BACKGROUND: No effective therapies exist to prevent degeneration from Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease. Therapies integrating music and/or dance are promising as effective, non-pharmacological options to mitigate cognitive decline.
OBJECTIVE: To deepen our understanding of individuals' relationships (i.e., histories, experiences and attitudes) with music and dance that are not often incorporated into music- and dance-based therapeutic design, yet may affect therapeutic outcomes.
METHODS: Eleven older adults with MCI and five of their care partners/ spouses participated

Among the treasures of Chinese art, ethnic dance is an important part. As a key form of expression of national art and emotion, dance has strong regional and gender characteristics for those affected by different ethnic groups and regions. The unique characteristics of the region are the driving force for the masses of all ethnic groups in China to continuously promote the prosperity and development of ethnic and folk dances living alone in different living conditions and living environments. In the analysis of ethnic and folk dances, environmental elements have a profound impact on the rapid

INTRODUCTION: The rapid expansion of telehealth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, accelerated the development of technology-mediated movement interventions to support physical and psychological health. Among these, tele-dance interventions (TDI) emerged as accessible and scalable models of care; however, a comprehensive synthesis of the evidence supporting these interventions remains limited. This scoping review maps existing literature on the feasibility, acceptability, and health-related outcomes of TDI across diverse populations.
METHODS: Guided by Arksey and O'Malley's framework

BACKGROUND: Commercial dancers work in live shows, films and other venues. They perform many dance genres and undergo substantial physical demands. This occupational community sustains many injuries but may not seek or have access to specialized medical services.
AIMS: To determine, in a sample of dancers in the commercial dance industry, the prevalence of musculoskeletal dance-related injuries, the dancers' accessibility to medical consultation and the dancers' healthcare-seeking tendencies over 5 years.
METHODS: An electronic questionnaire was distributed to commercial dancers via a commer

Honeybee foragers explore the environment before they start foraging, following dances, or performing dances. Foragers are therefore familiar with the landscape surrounding the hive during their foraging career. Here, we ask whether dance-recruited honeybees expect the landscape features that the dancer experienced during its outbound foraging flights. If this were the case, the dance-recruited honeybees would behave differently according to whether the landscape features they experienced during their outbound flight matched the expected features. In our experiments, the dance followers (recru

Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, an obligatory intracellular bacterial pathogen. Like other intracellular pathogens, C. burnetii is able to survive and reproduce within host cells by manipulating host cellular processes. In particular, the relationship between C. burnetii infection and host autophagy, a cellular process involved in degradation and recycling, is of great interest due to its intricate nature. Studies have shown that autophagy can recognize and target intracellular pathogens such as Legionella and Salmonella for degradation, limiting their replication an

BACKGROUND: Dance teachers (DTs) give lessons on various professional and amateur genres. Up to the present, little has been known on health-related behavior regarding the consumption of substances such as inhalant and synthetic substances, cocaine, cannabis/marijuana (c/m), anabolic steroids and naturally occurring hallucinogens in dance teachers.
RELEVANCE: To analyze the consumption of these substances as well as to determine influencing variables due to their role model function (educational level, prevalence of injuries, BMI and income).
METHODS: N = 236 (m: n = 53, f: n = 183) professi

The neuronal processes underlying dance observation have been the focus of an increasing number of brain imaging studies over the past decade. However, the existing literature mainly dealt with effects of motor and visual expertise, whereas the neural and cognitive mechanisms that underlie the interpretation of dance choreographies remained unexplored. Hence, much attention has been given to the action observation network (AON) whereas the role of other potentially relevant neuro-cognitive mechanisms such as mentalizing (theory of mind) or language (narrative comprehension) in dance understand

Horizontal gene transfer is an important mechanism for generating genetic diversity. As the number of sequenced genomes continues to increase, so do the examples of horizontal genetic exchange between both related and divergent organisms. Here we discuss the recent finding that certain strains of the human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae have incorporated a small fragment of human DNA sequence into their genomes. The horizontally acquired sequence exhibits 98-100% nucleotide identity to a 685 bp portion of the highly repetitive retrotransposable element L1 and its presence in the gonococcal gen

We investigated the gay dance party phenomenon in Sydney in terms of its social and historical context by carrying out 16 qualitative interviews with patrons and organisers of these events. Sydney with a population of 3.5 million is both the capital of New South Wales and the Gay capital of Australia. The gay dance party appears to be a response to a number of conditions which co-existed in the mid 1980s, as previously suggested by Wotherspoon (1991). These included the decriminalization of homosexuality and enactment of the anti-discrimination legislation which set the scene for greater expre

In brief: In this study shoes, floor types, and individual physical differences were evaluated for their effects on aerobic dance injuries. The injury frequency was 75.9% for instructors and 43.3% for students. The shin was the most common site of injury in both groups. Overall, 60% of the injuries in the student group and 52% of injuries in the instructor group occurred below the knee. Most injuries were not debilitating, and few required medical treatment. The authors concluded that resilient but stable floor surfaces, proper shoes, and moderating the frequency of participation can prevent i
