Cystodistension versus cystoscopy in patients with refractory detrusor overactivity: a randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Cystodistension may be offered as a treatment for patients with refractory overactive bladder. The reported efficacy is based on a number of case series. This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of cystodistension in a randomized trial. METHODS: This was a randomized study comparing cystoscopy combined with cystodistension with cystoscopy alone. The primary outcome was improvement in the Urgency Perception Scale (UPS) score. Symptoms were assessed using the ICIQ Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ-FLUTS). Quality of life was assessed using the Urinar

Surgical treatment of an acquired posterior urethral diverticulum with cystoscopy assisted robotic technique.

A 42-year-old man with a history of recurrent urethral stenosis, recurrent urinary tract infection and macroscopic hematuria has referred to our clinic. He underwent several internal urethrotomies and currently using clean intermittent self-catheterization. During the internal urethrotomy, we noted a large posterior urethral diverticulum (UD) between verumontanum and bladder neck. His obstructive symptoms were resolved after the catheter removal. But perineal discomfort, urgency and dysuria were prolonged about 3-4 weeks. Urinalysis and urine culture confirmed recurrent urinary tract infection

Suprapubically assisted operative cystoscopy in the management of intravesical TVT synthetic mesh segments.

The tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) sling has become one of the most common procedures performed for the treatment of female stress incontinence. Perforations of the bladder during the TVT placement are relatively common, but are usually noted on cystoscopy and corrected at the time of the procedure. Undetected perforation may result in several complications including recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder stone formation, and pelvic pain. A novel technique is described using operative cystoscopy with suprapubic assistance, which provides an effective means for resection of intravesical m

Indications and Outcomes of Fetal Cystoscopy for Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction: A Comprehensive Review.

Fetal lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) encompasses a spectrum of rare congenital anomalies affecting the fetal urinary system, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. This condition, arising from various anatomical anomalies such as posterior urethral valves (PUV), urethral atresia, and cloacal malformations, disrupts normal urine flow, resulting in secondary complications such as pulmonary hypoplasia and renal impairment. Current management strategies, including fetal vesicoamniotic shunting (VAS) and fetal cystoscopy, aim to alleviate obstruction and mitigate associated risks.

The potential role of preoperative cystoscopy for determining the depth of invasion in the placenta accreta spectrum.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to determine the role of preoperative cystoscopy in specifying the degree of placental invasion to the bladder in the placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), especially in percreta. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective observational cohort study included 78 PAS patients. All included patients underwent the preoperative cystoscopy before the cesarean hysterectomy operation. The preoperative cystoscopy procedure identified markers of PAS as neovascularization, arterial pulsatility in neovascularized zones, and posterior bladder wall bulging. Then the patients were divided

Use of 50% Dextrose as the Distension Medium During Cystoscopy for Visualization of Ureteric Jets.

BACKGROUND: Indigotindisulfonate sodium has been used to color the urine and thereby improve the visualization of ureteric jets during intraoperative cystoscopy. After indigotindisulfonate sodium became unavailable, there has been an ongoing search for an alternate agent to improve visualization of the jets. METHOD: We used 50% dextrose, which is more viscous than urine, as the distension medium during cystoscopy so that the ureteric efflux is seen as a jet of contrasting viscosity. We instilled 100 mL of 50% dextrose into the bladder through an indwelling catheter, which is then removed and

Prevention of hypertensive crises in patients with high spinal lesions during cystoscopy and lithotripsy.

Three patients with high spinal lesions, admitted to the hospital for cystoscopy and lithotripsy, showed signs of severe hypertension due to mass reflex during this operation. This symptom was controlled with an intravenous drip of Arfonade¿, and the patients felt quite comfortable without any other anaesthesia. Other possibilities for handling such patients are discussed.

Flexible cystoscopy-guided realignment of traumatic urethral disruption in pelvic fracture: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic fractures from high-energy trauma are frequently complicated by urethral injury. The World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) recommend retrograde urethrogram as the first-line diagnostic test for suspected urethral disruption, performed prior to any catheterization attempt. When urethral injury is confirmed, the American Urological Association advises suprapubic tube placement as the preferred initial management to avoid exacerbating injury, with endoscopic or fluoroscopic techniques reserved for select cases in

Comparative analysis of surgical prognostic between HIC and NHIC patients after cystoscopy with hydrodistention.

This study aims to clarify the pathogenic mechanism of interstitial cystitis (IC), which has led to uncertainty in its diagnosis and treatment. We examined data from 18 interstitial cystitis with Hunner lesions (HIC) and 18 interstitial cystitis without Hunner lesions (NHIC) patients, including their clinical information, urodynamic test results, and maximum bladder capacity. A 1-year follow-up tracked disease progression. Postoperative recovery showed that HIC patients experienced significantly greater improvements in Visual Analog Scale pain scores compared to NHIC patients (P = .0049). This
