Challenges and adaptations to public involvement with marginalised groups during the COVID-19 pandemic: commentary with illustrative case studies in the context of patient safety research.

Patient and public involvement (PPI) is integral to research on patient safety in the NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Translational Research Centre (NIHR GMPSTRC), and is central to our patient safety research within our theme focusing on people in marginalised groups. Due to the impact of COVID-19, researchers had to adapt how they do PPI. For marginalised groups, remote working and digital adaptations (the key adaptations made in accessing and utilising health services in the United Kingdom during COVID-19) can potentially lead to further marginalisation of people already marginalised

Federated multimodal AI for precision-equitable diabetes care.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) constitutes a rapidly expanding global epidemic whose societal burden is amplified by deep-rooted health inequities. Socio-economic disadvantage, minority ethnicity, low health literacy, and limited access to nutritious food or timely care disproportionately expose under-insured populations to earlier onset, poorer glycaemic control, and higher rates of cardiovascular, renal, and neurocognitive complications. Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a transformative counterforce, capable of mitigating these disparities across the entire care continuum. Early

Understanding Inequalities in Mobile Health Utilization Across Phases: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mobile health (mHealth) holds promise for enhancing patient care, yet attrition in its use remains a major barrier. Low retention rates limit its potential impact, while barriers to accessing or adopting mHealth vary across populations and countries. These differences in utilization of mHealth may exacerbate health inequalities, contributing to the digital health divide. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the factors associated with inequalities in mHealth utilization across different implementation phases, including access, adoptio

Co-Design of a Digital Health Tool for Use by Individuals With Opioid Use Disorder: App4Independence (A4i-O).

BACKGROUND: Opioid use disorder (OUD) has arguably the highest mortality rate of mental health conditions; opiate-related deaths are identified as the number one cause of accidental deaths in Canada and the United States. Specialized care for OUD is often described as lacking, fractured, and with frequent periods of disengagement. Digital health strategies may support connection to evidence-based resources even during periods of disengagement. However, sustained engagement in digital interventions remains a barrier, and as such, experts recommend using co-design approaches to develop intervent

Immunohistochemical comparative study of fibrosis and biliary ductular reaction in alcoholic and viral chronic hepatitis.

Our study includes 102 cases of liver biopsy previously diagnosed with chronic alcoholic hepatitis and also B and C viral hepatitis. In these cases, we analyzed the extension of fibrosis with two different methods. First, we evaluated fibrosis with the subjective Knodell score; secondly, we used digital image analysis to achieve this. We also used immunohistochemical methods to mark those cells positive at Smooth Muscle Actin (SMA) and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP). We have observed that the extension of fibrosis was most predominant in cases with B viral chronic hepatitis, while the

Televisits for Parkinson's disease: benefits and barriers.

Televisits are a valuable tool for Parkinson's disease (PD) follow-up; however, their implementation is hindered by a fragmented evidence base. This narrative review synthesizes 41 articles (31 observational, 10 comparative) spanning three decades, categorizing findings into three domains: feasibility, clinical outcomes, and efficiency. Results indicate high feasibility with visit completion frequently exceeding 70% and high user satisfaction primarily due to reduced travel burden and costs. Clinical outcomes appear comparable to in-person care, yet evidence on efficiency remains inconclusive.

Key implementation factors in telemedicine-delivered medications for opioid use disorder: a scoping review informed by normalisation process theory.

Telemedicine could improve access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Telemedicine-delivered MOUD (TMOUD) has expanded substantially in response to the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic on in-person clinical contact, yet this expansion has not happened consistently across all health systems and countries. This Review aims to understand key factors in TMOUD implementation that might explain variations in uptake. We did a scoping review using three English language databases for articles reporting on the implementation of TMOUD services. 57 peer-reviewed articles were iden

The use of latissimus dorsi muscle flap in the aesthetical reconstruction of heat-press injury of the hand.

We present a successful case of aesthetic reconstruction utilizing free latissimus dorsi muscle flap transfer. A large quantity of skin of the dorsum of hand and finger was lost. The dorsum of the index, long and ring fingers was severely damaged, such that extensor tendons were necrotic and all digital bones and the second metatarsal bone were exposed with partial necrosis. In addition, the proximal interphalangeal joints (PIP) were also exposed. To cover exposed bones and the tendons of dorsum of the hand, a free latissimus dorsi muscle flap was transferred, and then meshed skin covered the

Aneurysm of a branch of the subclavian artery with multiple arteriovenous fistulae.

A rare case is reported of an 83-year-old woman with an aneurysm of a branch of the subclavian artery with multiple arteriovenous fistulae. The patient was admitted to our hospital with a pulsatile mass in the supraclavicular space and a prominent continuous murmur which radiated to the anterior chest, right forearm and right neck. She first noticed a pulsatile 2 cm mass in 1972, 1 year following a subtotal gastrectomy. At that time, she had intravenous therapy through a right neck vein. In 1993, the mass became larger, and she developed a shunt murmur. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) de

A Review on Micro-Watts All-Digital Frequency Synthesizers.

This paper reviews recent developments in highly integrated all-digital frequency synthesizers suitable to deploy in low-power internet-of-things (IoT) applications. This review sets low power consumption as a key criterion for exploring the all-digital frequency synthesizer implemented in CMOS fabrication technology. The alignment with mainstream CMOS technology offers high-density, comprehensive, robust signal processing capability, making it very suitable for all-digital phase-locked loops to harvest that capacity, and it becomes inevitable. This review includes various divider-less low-pow
