clinical signs, laboratory findings, and follow-up information from the first cases of UCF in two ewes and two cows are provided. The cases occurred over a 12-year period. All ruminants presented a fistulous tract or perforated wound on the right ventral abdomen, emitting a foul-smelling secretion possibly associated with macerated fetal parts or placental remains. Laboratory findings included anemia, leukocytosis by neutrophilia, and hyperfibrinogenemia in one ewe, and hyperfibrinogenemia in one cow. Ovariohysterec

Uretero-Cutaneous Fistula and Renal Abscessation as a Complication of Ureteral Stenting in a Dog.

An 11 yr old female spayed shih tzu was referred for treatment of left ureterolithiasis with complete obstruction of the left ureter and pyonephrosis. A ureteral stent was placed surgically to relieve the obstruction and pyonephrosis was treated with antibiotics. Three and a half years following stent placement, the patient developed an abscess on the left flank with chronic purulent discharge. Diagnostic imaging confirmed the presence of a left uretero-cutaneous fistula and renal abscess. A left ureteronephrectomy was performed. The dog was euthanatized 4 mo later for cardiac insufficiency un

Hydatid Disease of the Liver Presenting as Spontaneous Cutaneous Fistula: A case report.

Hydatid cyst (HC) disease is a parasitic infection produced by cysts containing the Echinococcus granulosus larval phase. Patients with HC disease are typically asymptomatic until incidentally diagnosed or when complications occur. A rare presentation of liver HC is spontaneous cutaneous fistualisation. We report a 63-year-old female patient admitted in a tertiary care hospital in Ibb, Yemen, in 2019 with an infected cutaneous fistula induced by a ruptured HC. The patient underwent laparotomy and partial cystectomy with excision of the fistula tract. Upon 6-month follow-up, there was no HC rec

Urinary-cutaneous Fistulae Following Conservative Management of Extraperitoneal Bladder Ruptures.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate our experience with urinary-cutaneous fistulae (UCFs) in patients following conservative management of extraperitoneal bladder ruptures (EBRs) caused by blunt trauma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with blunt-trauma related EBR who underwent primary management with urethral catheter drainage alone from 2000 to 2015 were identified in our institutional trauma registry. The demographics, the hospital courses, and the outcomes of patients who developed UCF were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 96 patients with EBR were identified, of which 56 (58%) were managed with urethra

Appendiceal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma with implantation metastasis to the incision scar and cutaneous fistula.

INTRODUCTION: Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix with invasion of the anterior abdominal wall and cutaneous fistula development is a rare condition. To the best of the authors' knowledge, five such cases have been reported in the medical literature. METHODS AND RESULTS: The patient was a 68-year-old man who presented with a mass growing through the incisional scar and a skin fistula with mucinous discharge 1 year after appendectomy via McBurney's incision. Carcinoembroyonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 concentration was elevated. Abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a

[Perineal approach to repair rectal and cutaneous fistulas involving the urethra and bladder].

The perineal approach was used in ten patients for the repair of fistulas involving the bladder or prostatic urethra. In the case of radiotherapy-induced (n=2) or recurrent fistulas (n=4) fecal diversion and interposition of the gracilis muscle was performed. In addition in three patients prostatectomy was performed. All fistulas were repaired successfully with minimal morbidity.

[Reno-colonic and reno-cutaneous fistula in calculous pyonephrosis. Apropos of a case].

The authors present a case of reno-colonic and renocutaneous fistula in a patient with calculous pyonephrosis. The diagnosis was established by retrograde pyelography as the IVP showed no contrast excretion by the right kidney. Surgical treatment consisted of nephrectomy, colonic fistula excision and suture of the colonic wall without a diversion operation.

[Cutaneous-pericardial fistula and purulent pericarditis secondary to a complicated pericardiocentesis: Case report].

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous-pericardial fistulas are rare, with only isolated case reports related to infectious complications. We present here a complicated case of a patient who developed a cutaneous-pericardial fistula with secondary purulent pericarditis. We also include a review of the 15 reported cases of cutaneous-pericardial fistula in the literature. CLINICAL CASE: A 44-year-old man diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma presenting with cardiac tamponade underwent pericardiocentesis with placement of an indwelling drainage catheter. Six weeks after catheter removal, he developed a cutaneous-p

Dural Arteriovenous Fistula Treated with Transvenous Embolization via the Upper Limb Cutaneous Vein.

OBJECTIVE: In recent years, the transradial artery approach has gained prominence and is increasingly employed in neurovascular angiography and therapy due to its safety, reduced complications, and minimal invasiveness. While various venous approaches, including the conventional transfemoral vein approach, exist for procedures such as transvenous embolization, recent reports have highlighted methods involving upper extremity cutaneous veins. However, the practicality and efficacy of these approaches remain unclear. CASE PRESENTATIONS: This study presents our experience with three cases of dur
