Liquid phytase as a complete substitute for supplemental inorganic phosphorus in plant-based diets for commercially farmed Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

This research project addressed the effect of commercial, liquid phytase (Ronozyme®HiPhos- 20,000 FYT g- 1) (dsm-firmenich, Switzerland), produced by Aspergillus niger, on growth performance, economic return, enzymatic activities, and immune defense in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) raised in a commercial tilapia farm. Adult, all-male fish, weighing 75.28 ± 0.66 g on average, were housed in triplicate in 2-m3 hapas, placed in an earthen fishpond, at a density of 40 fish hapa- 1. The fish were offered a basal commercial, extruded (floating) tilapia diet (3 mm diameter, 30% CP and 18.6 MJ

A Novel Plant-Based Nutraceutical Combined with Exercise Can Revert Oxidative Status in Plasma and Liver in a Diet-Induced-Obesity Animal Model.

The prevalence of obesity increases alarmingly every year mostly due to external factors such as high-fat and high-refined sugar intake associated with a sedentary lifestyle. It triggers metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance, hyperlipemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut microbiota dysbiosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the beneficial effects of a combined intervention with caloric restriction, nutraceutical intake, and a mixed training protocol on oxidative stress, inflammation, and gut dysbiosis derived from the developmen

Association of healthy plant-based diet-lifestyle score with obesity-related cancer incidence and mortality: a prospective cohort study in the UK Biobank.

BACKGROUND: Evidence regarding the combined influence of healthy plant-based dietary patterns and lifestyle behaviours on obesity-related cancer outcomes remains limited. We prospectively investigated the associations of the healthy plant-based diet-lifestyle (hPDI-Lifestyle) score with obesity-related cancer incidence and mortality in the UK Biobank. METHODS: Among 104,713 eligible participants, 93,763 were included in the primary complete-case analyses. The hPDI-Lifestyle score integrated healthy plant-based dietary quality, physical activity, smoking status, and sleep duration. Restricted

Impact of TOTUM-63, a fibre and polyphenol rich plant-based composition, on gut and pancreatic hormone secretion in diet-induced obese mice.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: TOTUM-63, a fibre and polyphenol rich plant-based composition, has been demonstrated to significantly improve body weight and glucose homeostasis in animal models of obesity. Our study aimed at exploring whether the mechanisms include modulation of gut (glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP), glucagon-like petide-1 (GLP-1), cholecystokinin (CCK), peptide YY (PYY)) and pancreatic (insulin, glucagon) hormones, all important regulators of glucose control, appetite and body weight. METHODS AND RESULTS: Male C57BL/6JRJ mice were assigned to either standard chow (CON),

Time-course of mRNA abundance of appetite-regulatory genes in the brain of rainbow trout fed a plant-based diet from the first feeding.

The early developmental stages of fish are critical for improving feeding strategies and growth performance. Understanding feeding-regulatory mechanisms from the earliest stages of development is crucial, especially in the context of aquaculture, where early nutrition has a significant impact on feeding behaviour, growth and survival. This is particularly relevant in carnivorous species, such as rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), where the complete replacement of fishmeal and fish oil with plant-based ingredients has negative effects on growth performance and early stage survival. This study

Nutritional status, hyperkalaemia and attainment of energy/protein intake targets in haemodialysis patients following plant-based diets: a longitudinal cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Patients undergoing haemodialysis (HD) are often discouraged from eating fruits and vegetables because of fears of hyperkalaemia and undernutrition, yet evidence to support these claims is scarce. We here explore the association between adherence to a healthy plant-based diet with serum potassium, surrogates of nutritional status and attainment of energy/protein intake targets in HD patients. METHODS: We performed an observational single-centre study of stable patients undergoing HD with repeated dietary assessment every 3 months. Patients were provided with personalized nutrition

Exploring the Link Between Plant-Based Diets and Resting Metabolic Rate in Women With Overweight and Obesity: Implications for Weight Management and Metabolic Health.

Obesity is a global health issue linked to increased risks of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. A reduced resting metabolic rate contributes to obesity. Plant-based diets are often recommended for weight control, but their effect on resting metabolic rate is underexplored. This study assesses the association between plant-based dietary patterns and resting metabolic rate in women with overweight and obesity. In this cross-sectional study, 285 women with overweight and obesity were selected from health centers in Tehran. Body composition was measured using bioelectrical impedance ana

Plant-Based vs. Omnivore diets for athletic performance outcomes among recreational athletes in university dining halls: a randomized crossover study.

BACKGROUND: Some research suggests that transitioning from an omnivorous to a plant-based diet does not significantly change athletic performance for endurance or resistance athletes, implying comparability to animal-based diets for athletic goals. However, there is a relative paucity of these studies and widespread social media misinformation suggesting insufficient calorie, protein, and micronutrient intake of plant-based diets to meet the demands of athletic performance. This multi-site study, conducted in collaboration with the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative (MCURC), inv
