Marginal bone loss, whether it is physiological or pathological, is one of the implant treatment complications. The biomechanical consequences of marginal bone loss could be catastrophic particularly when the abutment screw is at supraosseous level. This study aimed at investigating marginal bone loss influence on the biomechanics of single implant crown using finite element (FE) analysis. Four FE models for a 3.5 × 13 mm implant supported by 4 bone levels (8.5 mm, 10 mm, 11.5 mm, and 13 mm) were subjected to 3 loading conditions: vertical, oblique, and horizontal. The results indicated 5-10 t

BACKGROUND: Polymerisation shrinkage is a critical limitation of dental composites and may contribute to microleakage, postoperative pain, tooth fracture, and secondary caries. It has been shown that curing methods play a significant role in polymerisation shrinkage of light-cured dental resins. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a LED curing light on microleakage as well as microhardness of a dental composite.
METHOD: For the microleakage test 32 Class V cavities were prepared in human premolars, conditioned with 35% phosphoric acid and treated with the bonding agent

Eighty extracted, noncarious premolars were restored with one of 20 different combinations of restorative materials: a high- or low-copper amalgam, unlined or lined with one of five bases, and varnished or unvarnished. The teeth were aged in 1% NaCl and after 3 months and 1 year the seal material deposited on the cut tooth cavity surface and the surface of the amalgam restoration was analyzed by use of energy dispersive x-ray analysis. Atomic weight percentages of marginal seal elements were statistically examined with ANOVA and Tukey's test with significance set at p < 0.05. The results indic

The field of periodontology has changed dramatically during the past 30 years. The goal of periodontal therapy is not only to establish and maintain the dentition and the periodontium free of any oral infections, but also to provide an environment with optimal function and esthetics. Esthetics has become an integral portion of the overall treatment goal in periodontics. This article discusses the role of periodontal plastic and reconstructive surgery in treatment planning the anterior esthetic zone in interdisciplinary dental care.

OBJECTIVES: Dental caries is common in children's occlusal pits and fissures. Pit and fissure sealants prevent caries by blocking biofilm formation. This study compares the effectiveness of two modern sealants, Embrace WetBond (Pulpdent) and DenteShield (Elevate OralCare), over 16 months. Embrace WetBond is moisture-tolerant, whereas DenteShield contains organoselenium that inhibits bacterial growth, particularly Streptococcus mutans. Clinical performance was evaluated using Modified Ryge-United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Criteria.
